Member 73 | Subject: RE: Ironman Louisville : Official Thread Is everyone meeting at Starbucks before the banquet? If so, what time? Did anyone see the people who do the photos? Last year we could pay in advance for certain pics but you could cancel the next day after you saw the pictures. I couldn't find them this year |

Subject: RE: Ironman Louisville : Official Thread Good Luck to Everyone tomorrow!! I have got to say, so far my experience here in Louisville has been nothing short of AWESOME! What a cool city. The locals love their bourbon, baseball and horses - that's for sure! Everyone in this city has been very welcoming, enthusiastic and polite. We went to the Louisville Slugger museum and had a blast. The tour was great. 4th St Live was great - been there twice. The Ohio River is beautiful. The Athlete dinner was motivating and the food wasn't too shabby. Staying at the Galt House has been great too, super-convenient. The only let-down so far has been the Skywalk. Nobody uses it! And it's kind of hot in there and you have to navigate a ton of doors. But other than that, this city is AWESOME~~~!!!

Veteran 945 South Windsor, CT | Subject: RE: Ironman Louisville : Official Thread since I'm relatively new to IM, I must say that the 'IRONMAN live' feed for Louisville is really terrific! What a blast watching the athlete's come out of the water. And I can see the race happening from the spectator's box-a new experience for me. Now, come on Bobby, finish up that swim so I can see you move on the 'myathletelive' tracker!! |

Extreme Veteran 345 Westfield, In | Subject: RE: Ironman Louisville : Official Thread Great Job everyone.
I will just say it now I had DNF for the first time ever in any race. Felt great until about mile 50 when my body just fell apart. I stopped and talked to my family in La Grange on the second loop and told them I did not know how much I had left. I finished the bike but the last 40 miles seamed like 100. I just could not peddle. I ended up in the med tent off t2 for about 45 minutes. I had stopped sweating at some point during the bike. Not sure why as I was drinking a good amount of fluids. Maybe being sick this week caught up with me but I am not sure. I could barely walk so I knew running was out of the question. I hobbled back to my hotel with my ego in tow and my family all around. Rough rough day Edited by rwsads 2012-08-27 7:42 AM |

Last year at this race I was dangerously close to blacking out just past the finish line. The guy next to me did and was carted off in the ambulance. I had to sit down, then lay down, then practically be force fed food and gatorade before the stars in my vision went away. Do not like |

Master 1826 | Subject: RE: Ironman Louisville : Official Thread Good job everyone, it was pretty toasty out there and it was next to impossible to keep up with fluids. I drank 12 water bottles and 2-3 perform on the bike and was caked 4 layers deep with salt and low on hydration.. I had chills most of the run because of the fluids .. Overall I would list it as a pretty hot day for a race with a nice headwind to beat you down coming back into town.. Wind was nice on the run |

I am still in the hospital having 1000 tests run on me. Not how expected to be celebrating. Wow, hope you get better soon. Regarding the weather, the high was 95 with an air quality alert at around 5PM. At least that is what they said on the 11PM news. I don't know other than it felt hot. It was pretty tough and the front that was pushing in created a nasty headwind for the last 30 miles or so. It certainly made what should have been then easiest leg of the bike pretty tough. I was sick for that entire stretch including getting off my bike several times to dry heave. Spent almost 25 minute in T2 getting hydrated and resting before heading out for the run. It was not pretty but I finished in 15:13. Woo Hoo!!! Edited by Batlou 2012-08-27 11:37 AM |

Extreme Veteran 833 Strong Beach, CA | Subject: RE: Ironman Louisville : Official Thread No way that's correct. It was easily over 90 and quite humid. Cloud cover started rolling in in the afternoon, which helped keep the harshest rays to a minimum, but it was still very muggy. I had a decent race for going into this pretty much blind. No way to train for the heat, no hill training, halfway across the country from home and no family support on the course. 1:12 swim. Went really well. Water temp was 84 and felt great. Not much contact, easy sighting etc. have heard reports that course may have been long...lots of people went 5 minutes slower than previous years. Not sure as my swim PR is a 1:07 with a wetsuit. Ride started on a bad note when I hopped on at the mount line and found my rear was flat. About a million people went by me during the 15 minutes it took to change it, and change it again when the spare blew as I was putting the wheel back on the bike. (I was the guy right there at the left hand corner of the chute cursing like a sailor). Tough bike course, and really really boring. Very little crowd support, and I felt like I was in the middle of nowhere. Drank lots, took lots of salt pills, dumped lots of water on myself...never felt too hot. The unending rollers sucked. Overall hated the ride. Not counting the 15 minutes for the flat, I rode a 6:02. Run was tough for one of the same reasons above. Compared to AZ and CdA there was pretty much zero crowd support other than the aid stations and 2 blocks around the finish line. Pretty clear that the local community wants nothing to do with the race. Cnot even any support from the college kids and we run right by it. The whole run goes by residential houses and at most there was an old couple sitting out on their lawns watching. This all compared to CdA where whole streets had block parties with music playing. Cthank god for the awesome family members of other racers that were out there cheering for everybody. Anyways, I shuffled a lot, walked the aid stations, caught up to my friend and brother at 20, I while I felt strong enough to pull ahead and finish sub 13, it was way more fun to spend those last few miles together and cross at the same time. 13:07 finish. Finish line on 4th street was pretty epic. Overall it's been a great weekend, just not a race I would ever do again. Hope everybody else had a good time. Sorry to you guys that had to drop out. |
