kcarroll - 2009-06-15 10:00 AM Did I mention that we have great diners in Jersey?  Really good breakfasts all day long.

I drove though the fine state of New Jersey last weekend. Haven't really visited anywhere there in quite a while. Too bad the Turnpike and Parkway take you through pretty mush the ugliest parts of the state :(

doctorbob18 - 2009-06-14 11:08 PM what is your favorite football team?

NY Giants!
Not a popular choice but I still love my childhood favorite MIAMI DOLPHINS!! I also root for NE PATRIOTS a lot since I lived there and it is a more popular choice - I don't get ridiculed as much! ha ha ha

It's quite popular in my house, but not in the DC area where I live.

My running is behind last year's pace and I don't know why. I haven't really lost much yet with my current heel issues and I only lost a little running earlier in the year with minor ankle/knee issues. ANd I've been doing more long runs. Hmm

Why is it Bugs?  That I got up at 6 am (a bit before my alarm) on Saturday/Race Day and 5:30 am yesterday morning to go watch a Tri...but come Monday morning I snooze for about 30 minutes and don't rise until 6 am?!?

Does anyone actually get excited to go to work in the morning?? If so, what do you do??

I get excited each and every day I wake up to go to work. I am the director of a small business that does "brain training"...no joke. We help people improve their cognitive skills through intense exercises that improve memory, processing speed, auditory skills, logic and more. We work with a lot of kids that struggle in school but we also help athletes, gifted students, adults, seniors and the most fulfilling (to me) are those recovering from illness or brain injury (like soldiers). We have a 21 year old male right now that had a brain tumor removed last year and he is doing FABULOUS. He has improved so much and he walks in with a HUGE smile every time b/c he feels so much better....very satisfying to help improve someone's life like that and it happens DAILY.

I was a VP in technology for many years but found this opportunity and have NEVER looked back. The only problem is the economy and we are feeling it BIG time right now. It is fun and very similar to physical training b/c we train our bodies to be their very best and in my work, we train the brain to be it's very best! Okay, I'll stop now. But I do LOVE it!!

lkc01234 - 2009-06-14 4:49 PM This will be my last one about Chicago...(and please realize I've not lived here all my life...so there is SOOO much to see and do that I don't know about - but this is very basic)

FOOD:
- MUST HAVE CHICAGO style PIZZA!!!  whether it be Lou Malnati's or Giordano's or Aurelios or ?!?!  I know you said you don't eat too much greasy...but this is worth the splurge - and one piece is usually enough!!
Also depending on if you're staying in burbs:
- Portillo's is REALLY good.  It's a hot dog place and polish sausage and all that stuff - but they actually have pretty good salads too.
- Other "chicago" known places - Billy Goats Tavern (kinda in the greasy food though) but they are the place from the SNL skit: "Cheezborger! Cheezborger! No fries, cheeps! No Pepsi, Coke!"?  There are a couple locations - one is on Navy Pier, while not the "original" place...Navy Pier is pretty cool too (big ferris wheel there...)
-Also there is a popcorn place - that silly me hasn't been to - but is supposed to be really good - called garrett popcorn which has the "Chicago" mix which is caramel corn and cheddar popcorn...which sounds kinda gross - but is yummy!
- Signature room in John Hancock building (the other tall building in Chicago)  Is a good place for lunch - not terribly expensive.  I've never been there but my mom RAVES about the bathrooms.  She says the woman's bathroom on the 96th floor (or something like that) have a FANTASTIC view :-D

Chicago-style hot dogs are a must to do.

I grew up in Milwaukee and I have a lot of family in the Chicago area.  Reading all this is making me a little homesick.

Ok what is a chicago style hot dog?

A Chicago-style hot dog is a steamed or boiled, never broiled all-beef hot dog on a poppy seed bun, which originated in the city of Chicago, Illinois. The hot dog is topped with mustard, onion, sweet pickle relish (usually a dyed neon green variety called "Nuclear Relish"), a dill pickle spear, tomato slices or wedges, pickled sport peppers, and a dash of celery salt; sometimes, but not always, cucumber slices.

Whe I increase my distances my pace goes down accordingly. Heel issues are surely to blame as well.
How is the stretching going? It took me about a week of regular stretching to notice a significant difference.

On her log Roni says:

Yay! I finished Boise 70.3 in 7:28:23. I figured I would do it in around 7:30, so I was alittle under that. The conditions were pretty rough too with rough water, rain, hail, wind, thunderstorms, the only thing I didn't have to worry about was heat! I'm happy and learned a lot out there

Sounds like she did an amazing job under awful conditions. Yea Roni!

I'm a law prof. I love getting up and going to work.

Hanging out on teleconferences, on the other hand, I do not love. I am "listening" into one right now - not part of my law prof job, but more part of my engagement with industry in my field.

Well I just logged in 33mins of running.  My legs are still sore from the band work I did on saterday.  I was supposed to ride my bike yesterday but with the yard work and sore legs, that didn't happen.  I'm going to see if I can't squeeze it in tonight maybe.
