I'm in for food, plus one delightful wife to accompany me. If she would ever call her aunt & uncle we might be staying in Lawrence. Otherwise I have no clue where it is we'll be coming in from. |

We'll be coming up from Rolla, with a handful of others who are doing the race as well. Perhaps the Rolla group can meet up with some of you beforehand. Hey Kristen! Glad you could join us! |

SANTA MONICA | Subject: RE: IM Kansas 70.3 I''m damaged but not dead!! OK now keep in mind peeps I'm asking but if you're telling me what I don't want to hear it's totally possible I will act like you must be talking to someone else. ;-) I sprained my ankle a month ago. I can walk (hobble) I cannot run yet. I am doing range of motion circles with my foot, pointing and flexing it and icing/elevating it in the evenings. I just rode my bike for 35 min (on the trainer) this morning and I AM going to do IMKS 70.3!! What I need are some suggestions on what the heck I can do nurse this along. It FEELS like it's been 4 mos of dealing with this. I have already had to sit out on a half marathon on Dec 2nd, and I have acknowledged that the LA MArathon is out also. I am NOT giving up IM KS 70.3 or my IM (Vineman) in Aug. Let me know what you got people!!! ----- "...there is no spoon." -The Matrix |

Well, thats my plan and I'm sticking to it. |

Ice and elevation is nice, but maybe taping the ankle would help as well. This is where a qualified PT would help. If you can't run then give Aqua-jogging a try. I had to resort to this a few months back. It helped. Good luck! |

It FEELS like it's been 4 mos of dealing with this. What has helped me get over sprains quickly is to ice, when I woke up, during my lunch hour, when I got home from work, on and off every other hour until sleep. I usually found I could begin jogging/biking within three four days with and air splint on the ankle. |

I did the Midwest Mayhem last year which is in the same general area and I never needed to drop off the big chain ring to tackle a hill. |

SANTA MONICA | Subject: RE: IM Kansas 70.3 Well I thought about aqua running or using the elliptical - since biking in't hurting. I found a PT to go to and at least get a professional evaluation on my progress. Hopefully it's all going normally and I can get some kind of home rehab program. Thanks everybody for chiming in. |

Well, thats my plan and I'm sticking to it. You'll have far more hills in the Golden area then you will find at Lawrence. You'll still find rolling hills but nothing spectacular. The elevation will give you a little boost but I wouldn't bank on that getting you through the race. |

Thats what i was referring to, I thought it was a comb at first : 0That is why charts are used in business meeting's, they can give a false impression, that chart is 56 compressed miles! The wind has the most potential to put you under, truste me, those 25 mph head winds and cross winds with 35 mph gust are not fun! |

They aren't tiny but there aren't any greuling climbs either... |

You know I used to drive like a maniac on those hilly, curvy roads of eastern Kansas and always thought `these roads are PERFECT.' I'm sure riding them will change my mind a little. |

Regular 97 | Subject: RE: IM Kansas 70.3 Okay this maybe a stupid question, but I am trying to plan my nutrition for the race. I know what I am taking in but I am confused on how to carry it. I have never done a Ford Sanctioned event. I know there are bike aid stations. So do I get water bottles in my goodie bag that I will change out when they get empty on the bike? I don't want to toss my $20 Polar freeze bottles once they are empty. I have my Aerodrink and 3 cages on my bike. Someone tell me whats up with this and how it works. |

They are serving Gatorade Endurance, which will be handed out on the bike course in bottles that will fit in you bottle cage, they are the large bottle with the twiste open top, so buy some Gatorade Endurance in the bottle that will fit your cages, you can pitch them @ the aid stations when you stock up! |

Expert 1226 Chicago | Subject: RE: IM Kansas 70.3 mr2tony - 2007-11-30 2:28 PM Crap. MRS2Tony just asked a very good question: `How are you going to get your bike down there?' So my options are to A) Fly down for $100 and fly my tri bike down for $250. B) Fly to Omaha for $100, pick up my roadie, the drive down. C) Buy a new tri bike when I get to KC. I opt for `C' but I'm guessing it's going to be B. Hey Tony... I just wanted to throw this out there for you, but Mike (outofshapeguy) and I can drive it down for you. We have a Thule 4-bike hitch rack, so we decided to make this a road trip to avoid shipping our bikes. I think we're leaving on 6/13 and return the 17th and staying about 20 miles out of Lawrence along K10. Shoot me an email and let me know if you're interested. |
