Pro 4089 Without house | Subject: RE: *new* Athena challenge for May This week is shaping up rather nicely for me. I won't get all 3 bikes in, but I will hit all 3 swims and runs. I'm going to be driving up to the site of my first tri tonight after work and ride the bike course tomorrow. Wahoo! |

Master 1790 | Subject: RE: *new* Athena challenge for May Hey Athenas, How is everyone doing? Did you have a good week? Did you meet your goals? If you didn't, what stopped you? I, sadly, just had a bad, bad week. In all honesty, I was disappointed at "only" losing 1.5 pounds at my weigh-in last Monday and let it drag me down. I skipped a bunch of workouts. And then I did a really long, great run Saturday, and noticed that this morning, I had gained 2 pounds overnight (and not from overeating). So now I know that after hard workouts, to expect a bit of a gain that will vanish in a day or two. Unfortunately my TOPS weigh-ins are Mondays, but what can you do? I did run three times and biked twice, but those two bike rides were easy ones with my boyfriend. Didn't swim at all. My goals for next week are a bit ambitious: 3 bike commutes 2 swims 2 runs I'm maybe sorta possibly just thinking about doing a 10K trail run next Sunday with walking breaks. I might talk with the race director and ask if I can start with the walkers (they start 30 minutes earlier than the runners) because I'm so slow. It's a small event, and I just don't want to do this and have the finish line being taken down by the time I'm done. |

Subject: RE: *new* Athena challenge for May Nancytris - 2007-05-06 7:59 AM Reporting in: New Week's Goals (5/6-5/12:
Swim 3x; Walk 40 minutes 3x; Bike 2x; Yoga 1x for an hour; Strength 1x; Rest 1 day I will work on getting in that one rest day as I ended up being tired, and feeling a little stale. Need refreshing rest I think. As most, I have a very hard time taking a rest day even though I KNOW how important it is and how much it helps my performance. So I will prioritize that for this week! Have fun this week everyone, Nancy
Got in TWO rest days!! 3 swims, 2 bike/spin, 1 yoga, only 1 walk, and 0 strrength There simply are not enough hours in the day!! I am way behind in logging into my training log, and do not have the time to do that this evening. I iwll try to catch up later. Basically same goals for week 5/13-5/19 swim x3; bike/spin x2; walk x3; yoga x1; strength x1; 1 rest day. have a good week everyone... |

Expert 1022 In limbo | Subject: RE: *new* Athena challenge for May This week was a rough one for me....I got all but one of my workouts in but mentally it just wasn't there....my focus has been really bad lately. I think it's the fact of being almost done with school but not quite that's sort of got me in a funk. Graduation is less than 4 weeks away, but there's still A LOT of work to be done in those 4 weeks! I just can't seem to focus on doing anything, and a lot of this week i've found myself drifting back to my past depression-like self....spending way too much time in bed...laying around doing nothing even though I'd rather be getting stuff done...no motivation...no focus. Anyway, this evening I went on an absolutely wonderful bike ride (read about it in my log if you want) and that seems to have gotten my head back where it should be. I'm feeling much better than I have in a while, and have accomplished more homework in the last 3 hours than I have in the last 3 days combined! So here's to a much better week this week! Not just going through the motions but actually feeling good and accomplishing things....and not have to spend 2 hours talking myself in to a half hour workout! (happened twice this week....decided I was going to go and then spent the next 2 hours "getting ready". I've got my dr.'s appt. on monday, where i'll hopefully get some sort of clearance for my shins for running again....if so then i'll be back to my usual goals....3x running, 1x swimming, 1x biking. Maybe an extra bike if there's time, since i'm really loving the biking right now. |

Expert 783 Spokane, Washington | Subject: RE: *new* Athena challenge for May Well, last week was a bust for me... Spent the week in Disneyland with the family. Oops, I should say that it was a bust from a training standpoint...we had a great time. Got home really late on Sat night but made it out for an almost-2-hour run yesterday. So, one workout in my log last week. Hmmm.. For this week, I want to run 3x I feel like I'm way behind on bike volume. |

Subject: RE: *new* Athena challenge for May Even though I had friends in town and went out quite a bit I had a great weekend of riding! I missed my swim goal by 1 but am so happy I completed the "Loop" in Red Rock canyon, it's a bit of a bikers mecca out here. My family is in town this week so getting in all my workouts from the plan will be a challenge, but I'll do my best. I'm also starting the 8 week swim focus today. Bike x 4 Swim x 4 Strength x 2 Run x 3 Yikes! Talk about upping the ante! Have a great week! |

Pro 4089 Without house | Subject: RE: *new* Athena challenge for May I didn't meet my goals from last week (3x each), but the workouts I had were kick-azz. I definately becoming a workout in the morning person. So, here's what I did last week...goal/actual Swim-3/4 (#4 was my first OWS...SANS WETSUIT. In mid-May in Wisconsin, that's no joke. If you want a laugh, go read about it in my blog...and see the nice souvenir I got as well) Bike-3/2 Ride #2 was over the Elkhart Lake sprint tri course. Killer hill in the latter half, and I was proud to say that I didn't have to get off and walk my bike up. Run-3/2 I'm officially under 14 min miles...and I'm stoked with that. I just need to up the volume. Goals for the week of 5/13 Same as last week...3x each discipline. I already have one ride in for the week, a recovery ride that I did yesterday. Keep up the awesome work, everyone! |

Absolutely no running until I see the dr. again next week. Haven't decided yet if I'm going to continue substituting eliptical in for running days or if I'm just going to do lots of swimming and biking this week. Feelin pretty sad right now....definitely not what I wanted to hear! I know it's not the end of the world but not what I wanted to hear either. I really was hoping to get back to working towards a 5k. Ok...sorry....done whining now. |

I have been working on healing plantar fasciitis for over a year now, and feel justified in my whine!! It is NOT fun to not be able to do EVERYTHING we want to do! Lately I have been real into my swimming, but that is to the detriment of my other activities! No Tri is on my calendar until the pf is taken care of --who knows when! But I keep cross training even though my walks are not as frequent as they should be. Do pay attention to your doc so you don't do more damage and be sidelined even longer. You have my empathy!! This weeks goals: swim 5,000yds bike 90 miles run 16 miles Everyone have a great week! |

Master 1790 | Subject: RE: *new* Athena challenge for May Lil_turtle, hang in there. I know it's so frustrating not being able to run, but if it is a stress fracture then the rest is helping you on your way to healing. I hope you get good news at the doctor, though. I dealt with PF for a long time and just thought it was because I was overweight. FIrst podiatrist I saw said that there wasn't anything I could do but rest, so for a long time I didn't exercise at all. Then I started this running program and got shin splints again. Saw another podiatrist, highly recommended, and turns out I have a biomechanical problem -- along with tight calves -- that contributed to it. I got orthotics and the problem disappeared virtually overnight. Great goals. Who else has goals for the week? |

Elite 3020 Bay Area, CA | Subject: RE: *new* Athena challenge for May So, no really structured goals for this week - other than to get back working out at least somewhat. I've ran/swam/and biked once at least - but it feels VERY minimal. I've got my first tri of the year on Sunday - so I'm tapering... yeah, that's it. |

Science Nerd 28760 Redwood City, California | Subject: RE: *new* Athena challenge for May I didn't do so well this week. I'm feeling really drained and sick this week. I'm hoping to be able to work out more than I have been. I've got a MS150 coming up in two weeks, so I need to get back into it this week so that I'm ready. My goal this week is really to get in more frequent and longer workouts than I've been doing. That's not really all that specific, I know, but that's what I'm shooting for. |

Subject: RE: *new* Athena challenge for May this past week I did all my swims, all bikes plus, my one yoga, and a rest day. I did not do any walking (pf acting up) and no strength. Not too bad, but not as good as I'd like. New Week 5/28-6/1: swim x3; bike/spin x2; walk x2 (any amount of time); strength x1; yoga 60 minutes. I am not able to find the time to actually log everything in, so will just post my weekly results here. |

Expert 783 Spokane, Washington | Subject: RE: *new* Athena challenge for May Last week was really tough with a business trip and a 3-day campout with the gradeschool. I managed two runs and a spinbike ride at the hotel with a short transition run after spinning, then nothing but hiking around with the kiddies at the campout, and finished the week with my first tri of the season on Sunday... An Oly distance where I came in third of the Athena group! I wrote a race report if you're interested, but it was a blast! I took Monday off as I was still tired from the race, but this week I plan to: Swim 2-3X (hopefully an extra on the weekend, either pool or OWS to get the 3)

Master 1641 Cambridge, MA | Subject: RE: *new* Athena challenge for May Hey Susie and the rest of the Athena gang, I was out for a few weeks, not logging stuff well, but now I'm up to date again. I just updated my logs now and am at 17 of 50 bike commutes so far as part of Tim's bike-to-work challenge. I also realized some of my goals as an Athena with a little too much winter/spring? weight... I dropped 3-4 pounds in May and am in the low 170s again. Hooray! Commuting is great fun, but I think my desk job (or rather the chair I sit in) is killing my back. See my log for details and drop inspires if you can relate or feel so moved. I hope you're all feeling more mobile and happy in the lumbar region than I am today! And to the lady above asking about a June Athena Challenge, I say "yes, Susie, let's continue this" or "feel free to start another yourself". All it takes is one new posting. Cheers, -Sunny |

Maybe we can make things more interesting and challenging and divide all Athenas that want to play in June in 2 teams and compete against each other.... or something like that What do you guys think?

I think we should...I like the idea of splitting up into teams and making it semi-competitive. I'll probably be more likely to be actively involved if there's competition involved....just my nature. |
