Master 1970 Somewhere on the Tennessee River | Subject: RE: Mad Manatees Mentor Group - VERY CLOSED!!! Sorry! TriAya - 2012-12-23 11:25 AM MadMathemagician - 2012-12-24 12:19 AM I am the MadMathemagician. My given name is Michael. I ran track in high school and was a sprinter. I swam on a club team also. I swam D1 in college. Majored in Math and Physics. Toted a rifle in far away places for a while. Finished a terminal degree and completed another BA, in English Literature and creative writing, just to balance the science and math side. I'm 54 and single; never married and don't have children. Looked after my mother until she passed away in 2004. Currently looking after my dad until such time as above. This a sore point betwixt my brothers and me. One is an electrical engineer who works for NASA, currently working on the Ariane team. The other is a nuclear engineer who most recently has been spending time in Japan and Spain helping them rebuild or improve their nuclear program. Lately he has testified before the NSF to allay their fears. I teach math at a local community college. Heretic, I am. Current training is done on the Zen plan. Last year's races didn't go too well due to effects of 5FU. I'm slowly recovering from the side effects. Right now all I have on the schedule is an Olympic in May and a half IM in October. I may add more but it's a day to day thing. I'm 5'9" and currently weight 185. This is with a 31 inch waist. I have the classic swimmer's build. I have sub 10% body fat. Was a strawberry blond but I got older. *There's still a hint or two left* I exercise because the only fountain of youth we have is a combination of things; exercise, eating healthy and getting the proper amount of sleep. I have been otherwise gifted with the longevity gene. The days are short but the years are long (cheeky literary reference). Or, it may just be how I keep up with my current girlfriend, who is 27. Don't fret, dear readers, she has a ph.d in Chemistry. I don't think either of us is taking advantage of the other. We'll see how long this relationship lasts. Oh, good. I was afraid you might leave out the important bit. Welcome, my beloved mad polymath! Well, we are together for the slap and tickle, not to mention the kicks and giggles. And equal important is the decent conversation that delta IQ = 0 provides. Mad Hatter to the end. |

I'm the sane normal one in this pod! Oh wait, that would be in my family. A warm welcome and {MELON PRESS}, Skrat. Great to have you. You've been on a fantastic journey. Not even here for 1 day yet and you are {MELON PRESS}-ing him into the pod? Me thinks you are liking this 2013 piglet-strong pod. I have never been called a "yummy juicy thing that you just want to SQUEEEEEEEEEEEze" - but me thinks me likes. As for the "{MELON PRESS}-ing" - keep it coming! |

Ha - I have a date with a 23 year old on Thursday. We actually have a bit of history, we were friends first, now she is interested... Me thinks me likes that. We decided that since she is very mature for her age, and I am immature for mine - it's a perfect match! |

NAME: 4agoodlife Erin in the "real" world STORY: I love sports. I've done most everything (except swimming. NOT a swimmer!) at some point...vball, bball, sball, fball, snowboarding, riding (horses and dirt bikes). It's a jack of all, master of none kind of thing. When I was in college, I ripped up my knee badly. Four years later I had ACL replacement and patellar tightening. At this point in life, I find that some of my options have been taken off the table (for now), but I still want to be fit and active. Last year my husband took up tris. I kind of shook my head and said Whatever tickles your fancy, but not my thing. About 4 months ago I was having a talk with my 5 y/o boy. He didn't want to try something and I was asking him How do you know if you don't try it? Ummmm, yeah...good one, Mom. I did my first Sprint with my husband at the beginning of November. FAMILY STATUS: I'm a SAHM... for now. I taught elementary/middle school for 12 years. Husband and I have been married for 8 years. We have a 5 y/o boy and 2 y/o girl. A cat and 3 dogs round out the family. CURRENT TRAINING: I am at the gym 5 times/week (they have daycare!) for 60-90 minutes. The last couple of weeks my M/W/F swim and bike schedule has been mostly bike. I recently swam my first mile ever! It was slow, but I know I can do it now I was doing Insanity M-Sat afternoons and running T/Th, but Insanity is done. Got to get run schedule worked out. Inlaws coming soon so I'll have long daytime runs. Yay! THIS YEAR'S RACES: local 5k, Rock n Roll 1/2 Marathon Phoenix, IMS 1/2 Marathon, Firefly 5k, CAC Sprint Tri, local 5k 2013 RACES: R n R 1/2, IMS or Phoenix 1/2, Catching Cupid reverse tri???, Tough Mudder, Tri for Cure, CAC Sprint Tri, (I'm sure there will be 5ks thrown in there) BODY COMPOSITION: Losing 5 pounds wouldn't be bad, but I'm not unhappy with where I am. If anything, more toning would be nice. |

I ran Friday morning in 17F, day after a blizzard. Talk to me when you've been out in the real cold Please! I wish it was that warm here. It is currently a frigid -40F outside. Of course I have not been out for a run in these temps I do plan to get at least a mile run in during these extreme temps. I want to have some "bragging" rights when I leave Alaska. I am on vacation for the next 2 weeks so I should get that run in and will post a couple pics.OK, you both kicked my butt That is some cold weather, I'm fairly sure I wouldn't leave the house a whole lot. I went to mall and got in my JoGo time in Jogo fashion. Fought the crowds, wandered around, fought more crowds, went to Sam's club and did it all again. That is done for the season, which is good. |

You will soon learn what a piglet is, and what an honor it is to be one. HEY MANATEES CHECK OUT THE FORCE OF PIGLETUDE WE HAVE IN THE NEW MEMBERS! Almost as good as the old ones. They'll grow into it .... Thanks for the welcome everyone and looking forward to the craziness/inspiration. My first year on BT I was in a good group with Baowolf as the mentor but I have a feeling this will be a little more... interesting. Piglet, TAN, Manatee, pod and melon press, check. But you all have to help me on JoGo...? Also Yanti, I passed through Indonesia including Bali on a cross Asia trip in 2009, thought it was great place! I hope you have a great Christmas with your family and doberman. I've always wanted a doberman or maybe a boxer, I could never bring myself to dress it up though. Anyways I did a 6 mile run in 19 F temps, and an indoor trainer ride of about 15 miles. Edited by mn_av8or 2012-12-23 6:56 PM |

So going to be 95 here today so got up and did my ride early. 45 minutes it was lovely and windy and why does it always end up that you ride against the wind when you have to go up the biggest hills? So I'm a noob too and today is day 1 of my 20 week OD plan, I was supposed to swim but the pool is closed so I thought a ride would be the go instead. |

Veteran 334 Tacoma, Washington | Subject: RE: Mad Manatees Mentor Group - VERY CLOSED!!! Sorry! It depends what you want to keep track of really. I normally just put in my distances, times, route taken and type in anything abnormal in the notes section. You can get crazy and go with your weight for the day, time you worked out and cadence if you can get it off your Garmin or whatever. Aside from the distance and time it's all just what I feel like matters to me. |

Veteran 416 Cleveland, Tennessee | Subject: RE: Mad Manatees Mentor Group - VERY CLOSED!!! Sorry! On the BT log I like to put in the time, distance and any other information from the workout. If I am doing forced PT I right in what we did. For my bike rides I use trainerroad/sufferfest and put in a brief description of the workout and as much information I can from trainerroad. For the swim I like to put in a rough outline of what we did, it is kind of hard with my Masters Swim but I can usually put in a decent amount. I also link to my Garmin Connect account for my heart rate and also the trainerroad ride. Sometimes I have a question and it is easy to be able to share this for someone to help answer my question. |
