As for the question of the week, I am with Bruce. I love the great out doors! Nothing beats running early in the morning during the summer and catching the sunrise. Can be a bit of a spiritual experience for me. I do have an android phone that I enjoy training with though. I use Cardio Trainer for cycling and running. I manually add in swims to keep my calories burned accurate. I loved when I was training hard and had the calories burned maxed out and all it read was ">5k". Some day I'd like a Garmin.
As far as gear goes, I am really thinking about investing in some good compression running shorts. Some claim to help stabalize the joints in addition to muscles. While I know nothing beats good old strength training, I thought this might help with my funky hips. Anyone use these? I am looking at cw-x and cep brands currently. Leaning more towards cw-x.

I ran an easy 5k this afternoon with no soreness or problems in my back or foot. Really stoked about that. Off to the range now for a little pistol practice before Friday's qualifying. |

Master 2501 | Subject: RE: Swbkrun mentor group - Closed jfought - 2013-02-27 8:58 AM It's Wednesday....Who's going to bring March in like a lion, a racing lion? What are your favorite gadgets/gear, and why? Post some pics and links if you are able.... Oooh, oooh, oooh... ME!!! I have my MOST IMPORTANT RACE OF THE YEAR on Sunday!! I'm running the Seattle Hot Chocolate 15K with my superstar 10-year-old daughter -- all her choice (I just paid the entry fees and told her I'd get her prepared). She has trained well and is ready to rock this course. Well, she's actually a little lot nervous as she cut her last scheduled long run short this Sunday due to a head cold and a wipe-out resulting in a skinned knee. Instead of the planned 8, she did 6.5, which I assured her was PLENTY. We do run/walk (we did 5 min/1 min for our 7-miler a week and a half ago) and she always finishes up ready to smash the last mile. So my goal as her Number One Fan and Running Partner is to get her to push a little earlier on. If she's up for it, we'll aim for 6/1. I'll have nutrition for her (orange honey stinger chewies) and we'll use water on course (plus I'll carry a small bottle for in-between stations). Sweet thing is missing one of the year's top birthday sleepovers due to her race -- proud of her discipline. And she doesn't know it, but her 5th-grade teacher is going to be there to cheer her on at the finish. It's going to be an AWESOME day!!! Favorite gadget is for sure my Garmin 310XT. Love love love love it!!! Second favorite are my Mountain Hardware Monkey Fleece jackets for post-training fuzzy warmth. |

I have been running in CW-X compression pants in the winter and shorts in the Summer for years, long before compression gear was really popular. I also have a pair of CW-X compression socks. I really don't think they do diddly for performance, but I hope maybe they keep my muscles looser longer. Plus when everything is compressed I just look better! |

I think both are incredibly valuable training tools. Side note, we're heading back home to the land of Dino tonight. I should be in snow and cold weather by 4pm CST tomorrow. Oh yeah. |

I was thinking about doing the Mooloolaba tri - they've released entries handed back by the tri travel companies - but I think I'd be better off getting my long bike and run done that weekend. Best gadget is definitely my 310xt but I'm also loving using my KK Road Machine with Trainer road. |

Congratulations to all of you! That's wonderful! I'm swimming in a masters meet this weekend. My main event at this one is the mile. Favorite gear = Icebreaker wool running tops. They keep me warm in any kind of crazy Midwestern winter weather, including freezing rain, 40 mph winds, and run-of-the-mill bitter cold. And they have thumb holes! |

First, I may have missed this posting, but our very own Linda (Terps) knocked her 10M race out of the park last weekend! I predict a stellar marathon for her in the very near future. Second, for all of our racers remember to stay strong from the moment you start to the moment you finish. When you feel like crap just remember you trained hard for this moment and it's yours to own. Third, I have a PSA and a request. One of our very good friends who is a mere 33 years old had a stroke yesterday. He was in Chicago on biz and was very ill and lost feeling in his legs. He was rushed to the hospital, transported via med flight to a different one and remains in the ICU with a torn artery and blood clot in his neck. The doctor's believe it may have been due to chiropractic adjustments. Apparently they see this quite a bit. Now it's time to wait to see if the clot will resolve with blood thinners. Prayers for him if that is your thing. |
