jobaxas - 2012-08-13 6:32 PM  But the Manatees is the best!!!  By far!

I agree . . . so, if anyone wants to comment on my training plan for the next month or so, I'd appreciate it. I can take it. :-)

And finally I can report a successful Channel crossing.  The kid the other guys all bagged and tormented coz of his youth and arrogance and lack of training discipline - well he did it.  The cockiness won through!  12hours and 10 mins.

He stopped training with them coz they upset him.  and now look - they are eating their words!  His quote for the day was "pain is just weakness of the mind".

Well done Richard Keir - so damn proud.

That's amazing! Congrats to him. That sounds like an awesome time, but a very long time to be swimming.

I have the night sweats going on - just makes me laugh, I wake up coz I'm cold where the sweat is drying - I've never changed my bedlinen so much!  The mood swings are dreadful though, it's only a day or so but I'm inconsolable.  Oh well - more to come I'm sure!  And to think we manage to do triathlon while going through this cr*p, we truly are remarkable.

I hate night sweats. Nothing worse than waking up soaking wet and freezing. I sleep on a towel. Seriously.

I think training makes it all better. I notice when I skip more than a day or two, my joints all start aching -- my wrists and ankles so much that I can barely stand it. I also think my emotions are more balanced when I'm training -- my husband definitely thinks so, because if I'm getting especially cranky, he will, as kindly as possible, suggest I go for a run or a bike ride. It really does help.

But, yeah. We are hard core, bad azzes, for sure. Tongue out

I am soooo going to sleep on a towel!  What a great idea - it's all new to me, I don't sweat, not when I train, never - my head sweats on the drainer but seriously I'm the least sweaty person I know so this is weird!  Ah well - it's another phase of my life, can't change it.

Had a great squad last night - so many old faces back - 32 weeks out from IM they are all antsy!

I was going to do the drainer or run today but my hair looks fabulous so I'm taking a rest day and enjoying that!

Jo and Felicia,

Have you ever used Maca Powder? I recently read about it being a super food and great for endurance athletes. While i was checking it out I saw that it is also used to deal with menopausal symptoms.  I just bought some, so I can't vouch for its health benefits, but if you're having a tough time it may be worth giving it a try.

This link is probably screwed up, sorry.

A couple comments:

1) I think bryancd is back.  I've seen him post on a couple threads

2) Cool shoes Jo!

3) Here is a link for some awesome sheets! They really help with night sweats, whether caused by hormones or summer! They are pricey but totally worth it.

Now for my happy dance... I did a 32 second 25m today!!!!!!!!! I know, it's only 25m but I can really swim that fast!!!!!!!!!!!! Interestingly it had that "slow" feel again. The last time I had that Yanti said it was because I was getting more power in my pull.  Now I just have to figure out how I did it and keep doing it Surprised

awesome job on your 32sec 25m. I don't know how long it takes me to do 25m....we did 25m sprints last night at squad off 45cycle.  So I would go with the timer hand at the top, get to the other end then when it moved to 45 I'd go again etc.  I think about 20-25secs not sure..I got a nice long rest!

Goodness me motivation to work really left that at home today, probably on the bench in the kitchen!  Must remember to pop that in my bag tomorrow!

In reference to the other forums, I've stopped spending much time in there as well.  Honestly the uninformed giving advice to the uninformed is an issue but more so it is the a-hole responses that you get.  Not just attitude, I expect that- I mean it is the internet, but the need to one up everyone else is frustrating to me, I spend my work days interacting with people that aren't a huge fan of what I do so I don't need the attitude/showboating when I'm off trying to improve on a hobby.

In reference to bryan yeah he did qualify to Kona but his responses on some threads were IMHO not what an ambassador/mentor to the sport should be saying; if he doesn't care/have an opinion on a thread then why post saying "who cares" or "this is a ridiculous topic"?  Also he is back.

Just look at the IMNYC threads (between the sewage release, price and death threads), just nasty in more than a few spots from veteran posters and newer ones making assumptions before facts are known or reading articles posted.

I'm not trying to claim to be anything more than an amature but I do have some insight/knowledge when it comes to injury prevention on the bike and bike maintenance but yeah when a dozen knowledgable people give the same answer and some guy with 100 posts says the opposite it is frustrating when the OP thinks that's the advice to take.  But it's the internet you get what you get it's up to the OP to filter it to find the useful bits.

Hi manatees, I'm back from liver-challenge weekend #2, my annual journey to the Finger Lakes region of New York! A great 4 days of wine, wineries, lakes, beer, drinks, travel, fun, sightseeing and NASCAR.  Oh, and almost dying at the hands of a trucker who was on his cell phone and ran me off the road.  But at least I did get some triathlon training in: ran on Friday and 'swam' Saturday (not easy to do laps in such a tiny space with people looking at me weird for actually swimming in a swimming pool, heaven forbid!) in hotel pool (after eating supper and having a few drinks...not the best idea but it went way better than I thought it would).

I began attempting to catch up on the goings-on, but yikes, you guys were busy!  What I did pull out is TJ wants to join a masters class and set a new 25m PR, yeah!  Salty will soon be sponsored by McDonald's.  Felicia posted some pics that I couldn't get to without a password, and is also having similar weight loss issues as me (except she's about 50 lbs. lighter, LOL).  Someone got new sneaks, and Kate has been having a crazy heat wave in her part of the world.  Oh, and Janyne has a ROCKIN' new profile pic!  Love it!!

Same - I tend to read race reports more than anything.  I read My cup of Joe if it interests me.  I see on facebook that Ironman have suspended registration for IMNY next year in an effort to address feedback from the community.....full refunds for those who already signed up - sounds like they may ditch this event.  I expect to may top dollar for these new urban IM events but for my top dollar I expect a superbly organised event and a good atmosphere....didn't sound like they got that.

Iron Cowboy was less than impressed and he's the most positive dude I know.  He's done 12 races he has something to compare against!

Yeah I actually didn't realize there were other forums until after my first mentor group, maybe that's what BT needs- you must join a mentor group before posting in regular forums... And Manatees rock!

Its been 7 days straight of 100+ degree weather here---106 today! WAAAAAH! I am in full crankenstein mode right now.

'kay, just had to share that.

Sorry you are so hot, Kate.  I, on the wet coast, will not complain about the (not as) hot (as you all) weather, for soon, it will rain for 3 months straight.  I imagine you feel about the heat, the way I feel about the rain.  You have my sympathies.

Great job on the swim, TJ.  Yeah, I always feel slow when I am fastest too.  I think it is because it is all smooth, not the herky-jerky I sometimes am

I just wonder what happened.  I got started on BT because all the posts seemed helpful, positive and welcoming.  Now sometimes it does seem like the a-holes are running the show.  I do agree that it is 'take what you like, and leave the rest' when you post a question, but sometimes when a beginner posts a question, sometimes they get the 'are you an idiot' answer.  I realize that many questions have been asked a million times, but patience please .  I just hope it is an ebb and flow type of thing and it goes back to the way it was...

Thanks for the sympathies. I can understand the rain hatred--I don't like it when we get rained on here--and that rarely lasts more than a day or two at a time! I am a spoiled brat when it comes to weather--I want it to be 65-75 degrees at all times with slight cloudiness (aka an average fall day)--but no rain.  Obviously, I am usually not happy with the weather. Oh well, enough complaining for now...I have a race on Sunday, so as long as it cools down a tiny bit by Saturday, life will be good. Laughing

Is it considered 'bad form' to check out other mentor group threads?  (Yes I am asking because I have...

Something was posted in one that I would like to ask about...

I hope not. I've peaked into a few (one on a regular basis), and we have peakers in here as well. I say ask away.

I guess I can just ask it in here, actually.  There have been quite a few comments recently that say this:

I actually laughed at your response, then it dawned on me that that post is probably where the rest of TT and training in general is heading for good.  The uninformed (who don't realize how uninformed they really are) educating the uninformed (who genuinely want to learn) as the experienced folks continue to be shoved aside.

or something similar.  Why is this?  What is happening here that is making the more experienced people not want to post?  Is it because their posts are sometimes 'controversial'?  (I don't consider them that, I think that anything that sparks discussion is good, assuming it is done respectfully).  Is it because they give asked-for advice, but it is not what the ask-er wants to hear?

I agree with what others have said.  I think that a lot of it is people not replying with the hoped for response.  I also think that the more experienced voices are often drowned out.  If someone asks a cycling question and I respond (I think that I'm qualified, I have tens of thousands of miles on my bikes) and the a bunch of folks who rides a few hundred miles a year respond, who is heard?  After a few times of posting a well thought out response and being ignored, I think that people move on to their race group or mentor group and play there.

Lord help the rest of us if everyone with experience bails. Honestly, I've started lurking at Slowtwitch. It's mostly ridiculous bantering, but sometimes great questions get asked and the responses are good. Even Bryancd still posts over there. :-)

I'd like to hear what others, who have been around longer, think.

I scan the first page or two of the ST Triathlon form most days.  I only get BT Triathlon Talk forum if I'm caught up with the Manatees.
