Pre-race routine:

Got up and grabbed a bottle of water and ate half a dark chocolate bar. (yum!!) Packed my bags for the day (thought I was going to be playing soccer and hanging around..) Headed out the door and 5 minutes into my drive I realized that I forgot my tunes (iPod/arm case). doh!! MUST PACK BAG(s) NIGHT BEFORE!!
Event warmup:

Signed in, walked around...changed into tennis shoes..chatted with a few of the relatives..nothing special..

I was nervous! However, I think I was more nervous about whether not I'd have to take a crap during the middle of the race than actually about the race...too many horror stories regarding crapping by the side of the road!!
Run
  • 36m 21s
  • 3.11 miles
  • 11m 41s  min/mile
Comments:

It was drizzly the whole time...the 1st 1/2 mile my arms were a bit chilly...but didn't really notice afterwards. Was definitely not hot!! (Due to fact it was raining and I was not dry!) I just kept plugging along..not fast - but moving! About mile 2 I was getting tired...but not too bad - just a little bit of body fatigue and a little bit of mental fatigue.
What would you do differently?:

Wake up a bit earlier...and/or pack bag(s) before. (I knew I should've...but I wanted to see if it was raining...and I didn't wanna!)
Post race
Warm down:

I FREAKIN' DID IT! and I didn't get too bad of a time..for me...I just walked around a bit and had some water. Grabbed a bagel piece and stretched the leggys out..

What limited your ability to perform faster:

Just need to keep training and adding distance - speed will come!

Event comments:

DID I mention I DID IT?!?!? I ran 3.1 miles - and even had a little kick left in me the last 0.1! I'm glad I made sure to get a good nights rest 2 nights before the race. I always feel like I'm tired because of lack of sleep from night before the night before... I'm also glad I didn't eat too much. I had a bottle of water and drank 2 small glasses during the race...just a smidge over too much. I could feel small cramping - but nothing major. I was just glad I didn't have any food in my stomache...WOO HOO!!! I've done the swim distance of my race, I've done the bike distance and NOW I've done the run distance...NOW if I can just combine those all together...

Well done!  You should be proud.

The nice thing about this distance is that with a little work you can cut time.  It is a great yard stick for measuring speed and can be repeated a on a pretty regualar basis.  Check out the Jack Daniels running formula. Here is one of the sites that I like http://www.runbayou.com/jackd.htm  It allows you to plug your 5K time in and figure out how fast you should/could do a marathon in.
