Extreme Veteran 459 | Subject: RE: Ironman Arizona : Official Thread Officially started training last week. I'm a basket case. I hate to admit but its true. Got a new bike, it's beautiful BUT I suck riding it. I've only been outside on it once - so being more than a little impatient right? Its like I'm starting over in that respect. Its not like I can't do it - I know I can. I'm feeling like a big chicken. I'm telling everyone about it cuz in a way it makes me feel better. I'm hoping it will pass. UGH |

What a coincidence I went from a Centurion (Dave Scott Ironman) to a Jamis (xenith comp) too! I love it. Haven't officially started my IM training yet, still concentrating on Oceanside 70.3, but I'm looking around for coaches so I'll probably be starting soon. |

Master 2238 Dallas | Subject: RE: Ironman Arizona : Official Thread So, how's the training going folks? I actually dropped a bit before going full blast so I can spend time with the family before the serious training begins. Question to the ones that have done the race before: is it imperative that I log in century rides before the race? Can I replace them with very high intensity, shorter workouts? I can't seem to find six hours put together that I can commit to riding. |

I officially have a schedule starting on 4/1 with primary focus on cycling while preparing for Steelhead and the Great Illini Challenge. This is my first IM, but for me--with cycling being my weakest event--I'm going to have multiple centuries to prepare myself. In past training seasons I've been in the camp of train by time and make each minute count rather than focus on distance. |

I can't seem to find six hours put together that I can commit to riding. Right now my training is focused on New Orleans 70.3 and then IMKY in August. I'm trying not to even THINK about IMAZ, yet I would try to get at least one 6-hour ride in during training. Being in the saddle for 6 hours rather than 4 is a huge difference on your body and your mind.

Regular 106 SF Bay Area, California | Subject: RE: Ironman Arizona : Official Thread Hi, Partly due to the stories of training and racing here on BT, I was inspired to signup for IMAZ. I'm already getting nervous. I think it is probably time to start making some travel arrangements and I wonder where is the most convenient place to stay during race week? I will be arriving Thursday and will be followed by wife and kids Friday night or Saturday afternoon. Any hotel recommendations? Is anything in walking distance to the start, besides the host hotel? I heard there is a Embassy Suites nearby, how would that work? Thanks for any and all advice! |

If you can, you want to put in some long rides getting used to being in that position for several hours. Third loop, I could only stayin aero for a few minutes before coming up on the pads. |

Master 2411 Goodyear, AZ | Subject: RE: Ironman Arizona : Official Thread I'm starting to build the bike and swim, still taking it EZ on the run after having ITBS this winter but I'm up to 3 runs per week and will keep it at that until later in the summer. I'm planning some Splash n' dash OWS races this April, then an Ironman OWS swim race in may (wont be a "race" for me- just survival!). I'm having a hard time with the rest of my race schdule this year. Ideally I would like to do another HIM before IMAZ. I cant get to Wildflower then I miss the local HIM race in June here because I am on vacation (5 week trip to the UK). That leaves Mtn Man in July, only 3 weeks after I get back from being in Europe, it's a tough course at elevation and I will not be able to ride much in June while I am overseas. I will probably end up doing the SOMA HIM in Tempe in October as a training day What does everyone else's race schedule look like??? Train well folks! |

Master 2238 Dallas | Subject: RE: Ironman Arizona : Official Thread I'm not doing any HIM's this year, only one sprint and four Oly's before November. Actually I've never done a half IM. Am I being too ambitious? I'm starting to have some serious doubts about being able to finish such an endeavour. I completed marathons, and I can do the swim easily but the bike is a challenge for me and putting all three together seems a bit too much. Thoughts, anyone? |

It shopuld be a good training day! Is anyone out there doing the Janus Challenge for IMAZ?? I am. While looking for a house to rent in AZ, I was came acrossed an inspiring story. The owner of the house that we are renting lost their 1 month old baby Liam due to 4 heart defects this past Feb. I just happened to contact him regarding the house on the day Liam died. At that time I thought wow...horrible timing on my part. Later the owner emailed me the contract for our rental along with a link that told of Liam's story. Please read Liam's story below. I am doing IMAZ in honor of Liam and the American Heart Association. I'd love all of us to race in Liam's honor that day and be a part of Team LoveIAM! That is a really inspirational story. Unfortunately one of my good friends passed this week unexpectedly. He died while running on a treadmill and his autopsy results are still unknown. I expect it to be heart related and I plan on doing something similar, but also for the same charity. What has been your experience with Janus? Easy to set up etc? |

Extreme Veteran 710 Wilmington, NC | Subject: RE: Ironman Arizona : Official Thread Janus was very easy to set up. You just got the link and register. However, you do need to get in touch with a contact person for the organization or charity in which you are going to raise money for... It's definately given my Ironman journey a whole new meaning! |

Veteran 349 Ironman Arizona via Surf City, USA | Subject: RE: Ironman Arizona : Official Thread well.. 223 days and counting... Hope those that are training are doing well.. I'm happy so far with my base-building phase of training as I have dropped 6 pounds to this point.. Hoping that race day goal weight of 135 is reachable. I think it will be with the bigger training schedule still ahead; I am about 8 pounds away.. Other than a brain fart moment with my new Dura-Ace pedals and bigger cleats today, that resulted with me hitting the pavement, I should be just GREAT! Got a nice red ring in the fleshy part of my hip, remnants of landing on my MP3 player.. Didn't break so happy about that.. Just a dumb moment of indecision.. Scratches on my bike give it character now.... Lori |

If you have family and friends going it's a great idea. It's more comfortable than being in a hotel plus it always works out to be cheaper! Good luck! Leanne |
