Just booked my flight!  Staying at the Summit; get in on Wednesday!  Going to swim the course on Thursday Nov 3rd if anyone is up for it (I heard they put up the swim course early)

Excited for my 2nd IM!

I'm driving down ffrom SC arriving Wednesday evening.  I would enjoy that swim on the course , count me in.  What time frame Thursday morning..  i am staying out a bit at the Flamingo right where the bike course 1st turns north.  I have the water right outside my door, but would be fun to swim the course.

I'm arriving Tuesday evening and staying at Shores of Panama - anyone up for a swim on Wednesday morning ?  First time in PCB so don't exactly know where to start from unless the course is marked that early in the week (doubt it).  I'll also be good for a swim on Thursday morning as well.

The swim course is in front of boardwalk beach where sign in, expo etc is.   They used to have a gatorade swim and have the buoys out early but I guess someone died at a gatorade swim so they don't do that anymore and gatorade is no longer a sponsor. They do have tiny little white buoys that mark the course.   Technically you are not allowed to swim the course but ona beach as big as PCB they can' prevent it.

Would be in for a thursday am swim for sure.  I arrive wednesday and staying at boardwalk beach condos. Do we want to swim 7am same as race start or sleep a little and go out at 8am or split the difference and go at 7:30?  In the past we just met at the boardwalk outside boardwalk beach hotel.

Last 3 years we have ordered BT tshirts.  I'm not sure that we have time to do this at this point and I certainly don'thave time to organize it but I will throw it out there.

Socks, I for one would like to get as much sleep as possible leading to the race.  The later the better.  And yea, you foot looks painful!

I have a clothing question.  I am thinking more and more of just using my tri shorts for the entire event.  They are fine for a 70.3 and are pretty comfortable but not sure about 14 hours worth.  I will wear them swimming and for the bike, the only question is should I change for the run?  Decisions, decisions.  What do you guys do?

And yea, I think we already talked about this but now it is becoming reality

I vote for 7:45am meet up with goal to be in the water at 8am. Last year we had a daily meet up at same time/place Wednesday, Thursday and Friday.  There is a deck behind Boardwalk Beach hotel (host hotel) and that is where have met in past years. As you face the water it is to right of swimming pool and usually to the left of the WTC IM merchandise tent (closer to tent than pool). Hotel has an open walk through in the middle that you can go from front to back, that is about where we meet up.

I am in for Thursday as I fly in Wed.

Last year Wed. when we swam they had very small marker buoys out that were white maybe 6-8" in diameter and hard to see that day due to waves as they'd be under water some of the time and white doesn't stand out.

In for a swim Thursday morning! 7:45 sounds good to me, I doubt I'm going to get much sleep while I am there.  There are 4 of us in our condo, staying at the Shores of Panama.  Can't wait to meet everyone!!!

Another tip is if you need bike work done, go to Alvin Island's parking lot and there will be a tent with Dragon Sports which is a shop that is near PCB. They have reasonable prices for doing work and they even adjusted my front derailuer free and you can leave a tip in the jar. Dusty helped me and a few other BTers out last year.

In WTC village they have mechanics as well but takes longer and more expensive.

Jen DiCarlo shared this tip last year and checked they will be there again. Dragon is her local bike shop.

I wore tri shorts and a tri tank all day at B2B full last year. Put on and took off tights and long sleeved cold gear shirts to get on the bike and again after the sun went down on the run. I wore Orca 226 shorts the whole day.

Reading this thread has really made me excited for everyone...

I am dedicated to getting into this race, so much so, that I am heading over early saturday AM to volunteer race day-PM, so I can definitely get in for next year.

Dusty or Dale?

Dale is the shizzle.  Be sure to tell Dale you know me.  Of course, they probably won't have my famous chain there....

See, all these questions about the bike course and construction, etc, are why I was thinking about someone who was going to do the course anyway on a training ride wear a helmet cam. It would answer a bunch of questions about the big condition issues. Wouldn't show the difference between chip seal and nice asphalt at 20 MPH, but the big pieces would be there.

Sorry.  I should have told you I was riding it again tomorrow...but I didn't decide until a few days ago!  Maybe I can get some more pictures of Thomas when I'm in PCB.  The rest of the course is really unremarkable.  Thomas is the only issue.

Does anyone know if there is a practice swim (an official IM one) on Friday the day before the race?  I don't see anything about it in the Athlete Guide.  However, at IMKY last year, there was one.  I will not be getting in until later Thursday morning and was hoping for a practice swim Friday.

I'm going to have to look into it a bit further but I've heard that they quit doing official practice swims after a medical incident during one.
