This is how pissed off I am at this race because of how it ruined me last year: I'm doing it one week after doing my first Ironman out at St George, UT. I owe this race a screw in return, and darn it, I'm gonna do it (at least that's the plan).

Thanks, but I'm not going to accept that title until I have my revenge and finish GC. But I'll take that as encouragement!

I am in the race as the swim leg of a relay team, but would like to do the bike leg as well.  Anyone looking for a biker or want to form another team and commit to doing the run leg?  The rules allow you to compete on more than one relay, so thought I would give it a shot.

Well I hope you have all the daylight that is available for the next three weeks.  You will get your endurance back quicker than you think.

Last year, before one of the sprints that I do during the summer, a brown recluse spider got me on my leg and put me out of commission for 6 weeks.  It sucked because I worked hard on my sprint training only to lay up on the couch with a hole in my leg for 6 weeks.

Ready here too!   I am not going to be very fast, but it sure feels good to be fairly fit and confident that I am ready to finish a nice steady 1/2 for the first time in quite a few years. Amazing what a few consistent months of training will do. I'm really excited about the race!

I'm pretty excited to.  I did this race last year and was no where close to the shape that I am in now.  Hope to run into some of you guys in a couple of weeks.  I plan on getting in PC on Thursday afternoon.

I'm signed up and quite excited, having trained diligently for this race ever since the beginning of the year.  It'll be my first full Gulf Coast since 2004 (I've participated in two relays since then).  If it's wetsuit-legal and if I can avoid falling apart in the last hour of the run, I'm hoping to beat my 2003 time, which would make it my fastest half-iron since my first one in 1991, also at Gulf Coast, when I was a young lad of 42. Laughing

If it turns out to be non-wetsuit-legal, I'll probably be a few minutes slower than that.  Here's hoping that everyone in Florida will generously travel to PCB and dump a tray of ice cubes into the water off the Boardwalk during the week leading up to May 8!  Smile

I'm back.  I've only done one Tri since my HIM at the end of last summer, and that was a sprint last weekend.  I've been concentrating on running.   I'm just doing the swimming part of Gulf Coast this year, which is funny because that is my weakest leg. Laughing  Good luck everyone, and have fun.

VolFan - Where do you swim?  I've probably seen you at frank brown.

P.S.  The wind hasn't calmed down yet.  I hope for you bikers sake, it goes down in the next week. Smile

Keep us posted on the weather and shark attacks! That really helps knowing what we will be facing. I checked last year's results and they were pretty strong. Tri-ghost and I will hopefully be picking up packets then swimming Thursday before getting some grub and brau.

Well I am still coming but I will only do the swima ndbike.  I'll DNF and it will be my own private aquabike................too many injuries and walking 13.1 miles is NOT going to help me be healthy for IMFL

I hear ya Socks totally. Tri-ghost and I were discussing the same thing yesterday. But my foot may allow me to run/walk which is fine as long as I adjust my expectations. If its hurting I'll just turn in my chip after the bike, which I will make into a 56mi TT!

I considered walking the run but to what end?  It is NOT going to help me recover in any way shape or form.  Right now my major goal needs to be to get to the start line of IMFL as uninjured as possible.  I'm willing to sacrifice the other races for that.  I pulled out of another HIM I had scheduled.  Its just not worth it

I think you made a smart decision Socks. If running on it bothers it then walking 13.1 on it certainly won't help it heal. Hope it clears up quickly so you can move on with your IM training.  Nothing bad about a good swim/bike brick!

Hey Gulf Coasters. I am thinking about signing up for this race last minute and I was going to do it today. Im doing IMFL in November and I just wanted to be familiar with the coarse.  Has anyone heard anything about the recent oil spill in the Gulf and how it may affect the race or if it will affect the race? Im sure race directors always lean tword the safer side of things and they might not want over 1000 racers subject to swimming in oil....... Another concern of mine is IMFL. This oil spill is so big that they said it could take months to clean up.      http://www.foxnews.com/us/2010/04/26/crews-race-contain-oil-spill-rig-blast/

There must be a contagious foot thing going around -

I've got an issue, came out of nowhere, and running currently not possible - I can barely walk upright.

Swimming - Ok
Bike - Not sure but did 10mins pain free on spincycle.

Am debating whether it's worth the trip for an aquabike..Maybe the three of us would qualify for our own results category?

Better still if we can just heal up before next week. Good luck.

There is no oil here in Panama City Beach.  I don't think it is supposed to get way over here.

My concern is this weekend it is suppose to be real bad weather 8-10 swells and it is suppose to move the oil around a bunch. With that and the race still over a week away Im thinking it may have potential to make it over to PCB. It is not going to be anywhere as of now because this just happened but in 9 days with moving water who knows. I emailed to race website guy and ill pass on any info i get.

I also have a foot/ankle problem. Ive been wearing a brace since Feb. Just did a race without it to try and save some time in T2 and im paying for it now. Im going to try GC but definatly wear the brace. Then Rest it

This is the response email I received. I also asked when registration closed so I can sign up for the race pending the situation. Looks like I might just wait till last minute.

Hi,

We are keeping an eye on the situation and if it becomes a serious problem we will act accordingly.

We will not be closing our race, so you will be able to register on Thursday or Friday before the race on Saturday.
