Brian - STINKS for the bike - hope you're feeling okay today. Get a replacement! I found out Friday my frame has a crack. It's not big, but I have to ship my bike in 8 days, so it is what it is. New bike will have to wait.

Extreme Veteran 483 San Diego | Subject: RE: Ironman Coeur d'Alene : Official Thread Thanks for sharing the article, T...Good stuff! Ursus - sorry to hear about the accident. Surely not something you need to be dealing with now. Good to know you're ok. Hope the frame is sound. Another Crowie / Lieto showdown in Boise? Can't get any closer than last year's finish! Was at the TCSD meeting with both of those guys a few months ago and it was interesting to hear them talk about the race (as well as Honu & Kona). There's a video of their interview with Bob Babbitt here. Click on TCSD Club Meetings. Hope you don't have to be logged in, but it doesn't seem like it. Last tough weekend coming up. 75-80 mile ride on Sat and then pacing a friend for the last 20 miles of the SD 100 through the night. Last over-distance OWS swim on Sunday. Then it's swim, swim, swim and int / tempo rides and runs before one last easy week of piddling around & travel. 20k TT tonight = +/-30 min. of suffering. Oh joy! |

They said the only thing to watch out for is if the frame starts creaking in the next few weeks, which would mean it got cracked. Fortunately I don't think my bike actually hit the lady's car, I skidded out just in time and slid under her rear bumper. I thought my rear tire may have hit her as a skidded but it doesn't look like it since it's not at all out of true. Bummer man... glad you're okay though. If you have a carbon frame, you can also try tapping a quarter around the frame. If you you hear a thud sound, that can indicate a crack. |

You did 11:07 lastyear?? That is awesome. Is that your fastest time (didn't realize you had done so many Ironman races as well). What are you shooting for this year? I'm following you... Yes, last year was my PR. After doing 5 IM's I know enough not to predict times. To much can go wrong or right on raceday. My only goals are to finish upright, stay out of the med tent, and be able to have several beers at the finish. |

I learned quickly during my 2nd IM that you can never predict a time until the finish line in sight. So much can change with little notice- it's just crazy! Like you I just want to finish CDA- but my goals are not to have GI issues or mechanical issues on the bike. |

Considering how this year has been for me, and trying to fit training into that, I can't ask for much more. |

Regular 156 Annapolis, MD | Subject: RE: Ironman Coeur d'Alene : Official Thread I asked this question on another thread but I'm getting conflicting answers. For past IM-CDA's, when do we drop off our special needs bags..the day before or the morning of the race. The athlete guide makes no mention of when they are to be dropped off. Trying to figure out how to keep the drinks cold for the second loop of the bike...or learn to drink the stuff warm. |

Extreme Veteran 483 San Diego | Subject: RE: Ironman Coeur d'Alene : Official Thread My understanding is that the two transition bags are dropped off the day before the race. Special needs bags are dropped off on the morning of the race. We should also have access to our bikes on race morning to set up hydration / nutrition / computers. I was wondering how we end up getting our wetsuit, swim cap and goggles back? |

Veteran 163 California | Subject: RE: Ironman Coeur d'Alene : Official Thread You shove your wetsuit etc into your now empty transition bag at T1 (empty because you just took all of your bike stuff out). Or what always happens for me, a very nice volunteer shoves everything into my T1 bag for me. Same thing with your bike stuff at T2. At the end ofthe race you pick up your transition bags in the transition area. SN Bags are also brought back, but they are randomly dumped in another spot near transition. You get to dig through to find it, and hope any contents haven't dumped out. In other words, don't put anything in your SN bags that you absolutely must get back. |

Champion 7553 Albuquerque, New Mexico | Subject: RE: Ironman Coeur d'Alene : Official Thread Good luck to all the CdA peeps this year. I had the race of a lifetime last year there. For the bags: You'll get 5 bags, T1, T2, Special Foods-Bike, Special Foods-Run, and Race-morning dry bag. If you don't have a sherpa, your sweats or whatever you wear to the venue before the swim goes in the dry bag (they specifically asked people to NOT put floor pumps in these bags...borrow one if you need). Your swim stuff goes into the T1 bag after you get your bike stuff out (so don't put "extra" stuff in the bag that you don't want wet/stinky from cohabitating with your wetsuit all day). Your bike stuff goes into your T2 bag after you get your run stuff out. As I recall (things were a bit chaotic after I finished last year), the T1 & T2 bags were with my bike (or they might have been in an orderly row. I think I dropped my special foods bags on Saturday and I don't recall access to them on Sunday morning, but I didn't need access. One thing that helped me was to put all of my small stuff (gels, lip balm, etc.) into a 1-quart zip-loc. I slipped the bag into my jersey and I didn't have any fumbling because my cold hands couldn't manipulate the small items (nor did I lose anything on the ground or leave it in the bottom of the bag). The guy ahead of me dropped his vial of E-caps without realizing it. I tried catching him with them, but couldn't. |

Fill your bottles the night before, leaving just a little room at the top, then freeze them. They'll be thawed but still cool by the time you get to SN unless it's a really hot day. |

Hmm..I'm thinking about making the 4.5 hour drive from Salt Lake now . Okay people, no more wrecks and/or injuries - were way to close to be screwing around now!! T-Liberty - I had to do a little "Ironman stalking" since your full name was in the newspaper article. You did 11:07 lastyear?? That is awesome. Is that your fastest time (didn't realize you had done so many Ironman races as well). What are you shooting for this year? I'm following you... TriSeattle, I would offer you a place to stay. However, as luck would have it, I came down with Strep Throat a few days ago which pretty much knocked me on my butt. Thank goodness for antibiotics, and a lot of rest I am feeling better. ?However, now my two year o?l?d? ?????has an ear infection. Brutal. My house may not be the safest place to be at the moment. I cannot believe it is June and we have this crud going on. ? ???????The drive from Salt Lake isn't bad. Also the Boise 70.3 is a 2PM start time. You could almost pull off a day trip, although it would be a killer. Kate Majors and Julie Dibbens are also in town. Temps will be in the mid 70's. It will be a party like atmosphere in downtown Boise for sure. I am looking forward to watching the drama unfold. Wow, and Lieto just won Kansas last week. I am curious to see how he competes against Alexander. Lieto has taken 2nd the last two years in Boise. Both were nail biters. Curious to know if the 3rd time will be the charm. |

Veteran 185 Spokane | Subject: RE: Ironman Coeur d'Alene : Official Thread Nice - I would have definitely liked to have gone up there to see this race (Boise). You're right, it should be great with some good weather as well. I know a guy, somewhat of a friend, that is racing - he should fair well. His name is Josh Hadway, so keep your eye out for him. Rides a sweet black/white Kestrel...he should finish in the top 50 or 60 I think...maybe sneak past Lieto/Alexander ..haha. I wish one of those guys were racing at CDA this year. Weve got Potts though right? |
