Veteran ![]() ![]() ![]() | ![]() Got in about a 5 hour ride (really, really chilly first thing in northern MD this morning) and then did a 1 hour brick run. Took both nice and easy apart from a short 10 mins of Z4 hammering on the bike - felt good all the way around. Just watched Crowie and Chrissie take the titles in Kona (oh and 3 Brit girls in the top four !) - inspiring stuff. Watching Rinny trying to run down Chrissie reminded me of seeing her at Eagleman earlier in the year - her run style is so smooth. (Mental note to self - must work on that tomorrow !) Adrian |

Veteran ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() | ![]() Hey all. I havent been here much since last year cause its been a tought one for me. Two rotate cuff repairs since december. BUT, I'm thinking about you all. I'm volunteering for body marking from 4:30 - 6:30, and we have condo right on the run course and it looks like we'll be playng Alabam just as lot of you start the run.
When you pass us around mille 2, have a seat, say hi, eat a pb&j, drink a beer, say GEAXU Tigers, but most importantly, know you have people with you. The former finishers, your fellow competitors, your friends, your family....YOU WILL DO THIS!!
here is a lil video i made after our race last year http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=suCO1clGIvE |

![]() Sure you don't need to be reminded that You guys are up next. I'm volunteering finish line from 6-9. Super excited to see you guys at the finish, but hope to see you around PCB prior. Edited by Havin'Fun 2011-10-09 7:10 AM |

Expert ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() | ![]() OK, is anyone else getting tired of training or is it just me? Ran my slowest 5k ever yesterday. And I mean EVER. including my first one. Oh, my first sprint might have had a slower 5k but it was close. I wouldn't have ran it but our coach is part of the group that put it on as a fundraiser. So no choice. Besides it's the only one of the year my wife goes with me. She power walks so when i finish I go back and walk with her. Oh yea, they have a pancake breakfast with all the bacon you can eat, and I did! Overall a good day. Rained out today for our 4:30 hr ride. Disappointed but not disappointed either. It felt nice going back to bed while it was raining outside. I ended up sleeping in and slept for 10 hours last night. It was amazing. Can't remember the last time I got more than 7. I already have 3 100+ rides in and countless 60 - 70 mi rides so it will be OK. I'll get about 90 min on the trainer followed by a short run in just a little bit. Besides next weekend will be large I'm sure. I haven't seen my schedule but we probably have a long ride with a 3 or 3:30 hr run the following day. I'm buying all my stuff for the race. Bought new new running shoes (Asics 2160's). I'll put 50 or so miles on them so they'll be fresh. New goggles, new long sleeve tech shirt in case it is cold like last year. I still need new clips as mine are really beat. I'll take my bike in for maintenance in a week or so. I'd do it myself but they always do a great job. It comes back like a new bike for $50. Well worth it. Need to do every ting a few weeks ahead so I can try it all out - nothing new on race day right? Am I nervous?????? enjoy, Duane Edited by Duanerice 2011-10-09 8:55 AM |

Extreme Veteran ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() | ![]() Getting back into the groove! After today, I will have done 3 hrs swimming, 9 hrs bike, 3 hrs running this week. My leg feels great!!! I did an 1 hr run/walk without any pain during or after. I am going to stick doing this for my long runs. I think I am fully healed but don't want to reinjure before race. I never felt so fresh. Maybe this injury could be a good thing...... Any good way to calculate pace for an ironman based off a 1/2 IM? |

Regular ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() | ![]() Major blow to training this weekend for me. Was supposed to do 100 mile ride yesterday. Got 15 miles up the Ladiga trail in Alabama and blew my front tire (cut going through my continental into the tube). Not sure how it happened but i bungled one of the CO2's and went through my supply. After looking at the tire, limped it home and called it a day since I had to go get a new tire. Later in the day, came down with the chest cold my family has been passing around and I have been trying to avoid. Stayed in bed extra 6hrs this morning hacking my lungs out. So no 20 mile run today, or 2 mile swim. Would push it all to this week but I'm on call through Sunday. I guess I'll try to keep up the smaller distance runs/bikes through week and pray for a better week in two weeks. Hopefully the rest of training til now will pay off. |

Um lets try this again. Do they count the run as part of the swim distance. I don't know. Maybe someone who wore a Garmin during the race could chime in. You could do a search on garmin connect to see if you could find someone's race gps data. You could email WTC and see what they say. Edited by KathyG 2011-10-09 4:41 PM |

![]() Okay, starting out at the east end of Thomas Drive. This is the “detour” they have created. I stood in one spot for the next several photos and just kept turning about 30-45 degrees to my right. ![]() The Alvin’s at the end of Thomas. ![]() Looking towards the water. ![]() Looking straight at where the plywood was last year. ![]() Looking west at the rest of Thomas. Where I am about to drive and take more pictures! ![]() But first another shot of where the plywood was last year. And where the road USED to go. ![]() |
![]() ![]() |
![]() Same as the last one. ![]() Okay, I drove a little ways down. They have these uber convenient cut outs in the road...perfect for stopping and taking pictures! Looking EAST at the place where the plywood was last year. And where the end of Thomas USED to be. You can see that the road now curves to the left to go out to the main road. ![]() Another of the same. ![]() I turned to my right and took a picture of the Boardwalk. those concrete things make me nervous...that indicates maybe that they need to do more digging? ![]() The front of the Boardwalk. ![]() Parking access for the Boardwalk. At least the sidewalk is 90% done! ![]() |
![]() ![]() |
![]() More boardwalk. This is where the finish line was last year. ![]() Boardwalk parking again. ![]() More boardwalk. ![]() I moved further down the road. This picture is taken facing east. That’s the Boardwalk Convention Center....where I spent a LONG time in line last year to register! ![]() Entrance to the Boardwalk Convention Center. ![]() This is where the expo will be. ![]() |
![]() ![]() |
![]() Looking west. I think that’s the end of the expo area. ![]() Looking west to the Shores of Panama. ![]() Looking west...oh look, my bumper! ![]() Another shot to the EAST. You can just see the sunbird on my right. ![]() Sunbird ![]() Pineapple Willies. ![]() Edited by DanielG 2011-10-09 7:32 PM |

![]() Last set are taken from the parking lot of the gas station at the corner of Thomas and Front Beach on the far WEST end of Thomas. This is taken AWAY from the water...see the Wally World? ![]() Sunbird straight ahead, Shores of Panama to the right. This is taken TOWARDS the water. ![]() Thomas...from the gas station. ![]() Yeah, this part is torn to shreds. ![]() ![]() |

Member ![]() ![]() ![]() | ![]() Duanerice - 2011-10-09 9:44 AM OK, is anyone else getting tired of training or is it just me? This is my 1st Ironman so I am not speaking from experience - but that is what I've been telling people when they ask me how's the training going and I reply "I'm gettin about tired of it" I don't know whether it's because I've been doing this for 14 months now, it's getting darker sooner or the season change or the fact that I've done some really long days and think "okay" did that!. But I am really trying to stay focused and keep it up so that when I arrive in PCB I'll have the confidence that I did what I was supposed to do. Hang in there dude! |

Feeling as if the training has just begun.... It's never over for the purpose of the "one day"... I am not tired of it,,I am still in the discovery of it... Good luck to all who are tired of it. and enjoy it while it lasts.. . To think of this day on November 5th as an end is not of my goal,,,it's only a beginning......... |

Regular ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() | ![]() Managed to hack the "funk" out of my lungs at lunch and salvage a 13.5mile run this evening and felt very good. So all is not lost. Now to find a tire for the bike... Got super pumped yesterday watching Kona, and knowing that IMFL is next on the website roster. Really brings home how close it is. Those of you that use that AthleteTracker deal, how big/heavy is it to carry? Might be worthwhile so the wife and kids know exactly when to come out during the daylight hours. |

Website has a picture of it and it's weight. I put it on my race belt and never felt it all day. My thought is, that is a gift to your family so they know where you are. If you are slower or faster than expected they don't worry if they missed you wondering if you are okay. Super your 13.5 mile run felt solid! |

I really did not notice it all all the whole day. You put it on in T1 (can't swim with it) It works brilliantly on the bike. Not so much on the run esp if you are slow like me. My dad said it was a POS on the run ![]() |
