Makes me feel even more Bad a$$ for finishing it It was brutal this course has chewed me up and spit me out the last 2 years. The heat just made things 100 times worse I started to overheat 40 miles into the bike. I am looking at doing Boise now in 4 weeks as I just need a change of venue something a little easier. |

Member 241 | Subject: RE: Ironman 70.3 St. George : Official Thread Yeah, it kills me when the news reports about the race say things like "perfect weather in St. George 70.3". Well, not quite, the pros had perfect weather but we lowly age groupers suffered! The top of my head was on fire by mile 5 of the run. I thought I was going to get heat stroke. However, I was able to best my time from last year so I was very happy with the race. I will be back next year. Glutton for punishment like that... |

10 | Subject: RE: Ironman 70.3 St. George : Official Thread That is the toughest race I have ever done. I did CDA last year and that full was easier than this half. I have done Buff Springs 3 times, they say it is tough...St. George is so much tougher. I was all good until snow canyon...Killed me for the run...They say St. George is the second toughest race there is, I believe it....What is the number 1 toughest by the way??? Love the town and the people!! |

Veteran 1677 Houston, Texas | Subject: RE: Ironman 70.3 St. George : Official Thread It was definitely a challenging race, but it was so amazing! The views were gorgeous and it was so rewarding to cross the finish line. Granted I don't have a lot of races under my belt, but this was definitely my favorite so far. I won't be signing up for it next year, but I could easily be talked into doing it again in the future. |

Love the town and the people!! I've tried to figure out which is the toughest. I think Silverman would have to be up there its a lot like STG its in Vegas first of October so hot hot hot, very hilly bike not sure on the run. I am glad you said that about CDA I had really been having second doubts about doing a full after STG has spit me out the last 2 years. I did see an article on the 6 easiest 70.3 yesterday Boise, Oceanside, New Orleans, Florida, Texas and Puerto Rico. I am thinking of doing Boise in 4 weeks to see where I am and to get some redemption. |

Veteran 468 STATESBORO, GA | Subject: RE: Ironman 70.3 St. George : Official Thread Toughest by reputation: Half - savageman. However, I think Silverman and lead man halfs are super tough. Full - Norseman Great day had some issues that morning but I beat my goal of a 4 hour bike leg. This is for sure the best venue in the country for a race! |

Member 560 Utah | Subject: RE: Ironman 70.3 St. George : Official Thread I heard from several people on the course that they have done fulls and StG was harder than IMTX, IMCDA, or IMFL. Makes me feel good as well as in one week I will be signing up for IMTX. Tough day, I will come back, though with IMTX being on the list for next year, I will have to settle my score with the StG bike course another year. I do agree, great town, great place and course for a race. |

I just looked up Savageman that bike looks brutal that 2000 foot climb at mile 20 looks like a killer. Not to mention the whole bike has 6700 feet of elevation gain versus STG's 4000. Where did STG rank against Norseman when it was a full? |

Regular 115 Las Vegas | Subject: RE: Ironman 70.3 St. George : Official Thread Hello, My name is Mike Kooyman, I am 45 and will turn 46 the week after this race. I have done 3 full IM's and 3 half IM's. My first 140.6 was at St. George. I not sure how I even finished that one. I did St. George 70.3 in 2013. I crashed on the run and spent 2-3 hours in the medical tent after the race, not fun. Im coming back to prep for IMAZ in Nov. My goal is to not fall to pieces on the run. I will be hitting the hills as part of my training. I live in Las Vegas, so I have very similar terrain and will be going up to St. George periodically to do some training on the course. If anyone else will be traveling to St. George to do some training let me know and I will do my best to get up them and train with you. I look forward to getting to know everyone on thread. this is a great way to stay motivated during your training. Remember you only have today to work with so make the most of today, tomorrow will never get here! |

128 | Subject: RE: Ironman 70.3 St. George : Official Thread The swim is very well marked, you can normally see 2-3 buoys at any given time really easy to sight. The swim was long in 2014 versus 2013. They made you swim to a swim start and I only know of handful that actually made the swim start before the gun went off. I heard the swim was off by .1-.2 of a mile so it was closer to a 1.4. Don't worry they gave it back on the run which was a little short as they cutout a nasty golf course detour at mile 11 (it was a mean uphill at that point). Plan for hills all the way around both on the bike and on the run. See you in 2015. |

I'm in for 2016! This race was on my top three with the requirement that the race 1) be 70.3 distance on a Saturday (or at least not Sunday) 2) be some place that I want to visit 3) Be someplace I can reasonable travel to. My top choice was a race that is a 10 hour drive from where I live, but on the route that we take to get to my in-laws ever summer anyways. It was much more reasonable to travel to but it was sold out, so despite St. George being 20 hours from where I live it moved up to the top spot. I haven't been to St. George for over 20 years, but my brother moved there last year and bought a home two months ago so it is a place I want to visit very much and am excited that things were possible with that other race because I was having a hard time justifying a 20 hour each way trip. I also am excited to finally have another concrete goal to work towards too. |

This will be my first out-of-state race. I'm looking at all the elevation gain on the bike and esp. run, and am wondering what I've gotten myself into. At least the swim is flat. |
