Ok so my bio

NAME: Stacey

AGE: 37 (had to think about that for a minute cause I don't really care)

FAMILY STATUS: married with no children (unless our 6 mastiffs count)

LIVE: Perth Western Australia

STORY: I used to do a lot of sport in high school including swim on our high school team - I wasn't good but they needed a forth girl for relays so I was it. I also did a few triathlons as a teenager. Fast forward 20 years of desk work and 10+kilos and I was talking one day to my brother who does HIMs and he challenged me to do the 2013 Bussleton HIM with him. I said no but felt inspired and started with a mini sprint to raise funds for great cancer. That was 18 months ago and I kinda got hooked.

I have trouble staying motivated to train and my running ability really sucks big time but I'm getting there.

PLANNED RACES: Our summer tri season has just finished here but I have the following races planned for 2013/14

26 May 4km run for a reason

Late August City to surf half marathon

November 3 mini tri for breast cancer

November 10 swim leg of HIM

March 2014 Oly distance

QueenZipp - 2013-05-05 12:36 AM It's cold and dreary water temp is mid 60's and the air is mid 50's I am not looking forward to racing tomorrow. Only doing it for the open water practice.

Welp, I'm here cheering you with bells on.

You need more cowbell!

Thanks, I needed the smile.  My neighbor passed away today--he was elderly and in poor health.....but kind of like a second grandfather to my kids after my father died.  Have to dig deep and race for Harry tomorrow.  He would like that.

Oh hey, a new thread! I found it!

So I was cruising along on Friday on the bike trail.  In aero, holding steady at 20 mph.  I typically pass people and don't get passed.  I hear a buzzing sound behind me, and think, "Am I getting passed? That means..." And then there it was.  A guy on a tri bike cruising at 23 mph (I know because I tailed him to see how fast he was going).  Hafta say it was cool to see another tri person out and about.

There's the goal!  Need to work on the legs and get those few extra mph.

Hey Tom how is your knee going? Is it getting any better?

Its an 'official' rest day from tri training today, so Clint and I went to our nearby park/school playground instead and threw a baseball at each other (occasionally we caught it too..), I then tried my hand(s) at the monkeybars (and failed...repeatedly)...so not a real workout per say, but I got some activity in. Laughing

Is it too soon to ask a training question?  Wink  Y'know how with running training plans, you build for 3 weeks then have a bit of a 'rest' week?  Should that 4th week go back to the 2nd week volume, so actually decreasing for a week, or just do the 3rd week again?  So fer'instance, using time:

Week 2: 2:45

Week 3: 3:05

Week 4: 3:05?  or 2:45?

Schpanks.

Training?! What the ... what is THAT?

Sorry, there's no straight answer to that. There are all different kinds of build/pullback cycles--some people never even do a pullback period but might take a recovery day or two with no running or just easy runs from time to time.

If I were you, I'd look back on your training and try to identify what are safe increases for you and when you most benefited from a pullback (and by how much, and what the return period after that looked like).

So in your example (if it's done by weeks, it generally is because that's easiest for us to schedule and wrap our heads around, but there's no other particular reason for it) ... I would actually go by how you're feeling in that 4th week. If it's going to be 3:05 as well, fine, but I might do a chunk of the runs at easier intensity. Sometimes when you're feeling beat up you might need to cut the volume significantly and space out runs of really low intensity to cover every day. (Load = volume + intensity)

Ha!  My run training has not been consistent enough to this point to do that!  I went with 3 build/1 pullback with my current running cause that's what I thought you were supposed to do always...  I have been feeling good, so guess I will just keep going with what I have been doing. Sealed

Oh, forgot to mention, got me a wetsuit finally 2nd hand one, but at a good price. It's a 2XU V2. Has some good reviews. Can't wait to try it out, only thing putting me off is the 9 deg Celsius sea temps at the mo. I'm such a wuss. Gonna have to do it soon.

I bailed on the race this morning.  Woke up and my hip still really hurts.  I haven't been keeping up with all the stretches/exercises from PT like I should, so it's tight again.  Also, E didn't go to sleep until almost 1 and was up at 6:30.  Oy.  It's been quite a morning.  We're watching cartoons and playing trains right now.  I think the cat just stole one of her blueberries.

I'm not exactly sure how my knee is, because I've babied it for the last two weeks.  I'll get out today for a trial and let you know more.  I stopped by my doc last week, and he recommended I try PT, which I have an appointment set up for on Tuesday.  I hope I can run soon, because the marathon is beginning to be on my mind.

In other news, it is a fantabulous morning for a bike ride, which I am heading out to do.

Go do the OWS and bail on the rest of the race. Or take forever in T1 and really dry off as best you can with a car chamois and bundle up.

amd723 - 2013-05-04 6:02 PM  Rev3 Venice again, as I had a great time doing that this past year. However, a certain Manatee has been riding me about racing this year, so I will probably fo the Oly.

I prefer to think of it as gentle nudging and you're lucky I didn't ride you about doing the HIM. . Actually, this is the firmest commitment I've heard about you doing the oly, so I'll take it!

I'll admit, gentle nudging sounds better. I'm not HIM ready yet, if ever. An Oly is all I got for this year. We have a vacation week planned in mid Oct, so that may mess with preparations, and I don't own a wetsuit. So I am only at about 68.9% committed at this point. Or I'm just looking for a reason to bail on it.
