Sensei ![]() | ![]() ChrisM - 2013-04-03 10:18 AM It's a d bag move from an immature kid that wanted to grab some spotlight that wasn't on him (ever see his finish line poses?), and he's now apologized for it. Shows at least a little growth, good for him. This guy is the future of cycling, he's going to have to represent the sport well, and he's learnng This, IMO. I think he was being campy for his friends. Did a completely childish and moronic thing. I could say so much on this topic as my wife is a model, and I hang with her friends in the business and hear the scoop and deal with this kind of thing on occasion but I'm sure my opinion is meaningless on internet forums and don't need the argument if I should expound. I am surprised at both sides of this argument - especially at basing an argument on what people are assuming what the podium girl is thinking or likes/dislikes . In general, there is not as much "outrage" in the industry as some have in this thread. But there is also little tolerance for what Sagan did either and there are rules in place. In fact, there may, or may not be, "back rooms" in clubs here in Vegas where bouncers may have a polite discussions with you if you feel like crossing the line with the staff. |

But I'm sure they are more grossed out they have to schmooz and smootch up to someone who just did 4-5 hours in the saddle than a pinch. I always hope they clean up a LITTLE before going up. Clean their face at least. NO crusty salt kisses for the podium girls, please. Rock and Roll marathon hires girls to be showgirls for photo opportunities for all the finishers. I'm sure my wife would rather take one unwanted butt pinch than have 1000's of marathon runners who just finished the race than have them put there arms around them for a photo. (Not to say I would like that better). But they smile and are professional and make you THINK they are just loving it when, just like any job, they are thinking about the errands they have to run that weekend and when their shift is over. But yeah, she like the runway stuff better. More separation from people. Not a fan of the jobs that require more interaction. |

Regardless of the discussion of podium girls, I agree Sagan's behavior was shameful. He should be ashamed for doing this. I get he thinks it was just a joke, but it's an inappropriate joke. I think some reactions to it can be extreme, but that doesn't change my opinion of the behavior. I'm still going to cheer for Sagan as an athlete because he is sick good and entertaining. This incident isn't going to change that - for me. If I saw my son do this, he would get an earful from me. There would be no misunderstanding that it is inappropriate and he should be ashamed for the behavior.
It is that attitude that bugs me. It is not inappropriate. Inappropriate is giving an interview about how badly you want to see what podium girl is wearing under her skirt. Inappropriate is making a lewd gesture. Inappropriate is taking a picture of someone and turning it into a mean meme. This is wrong on the same level that slapping someone in the face from anger is wrong. That someone can be 23 and not know this is not surprising but it is tragic. There are highschool football players in the states who are apparently going to jail for not knowing what is wrong.

Uh.....no.....they're going to jail for rape. Again, the brush is too broad....and in this case, not even made with the same material. |

Yes they are going to jail for rape, although apparently they didn't know it was rape when they did it. I guess I disagree that the brush is to broad. I guess I used the wrong word. Clearly things that are inappropriate are wrong. I guess the word I am looking for is criminal. Not all inappropriate things are criminal. And saying this is merely inappropriate dilutes it. Not all criminals go to jail and not all criminal acts necessarily result in criminal charges. And face it, if I my buddy off and he clocks me one, likely I would see that I had it coming and forgive him. Likely this hard working podium girl could care less and may very well walk up to the guy and say, "listen, that was a douche move but I know you are mostly not a douche and you feel douchey about it so lets not be awkward and just be cool from now on." |

Uh.....no.....they're going to jail for rape. Again, the brush is too broad....and in this case, not even made with the same material. This is what i was trying to allude to earlier when I said people are overreacting. If you try to act as though this is some kind of heinous crime akin to rape, every person under the age of....whatever age turns you into an uptight old man is going to laugh at you and ignore everything else you say. Come back to the real world please. Whether you think its right or wrong or whatever. Girls have grabbed my butt, ive grabbed girls' butts. I've been slapped before, shoved by drunk guys in bars, been cursed at by angry drivers. I'm still alive. So are they. And even if its not the proper and moral and right thing to do all the time, that doesn't mean you are correct to come down on Sagan as though he has killed or raped someone. He touched a girl's butt and made a face, and then said sorry afterwords. Holy Crap. If this gets people that riled up what do you do when something bad actually happens. |

I would guess a criminal act is a bit more than just an uninvited touching - but I could certainly be wrong. I agree that an uninvited touching could be criminal, but I think there would need to be more.

In California, as in most U.S. states likely, it is technically a battery, which when boiled down is an unconsented touching. No physical injury is actually required. Although this would never be prosecuted as such. |

If you really got the lawyers involved, you could probably say it was sexual harassment and she could go after the company that hired her or the client for not have a harassment free work place. I'm not sure, but if you pinched the butt of your secretary (leaving sex out of it). You get fired, but I don't think you get criminal charges against you. |

Interesting laying your hands on a complete stranger in an inappropriate fashion is not something bad. I have smacked men for doing exactly that. She is not in a position do so, it would likely have a negative impact on her career, so hmmmm how about sexual harrassment? Like it or not in the working world what he did would get him FIRED!
