trigirl74 - 2010-07-28 2:17 PM 100 days til race day!!!!

Cool I just read that and got butterflies in my stomach! damn, really?! I remember back to the early posts in this thread where we were at the 300 day countdown...

On a positive note, I've been seeing some better news about the conditions in the gulf where there are reports of the oil not being huge blobs on the surface and on the beach. Instead, it's being consumed by oil-eating microbes. So it's not as prevalent on the surface, and nature is hard at work in helping to set the world right again. Made me hopeful to think the ocean conditions will be safe for the originally-planned swim route... We'll see.

Hope everyone's training is going well. I've been doing incremental training - started with training for an OLY distance back in June, now I signed up for an un-planned HIM in September. So I'm currently training for that distance - with a sprint thrown in there in August as a "tune-up" event. Then I'll be upping my game to train for the full IM distance in ONE HUNDRED DAYS!

Catwoman - I was really getting more and more fatigued, and just worn out.  Decided I needed a recovery week, so this week I've reduced each planned workout to ~60 of last week.  It's Thursday and I'm feeling much, much better, and actually getting interested in working out again.

How's your sleep?

Anyone else tired? Or is it just me?

I took some recovery time after doing a HIM in mid July and am really enjoying getting back into the bigger training sessions again!  I'm sure my time is coming though!

I'm sleeping a lot and napping during the day. I have the luxury of resting in between workouts for a few more weeks. School starts back up in 3 weeks.

IMFLers, we are happy to hear some positive reports about conditions regarding the leak. Conditions here in PCB today are great! We had a few tarballs here and there about three weeks ago, but were cleaned up same day.  Our freinds in Pensacola and west have been effected much more than we have been here. Our Beaches have not closed throughout this ordeal. I don't think think we are out of the woods yet with this thing but may be heading the right direction. We love to have nice people come visit our beach and spend some $$ (and Southwest is cheap)! you are invited! Anyway... hwy 388 blacktop is now smooth and fast. A new Bear crossing sign is posted near Ebro, be careful! Next 100 days will fly by, stick to the plan! Be safe, stay upright, and have a great training weekend!

It's not just you.  I think for me the heat is making it worse than it should be.  The workouts themselves don't really seem that bad (I mean, really, an hour run shouldn't be that hard), but the heat just sucks everything out of me.  If I want to do early morning workouts I have to get up at 4am and that just makes me more tired, so I end up doing runs in the heat of the day so I can swim when the pool has lap swims.  That's been the hard part for me - scheduling.  And it's about to get worse.  Son and daughter both play select sports and school sports and it all starts back up - THIS WEEKEND!!!  My son has tournaments or interclub scrimmages 3 out of the 4 weekends in August.  Uggghhh.   I just keep thinking "3 more months and then I can rest".  Ha!

I tell people that it's harder to get to the start line than it is to get from the start line to the finish line.

I think we're all pushing our bodies to the limits of what they'll do, in hopes that  knowing that they will grow and adapt.    Have a great weekend everyone!

Doing IM FL too.  Gonna be in PCB Aug 14-15 and 21-22 to do some long riding of the course.  Anyone want to join in for 1 or more rides?  Looking at possible back to back 112's or some longish bricks, but open to anything long to get used to the course.  Recent 1/2 IM times are 4:27 and 4:44 for checking compatibility.

Hey everyone! I've been watching you. Nice job fighting through the ups and downs!

As for monthly totals, I had solid improvements in volume while still maintaining good quality and having a race and some testing. Alltom1, a wily old vet of tris, says my training is looking good and asides from the expected aches and pains, I'm feeling good and confidence is growing. Gotta do a better job of stretching now that we are crunching towards IMFL:

July's totals:
Bike:35h 30m 44s  - 713.3 Mi
Run:16h 00m 41s  - 120.57 Mi
Swim:11h 39m 42s  - 31703.17 Yd

June's totals:

Swim:10h 38m 40s  - 30050 Yd

Training is getting more normal this month after surgery 6/1 started doing intervals on the bike again to push my FTP back up. Running I'm just building distance/time gradually.

Is it 98 days until our IM? More optimistic than I have been with oil spill being capped and my knee improving.

A good month this one.  I'm one day shy of hitting 700 bike miles for the month.  Too bad tomorrow isn't in July.  Anyway it was my biggest bike month ever!

This week's revision to make it a recovery week really helped how I feel both phisically and mentally.  And a little sprint today really was a great way to cap off the week.  (1st in AG,  my first first)

My run is really coming along and is probably better now than it has been in at least a couple of years, and I'm very optimistic about being able to finish the 26.2 actually running.  Both endurance and speed are improving.

Since I missed out on IMLP, my plan was to get into IMFL next year.  I am a little hesitant because I live in Maine and traveling to Florida isn't easy.  IMLP would make sense because I could get there in 1 day.  Is anyone else traveling far to get to IMFL? Are you driving or taking a plane? If you are driving, how many days early are you getting there?  And how is your bike getting there if flying?

When I first signed up for the race I was living in upstate NY near Rochester.  My plan was to drive to the race leaving Tuesday morning and arriving in PCB Wednesday afternoon.  Although I still live there, I am in Southern California on a long term work assignment and will be traveling to the race from here.  Delta had the best deal and it is an overnight flight Tuesday night then a short flight from Atlanta to PCB on Wednesday morning.  If you have Southwest, they also serve PCB.

Rather than mess with the bike myself, I am going to use Tri Transport from thier pick up point at Nytro.  Since PCB is easier to find cost effective housing, any additional travel costs you have will more than be saved in condo rental.  When I did LP 2 years ago, 3 nights in the hotel (I had 6 all together) was more expensive than the entire week in a 3 bedroom condo on the  beach in PCB.

July's totals:
Bike:24h 37m 20s  - 425.76 Mi
Run:15h 03m 04s  - 94.87 Mi
Swim:5h 38m  - 16699.09 Yd
Strength:1h 30m

Considering the first half of the month had the taper and recovery from my HIM, the numbers are pretty good.  The volume the last 2 weeks of the month picked up nicely.  Putting in 35 - 40 mile run weeks and some nice bike mileage.  Probably biggest short coming is in the pool, but that will improve this month!!

Good job everyone!!

I know my run # are pathetic but I am fighting several injuries.  I dont know how on earth people train 60+ hours month because I have this pesky thing called a JOB that significatly decreases available time to train.  Luckily I have been down this road before and know I am doing enough and overtraining is the kiss of death for me so there it is   Happy august everyone.  A whole new month of possibilites!!

Yep, I'm coming over from the UK. Bike transport a bit of a nightmare but fortunately BA are fairly sensible for bike carriage, we fly into Orlando and then are driving over from there. I've booked in with the Ironman Bike store to rebuild and service the bike as soon as we arrive so all should be good. Hopefully........

ill be interested to see how it all goes via BA. im thinking of doing IMUK someday and your experience will let me know how practical that dream is.

I am my own boss. In some respects this is very good, but in others its a pain in the bootie. I told the staff that I was not working Fridays and only half days on Wed. I stay lat on M, T, and Th. They still have docs to work for and make their money too.

My wife supported me in that decision. That helps me add a fair bit of time to the weekly totals. And I am generally happier being at the office less and training more. I make less though but who's complaining...

I live in MA, and getting to IMFL is easier than many other IM races that are in rural areas like St. George, CdA or IM Canada.

The new airport in PCB opened this May so there are more flights. If you can fly Southwest you can get to PCB but will need to connect. Flying Southwest means bringing your bike for only $50 each way as their current bike fee which is low relative to other airlines.

It works well to train for FL living in NE as we have all summer to train and into the fall.

I did my first race yesterday since having my knee scoped in June.

I didn't really want to do it as I thought I would be disappointed with where I'd be fitness wise.  I was surprised how well I did and was faster on the swim, bike and run that I expected by quite a bit.  My new Ordu is so much faster than my Kuota even without my Zipps. For the first time in doing tris for 7 years I got age group hardware...2nd...small race but pleased on many levels.

I am optimistic my fitness loss is less than I feared and/or my recovery is farther ahead of where I thought it was which bodes well for being well trained for IMFL.

I did get to register for IMLP '11 on line on Monday as well which is my plan to do my 5th IM for my 50th birthday to accomplish that I will need to do 2 IMs in '11.

Kathy G- congrats on the hardware! See all of your patience is paying off!

My 105 mile ride today was awesome. Nutrition was dead on today. There is still a bit of work that needs to be done on the pacing. I feel like I could run a marathon right now.

I'm using the same nutritional plan from last year on the bike. Next week I'll start trying the Powerbar Perform on the run. I'm planning on using the same nutritional plan on the run as last year too. The powerbar perform will only be used in an emergency.
