There is a link to Ironmanstore.com but it only has a couple t-shirts. |

Darned useful information in this thread and I want to wish everyone racing next Aug. a lot of luck with their training. Looks like race logistics are still being worked out, but I think it's going to go perfectly. |

I'm considering HITS, REV 3 Quassy, Patriot, and Syracuse as possibilities, but haven't decided for sure yet. |

Member 23 Williamstown, South Jersey | Subject: RE: Ironman U.S. Championship : Official Thread Just registered for HITS Hunter, should be a good test with the elevation changes. Works out for the training plan I am using as well. Used "Be Iron Fit" intermediate for IM PCB this year and will use it again next year. Considering working with someone to modify the running a bit (add more). |

Pro 4353 Wallingford, PA | Subject: RE: Ironman U.S. Championship : Official Thread So.... Just curious what kind of training you all are doing right now. I suspect no one has started REAL IM training at this point. My goal until I start following a more structured plan (which will probably start sometime around February - I need to nail down which plan I'm going to use...) is to work on general bike and run fitness and swim at least a little bit.... I'm trying to follow the Barry P running plan, working my way back up to the 40-45 mpw range and doing Jorge's winter cycling program to the extent I can. I teach spinning a couple days per week, and while I can occasionally modify Jorge's workout for a spin class setting, I can't do it every week... What's everyone else up to? |

Master 1989 New Jersey | Subject: RE: Ironman U.S. Championship : Official Thread Well, i'm recovering from an Achilles tear, so no running yet, but I'm getting close - have been given the ok to do the eliptical so I'll do that when I'm scheduled for a run. I'm more or less starting to follow the structured week that I'll be following during the actual training, but just keeping effort easy and nothing over an hour at a time. Doing about 7 hrs/week. I'll be following Be Iron Fit, but I'm tweaking it a bit, so I'm also experimenting now on how to do that - how to add in strength training, yoga, moving the long run, etc. Be Iron Fit plan starts in January, so I'm building to that starting level. Of course, when I start the plan, 45 mins of run may mean 45 mins of walk/jog/eliptical for me. Jsnow...you're running 40-45mpw??? That seems like alot - even during the heavy parts of IM training. Do you plan to keep that amount during your training? |

Do you plan to keep that amount during your training? Well - - I'm more like 30-35 mpw right now, but would like to build back up. I'll have to see how it shakes out when I start adding in longer bike and swim training. I do better with high volume/frequency running (mostly easy effort). Whether I'll be able to maintain that kind of running volume throughout remains to be seen.... |

I am toying with the idea of moving the long run to Saturday and bike on Sunday. Did some research on the benefits of doing long runs on fresh legs rather then the day after the long bike. May forgo the weekly Wednesday Brick and insert a hard bike or run set or cross train. I will ramp up the mileage on the long runs. I was surprised that I only had about 750 running miles. I was really satisfied with the plan training by HR and time only, made it really easy to stick to. I'll stay with the Intermediate Plan again. |

I suspect no one has started REAL IM training at this point. After taking a full month after my last race of the season, I've gotten onto the structure of my plan for next season, although the durations are going to be down for a while. For CDA last year, I followed IronFit intermediate, but substituted Jorge's winter cycling plan for the two shorter bikes each week for the first 20 weeks. This year, I'm combining what I like best about a variety of programs I've looked at. For running, doing the BarryP plan from ST with six runs a week in the 3-2-1 format and totalling 30MPW, with the long run being longer every other week once I get further along For bike, I'm rotating through what I found to be the most effective interval series from Jorge's program, plus a long ride that will slowly increase. Swimming, I'm focusing only on technique until the first of the year, then will probably follow the swim workouts for triathletes book. If I decide to do Leadman on May 19, I'll need to push the distance up a ways in Feb/Mar/Apr, otherwise I will wait a bit. |

Sounds like you and I are following a similar "plan" for now - Barry P + Jorge + some swimming.... I'm curious what you found to be the "most effective interval series" from Jorge's plan? This is my first year following it, and I can't really follow it exactly, so I'd love to hear your thoughts on which workouts are most effective, especially for IM prep. |

I feel your pain runnerx. Last year, September, I had a full rupture of my left achilles. Right into surgery, right into rehab, and just a bit over 7 months later I was able to complete IM Australia. Stick to your plan and you'll be fine. I can still smell the floor of the gym when I hit the ground after the pop and I immediately counted 7 months and just started wondering. You've got plenty of time just follow your Doc's plan. Good luck. |

But, in a way, it's also caused it to be an on-going nuisance for the last year. I've been up and down a few times - it got better, only to get worse. So, naturally I'm a little leery of pushing things. But thanks for the pep talk...I am following doc's orders. Edited by runnerx 2011-11-16 10:55 AM |
