versed2mg - 2010-01-27 2:20 PM as of january 1st there are 3076 participants in IMLP 2010... thats gonna hurt in the start!!!
And that number doesn't include the special entries that get added on. For instance, community fund, sponsor exemptions etc. I think I am starting to understand why LP stayed open for registration on-line for a few hours...[/QUOTE]

because of the economy

j/k....
start should be interesting to say the least.

i'm gonna follw PS and GPS into the water...I think they have a secret starting spot this year.....

The ringer is Alaina.  Seriously.  And Jorge if he can heal his shoulder is a fast little fishie.

I don't really kick much in OWS....so i'm a sucky draft.

Anyone using the Lake Placid Spinervals DVD?  Love it?  Hate it?  There's no way I can take a training trip to LP to check out the course so I  was wondering if this would be a good representation of the course.  Any feedback or options are appreciated....as always.

I have it and have used it a couple of times (got it for Christmas- the real life ride one I assume you are talking about).  Well of course it is good representation as it is the actual course.  He breaks it down into sections which is nice.  I think as long as you listen to him it is worth following - because sometimes cameras can't really show the slopes properly.  He does the hills well by telling you to go into lower gears.  What I don't like following much is all the downhills where he tells you to spin at 100rpm+ - but maybe I should!
What I do like is that like others posting here, having ridden the course several times he does tell you that the hills start in Upper Jay and not just on the last stretch!

Now THAT is funny! I am NOT a swimmer! It's all my wetsuit Dan, Jenn and Jorge are the fishies- and I'll throw some elbows to get behind them

I don't think it is that helpful. The guy is annoying, filming is a bit wiggly at times. I've ridden course maybe 8 loops and don't think it represents it well other than scenery looks right.

One less salt tab to carry though!
greyguy - 2010-01-25 11:47 AM People would take them out of their tri shorts and throw them on the ground and then the volunteers would pick them up off the street, put them in the ice bucket and just hand them out to the next racer. If it is hot we will all want sponges.....I just wouldn't recommend squirting them into your mouth like I saw some people doing! Just a word to the wise.....

There you go Sara, looking at the positive side of things.  That kind of thinking I like and will certainly move mountains.  No wonder you got 2 votes LP entry list.   Sealed

All right LP people why so quiet?  Too tired from training?  Crammed a little too much training that last week of Jan 2010?

With less than 7 months away from glory, I am a little above my goals.  Good for me.  If you have any questions please ask.  I also think there is plenty of other than are willing to answers question, even a crazy old uncle.

I have been hard at work trying to improve my swimming. Just trying to keep up with all of you ultra fast swimmers! Just bought the Essential Triathlon Swimming dvd from Tri Swim Coach. I am really hoping to see improvements on my swim. Of course I have also been spending time in the saddle. I have to get better on those darn hills.

That’s great!  I love hard work.  Are you working on improving your technique or just fitness?  Spending time in the saddle is wise.  In my opinion a strong bike will most certainly help with a good LP race.

One thing I learned a long time ago, race your own race.  Keep up with the fasties didn’t always work for me.  I tried to do that in some races and it was all I could do to finish.  The best part about that is I learned and the learning was applied to training.  I grew and got smarter in my training and races.

I will be working on hills in warmer weather when I can ride outside.  I don’t like using a trainer to do hill work because of my riding style.  So, right now it’s Computrainer (CT) time working on intervals and technique mainly.

Okay I need some advice. I understand the Infinit thing for the longer rides. Sould I suplement with just water, Cytomax, or other? Also should I add a recovery drink such as Infinit Recovery or Fluid Recovery? Thanks for the help.

Makes me feel good to read that it's a good strategy to try to improve on the bike. That's what I'm doing. I'm a miserable enough cyclist that I feel just plain old time in the saddle is showing some improvements. But I'm also doing intervals and long rides and technique workouts. Sadly, a lot of that time is on the trainer, but as soon as the weather gets tolerable, I'm gonna start doing hills outside. Any advice on how to "do" hill training (besides from just, um, riding hills?).

Yep imo doing hills training is really going to help at LP.  I can tell you what worked for me.  This will all depend on what your terrain offers.  I living in the central PA area and I am lucky to have the terrain I needed to train like this.  So, some may think this is excess, but it provided me with success.  Then again it all depends on your goals.

My LP bike training last year was a lot of hills.  I was also looking at a race after LP (The Savageman) so some of the really steep stuff you could drop for LP.

Basically a base 50+ miles with 5000-6000ft of climbing hills that ranged from 6% to 22% grade. Medium rides were 30+’ish miles from 2500-3500ft of climbing.  Some longer rides 80+ miles 4000-6000ft of climbing and real long rides of 100-125 miles up to 9800ft of climbing with all different grades.  My recovery rides of 25+ miles with 1500ft or less of climbing with a mix of flats and rollers.  In my opinion training on rollers is not what you want for the LP course.

Again this is what I did.  I am more of a climber.  So you have to decide maybe on less to start with.

I attack steep hills in training.  Trying to maintain a RPM at 60, 70 or better depending on the grade.  I like hill intervals or repeats on short 1/4-1/2 mile 10-13% grades.

I also like long low-medium 6-8% grade of 3-5 miles.  More of a steady ride in the saddle or can be switch to a harder tempo ride.

My coach came over and we started talking about my plans to change out my Cervelo Dual for a carbon bike. He told me that my bike was in fine condition and that I could get faster just working on myself. He suggested a much better investment would be to get a Computrainer......so I did and it should be here this week.

I realized that with work my longer weekday rides will need to be at night even when it gets warmer and then I'll ride outside on the weekends. In other words, my bike is going to be on and off the trainer all the way up to the time of the race so the Computrainer should get a lot of use.

Oh, and I have stopped telling any non-triathlete friends that I am doing IMLP. They all look at me like I am crazy or actually tell me so directly.
