haha, sorry... right now I'm in Wichita Falls, TX, but my permanent home is in Bellevue, NE.
I'll be in TX until 21 May, aka most of the training time...
Where are you in NE?

webgirlck - 2010-02-19 8:00 AM I am glad to see that I am not the only nervous one!  I am feeling better now.  My coach put out my March schedule and it is getting more intense as far as workouts so that will definitely help the confidence.

I thought about doing the training day but that just seems way to far to drive for a 1/2 day of training.  I guess I will just do the same workouts but here in the hills of Colorado!  I hope everyone who does go has a great time

Hey if you are a Colorado type, you should join us on the long Saturday rides.

I am a Colorado type, where do you have your long Saturday rides?

Whew Go Texas! even if it is Witchita Falls. haha I am in the Dallas area. There are plenty of good country roads out in your area to ride...unfortunately most of it will be riding in shoulders which can be kind of sketchy. good luck with that!

Whoa. This thread was slipping too far down the page.
There is officially less than 3 months left until the race. How we doin' with the training?

I'm in the midst of nice recovery week, but I've been skipping a few a lot of swim workouts. I have a strong swimming background, but I think I've skipped too many, but not enough to make me worried. Anybody care to reinforce my own thoughts that I'll be ok come race day?

Happy training, the weather in the Midwest is looking better.

You sould be fine but then again, I have never done this distance...a little worried about it actually!!  Training is going well...3rd week into it.  I did a pool session this morning, have a bike at noon then long run tomorrow.  This is a hard week for me, then recovery week next week.......good thing because I will be at NCAA Wrestling tournament next week, so I will have plenty of beverages to work off when I get home!!!

Currently, planning on the clinic. Definitely will do the ride; will probably run one of the two-lap run course...just to get a feel for it.

87 days to go!

I am doing pretty well with the training but since this is the first time I am doing this distance I am still nervous!  I am struggling with fatigue right now but I think it is because of my nutrition.  I don't think I am fueling properly for the increased training.  Oh well, just more things to work through!

I hope everyone is having a great time with the training!

I'm planning on doing the clinic and the bike ride, but not the run on the 17th.  I think I'm the only one on this thread planning on doing the 1/2 Marathon the next day.  Super excited about doing this race.

I was flying Sacramento to Jefferson City last week and flew right over Clinton Lake.  It looked COLD! The ice on parts of it were the first clue.

Does anybody know how camping spots get assigned after you have signed up for them with active.com?  First come first served?

Also how early do you need to get there to get a good bike spot?  And what is a good bike spot...I've only done one tri before and put my bike where I found a space.

Thanks

You will receive an email with a camping map at some point and ask if you have any preferences of being next to another camper ... etc., they will try and accomodate requests, but there are no promises.  You will then be informed of your designated spot and that is your spot for the weekend.

All bike spots are assigned by bib number, so no need to worry about getting there early for a good spot as you won't have a choice anyway.

Are there any deals for hotels during training weekend?  My friend who lives a couple miles from Clinton Lake isn't going to be in town and I was looking for a cheap (but nice) place to stay.

Should be a ton of options in Lawrence since its a college town.  There are ample Motel 6, Days Inn, Hampton Inns, Super 8's all over Lawrence.

Does anyone know if this race sells out?  I registered last year, got injured, and couldn't race.  I want to do it again this year, but don't quite have the cash yet.  What do you think?

I don't know if it sells out...but I personally wouldn't take the risk. Just wait til you have the cash and do it. I had to re-up my USAT membership and register all in one sitting. that $300 definitely set me back so i feel the pain...

I can tell you from experience, at this stage in the game, your options are very, very limited. There are basically about 3-4 hotels with any availability left. I was able to book a Super 8 last week, pretty cheap ($70/night). There is actually a couple of hotels there that are requiring a 2 night stay. I live in Wichita, so I'm just driving up on Sat morning and checking out Sunday.

Good luck.

Also, to pull another thread in here...

I received my free K-Swiss shoes in the fed-ex/UPS box yesterday. At first, I thought they were pretty butt ugly, but they have actually grown on me. I normally run in a stability shoe (Brooks Adrenaline/Infinity/Ravenna) while the K Swiss is considered a Performace Stability shoe. I can say they are super light compared to my Brooks pair(s), and overall, they fell great on the feet...If they're good enough for Matt Reed and Chris Leito (as well as others), they should be good enough for me.

coredump and I are in!!!!!!!!

I was planning to come down to Kansas to cheer for you all anyway, but figured I'd sign up and do the race. Just ran a half marathon last weekend, so the running is coming along. Had my first outdoor bike ride today... and I've been swimming most of the winter... While I won't set any speed records, I sure do think we will have fun! Laughing

We are planning to camp. We should probably get that together soon, huh?

See you all out there!

Yaaaay! I need to reserve a campsite as well. Wonder if we can request to be near each other? That would be mighty fun.

Are you referring to race weekend or training weekend?  I'm camping during race weekend, I was just wondering about the training weekend.  If there aren't any hotels, I can look somewhere close like Topeka or something.
