Cycling Guru 15134 Fulton, MD | Subject: RE: Ironman USA Lake Placid This is my last hard week as well and then a 2 week taper. My training load sucked in general, which I already knew it would, but with the last few weeks of constantly building and 3 straight 100 mile rides on Saturdays (plus one more to go) I have a little bit more faith in my abilities then I had back in May ..... For everyone else who is over the training hump, enjoy your taper madness! No Taper Tantrums please!! |

Master 1557 Maine | Subject: RE: Ironman USA Lake Placid gremlin327 - 2008-06-29 8:01 AM I have a question for all you folks that have done the race or have at least ridden the course. Wheel selection... I raced there in 2006 and rode the course in 2007. I will be using an 808 front and disc rear, mainly because it's all I have besides my training wheels, but also because I saw plenty of people using that setup last year and I think it's a good choice. I think some of the mixed messages come from generalizations that people make about the course, which is usually something like "Lake Placid is a hilly course, so don't use a disc or super deep wheels." Truth is that there are plenty of parts of the course where you can really fly and benefit from the most aero setup possible, and the climbs, while long and gradual, are not super-steep to the point that wheel weight is such a serious concern. |

This is my first as well. Taper starts this week, and I already managed to forget a towel for swimming this afternoon. After 6 months of swimming, you would think it would have been automatic to remember stuff like that. |

Champion 19812 MA | Subject: RE: Ironman USA Lake Placid My bike/run taper starts today. I'm still building my swim and will do a couple IM distance ows in the next two weeks. I'm looking forward to putting faces with so many BTers I've "met" on-line over this past year. My first IM...I'm excited, nervous, and glad to have the bulk of my training done. |

Veteran 227 Brentwood, Tennessee | Subject: RE: Ironman USA Lake Placid Thanks for the advice. It feels odd, but I think I am going to go with the 808's front and back. I am doing my last long ride Sat, a 118 miler in a pretty hilly part of FL (yes, we really do have hills, you just have to look for them). I will ride the 808's and see what it feels like. Three weeks out from IM is not the time to be posting strong runs in a HIM. The only good run your body needs to pull off is the one in LP. You'll be fine! |

Master 1420 Reston, VA | Subject: RE: Ironman USA Lake Placid I am into my taper as well. Will drop the volume a little this week and then really lower it the following 2 weeks. I have done my long runs and rides and just want to show up at the starting line healthy and ready to race. |

Let me know if you need money to tip the delivery guy! I think Active took my portion of the tip for the delivery guys. Of course, that delivery cost is probably built in with the rest of the Who's going to the pancake breakfast??? That was pretty cool of the local church group at IMFL and I already saw the thing for the LP one. Free for anyone who shows up (guests and athletes alike). Met a few people at the table and shot the stuff with them. Edited by Daremo 2008-06-30 1:54 PM |

Pro 5123 Canandaigua NY | Subject: RE: Ironman USA Lake Placid Still peaking into the weekend with a couple of nice long workouts to celebrate the 4th! The swim doesn't really drop off until the 2nd half of the week before the race, but nothing too long for those workouts either. Feeling good about where I am at for the most part. Fighting an achilles issue which has the run off a bit, but still should be ok. I saw the pancake breakfast and thought it might be a good idea. Still working out schedules for the wife coming up (I am driving up Wednesday but she is not sure if she is coming up with me or waiting for her friend to come up on Saturday). Taper well if you have started or finish strong if you are still peaking!!! |

Elite 2915 New City, New York | Subject: RE: Ironman USA Lake Placid docswim24 - 2008-06-30 2:30 PM . and just want to show up at the starting line healthy and ready to race. I hear this. Just had a major scare w/ an upper respitory "issue". I was forced to take 3 days off - including my last long w/e- and started anitbiotics. Thankfully they kicked in and today's chest x-ray came back negative. WHEW! Can't worry about what I missed just thankful I caught it in time. Plan to ease back into it and get a medium long weekend in and then the "official" 2 week taper. Be safe people and listen to your bodies. Doubtful I'll be at the pancake b'fast. I'll definately be in the lake tho. Edited by rollinbones 2008-06-30 2:40 PM |

Hope all went well on the kid front. Steve - don't worry about the run. That became pretty brutal yesterday. I felt sluggish from the get-go on the bike so I took it easy, yet still my run was 10 mins slower than last year. The entire field was slower in general. You'll be fine in LP. |
