Where is everyone? I'm sitting at my internship without anything to do! I need amusement!

Here's a quick question. So I just finished my A race this Saturday and signed up for another Olympic distance in 6 weeks. How should I go about resuming my training? Should I just jump back into my peak volumes, rebuild slowly, or have a quick ramp-up? The race is on June 9th in Montauk, NY.

Also, Let's get some pictures of your guys stallions! (bikes). I want to see all of your chariots, I'll try to get a picture of mine later tonight.

ZFirst I would take this week pretty easy. Then start back at the level you were about 5 weeks out from Nationals. You will  not lose fitness in that time and once you start back you can work on your nutrition.

I will have to take a new picture of my bike as I now have the sweet race wheel I won in a raffle and will be racing on this weekend (weather permitting)!

So I rode just under 90 miles in 4.5 hours sunday. Keep 20 mph for 4 hours and only really lost it the last 30 minutes. Yesterday was a rest day and I was sore. Not as bad as the previous monday, but I had tightness and the occasional cramp. I did hydrate and take in electrolytes so I am getting better at it.

This AM was a short run and my right hamstring was TIGHT! Anyone got any good hamstring stretches?

YOGA, works for me.  Where is the tightness? muscle belly or attachment? it matters.

Muscle belly! I'll take good yoga positions for it any day.

Very glad to hear it's the belly of the muscle.  I really think many of the yoga poses are effective.  Can you take a class that would allow you to move through ragdoll, half lift and down dog a few times?  I find when they're mixed in with the other asanas it's a very effective way to work the hamstrings and hips.

My best quad stretch is tough to explain.  I kneel and the the foot of the leg I want to stretch is on one a chair behind me.  It works the quad and the hip flexor at the same time.  It is similar to the standard stand and put your foot in your hand behind you quad stretch, but mine protects the knee better.

How beat up are you?  how much did you taper for your A race?  It's a little tough to answer the question since you don't log your workouts Tongue out.

One thing you can do while bored is read up on nutrition, pre and post race.   You will be amazed at how those few tweaks will improve your game.  Maybe by 33 seconds or so

I'm pretty sore/beat up. I had a decently long swim workout last night and that seemed to help a lot with getting the soreness out. The part that hurts the most are my feet from blisters/running barefoot in transition. Ugh, I hate logging workouts, I never know whether to input time or distance or both. Or how to enter a spin opposed to a bike opposed to a trainer. I'll try and start but I'm making no promises. Now let's see what I can do about my nutrition....

Doc thinks I tore my gastroc.  That's a new one for me.  He also things I pulled my hammy, and that the nerve pain from my back is heading further down the leg.  Joy.  Instructions are simple: wrap it up, limit use, no s/b/r for 2 weeks, and go back in.  If no improvement, we start the whole mri/xray thing back up.  He also told me that my toes looked like runner toes.  ouch.

This may limit my sherpa effectiveness at IMSG.

And, sadly, John, I'm going to have to pull out of IMTexas.  dang.

Hopefully I'll be able to post a picture  my new ride tomorrow, Sam really hopes so since she's sick of hearing me whining for a couple weeks that they haven't finished building it yet...

STut - 2012-04-22 9:03 PM Alright, so I finished top 10 in the AG for the Seal Beach 5K.  I was a bit surprised because I wasn't really pushing.  I ran a pretty causal 7:07 pace just running with a couple friends from my club.  Lesson learned.

Very impressive CASUAL pace.

Thanks but it was only a 5K, now if I can keep that pace for a Full I'm in business.  Working on holding it for the 10K next.

x2 on yoga it always works for me or a simple legs up the wall is easy and allows you to build the stretch as you loosen up.

Sorry about the tear Linda, at least it's not a knee meniscus tear or Achilles tear. I'd have thought a gastrocnemius tear should heal fairly quickly. One of my friends has had the same injury and she's got over it and is doing a 100km trail run next month!

Now that my running volume has increased I've got a few of my usual niggles back but I seem to coping, this morning I ran a 10 k and then had to play tennis with my wife and her friends. I haven't played regularly since I was a teenager but I knew that saying I didn't want to play would be a bad move.

Needless to say I was pretty cr@p and I managed to trip over a ball and take the skin of my elbow and strain my left hip flexor in the fall...

Me Smile

It's a local sprint.  Hoping to see where my level of fitness is compared to last year at this time.  But darn it, I woke up with a freaking head cold today.  Still have time to feel better, but I really don't have time/energy/patience for it right now.  Wah....

Wow Linda, I missed this.  Totally reminds us how tough you are to have finished BOSTON.

Rest up (seriously - take it easy) and let's hope that you have remarkable improvement in the next two weeks.
