Race clock question.     One nice thing to me about the mass start is that if there are many "race clocks"  on the bike/run courses I won't have to keep track of that or do any math while biking/running (heh)    so I guess I'm wondering how many they typically have?   and how far apart they are?

I would love to see the elapsed time along the way ya know?     I don't want to be fumbling around with yet another watch or whatever.

Swim:  One clock is at the swim enter/exit.

Bike:  One clock MIGHT be on a SAG vehicle, but, one clock with a timing mat is in Verona, just outside the H.S. (about 2 miles before the start of the 2nd loop.  This is where you come flying through, trying to look impressive and speedy ).  If you are a bottom MOPper or BOPper, then you will see that clock once since Mike Reilly is there announcing to the spectators, and then he leaves back to the Monona Terrace to catch the pros at the bike dismount, where the last bike clock is located.

Run:  Main clock is at the Finish Line (and you will see it on the way out).  The next clock is at around mile 10, at the far end of the Lakefront path behind the UW Hospital area.

Hi All

For those who ordered tracking devices from MYATHLETE, I just received an email that they are experiencing issues related to Irene so shipping will be delayed.  They will not be shipping units out until 9/6 with the goal of having them arrive on 9/9.  If you ordered one and did not get the email, I suggest you contact them and include your invoice #.  It seems all of their systems are currently down.

Suzy

Just wanted to chime in - I used a MYATHLETE GPS for Louisville Sunday... if your spectators have an iPad it works on the iPad so much better than the iPhone. That is what my cheerleaders told me anyway. They said it seemed to work very well - the icon changes when you are stopped vs. moving, but the iPhone user did not see that. The iPhone user also did not see the pre-loaded course on his screen; could only see where I was at that time. Seems iPad and desk computer users could see the course pre-laid out on Google so they knew where I was going, as opposed to just where I was currently. Useful if your people aren't familiar with the course.

Only one glitch where it looked like I was stopped for 5+ minutes on the run but I wasn't (at least I don't remember stopping for that long LOL!) -then it caught back up with me.

Mine did fall out of the pouch on the run once, so just be aware of the bouncing and movement. I had to tighten up my race belt on the run so it wouldn't bounce so much.

EDIT: GAWD I am excited for you all! I am halfway thinking of flying up there again if I can find a super discounted airfare. I have been at IMWI for 3 years in a row, would be a shame for me not to be there this year!

Just wanted to emphasize to keep an eye on it and make sure it's secure during the run.  I had mine bounce out shortly after starting the run last year and I did not notice it until later on.  So aside from everyone who was tracking me freaking out because it looked like I had stopped I was also unable to locate it the next morning and had to pay a hefty price for it.  Aside for that it worked great!

So how did you guys secure it during the run?  I saw they're apparently sending a separate race belt to which it attaches.  I'd hate to carry that belt, as I already have one race belt for my bib & gels.  Can i just wrap the thing in tape and attach it to my own race belt?

And any more word on the possible delay of shipments due to the hurricane?  I sent an e-mail and have yet to hear back.

I have used these a couple of times in the past, and actually have had the little pouch they use to attach it to the race belt fail... that being said, the pouch can be pulled off and attached to your race belt... it has a little loop on the back.  (assuming you are using a race belt for your number)

I stuck the GPS in my side pocket of my tri top last year and it worked well.  Zero bouncing.  I tested it on my race belt and didn't like it at all.

I did hear back from them again last night.  Apparently if you did a week rental you should get it this weekend via USPS.  If you did a daily (which I did) you should receive it next Friday or Saturday. What email address did you use?  I used the one on the site and they were extremely responsive.

Yep I pulled the pouch off their race belt and just attached it to my own (blue did not match my outfit Kiss). Their pouch closes with a tiny strip of velcro, which seemed to be the culprit when mine fell out.

I would experiment when you get there - try a few different things and see which one you like best. You can even test out the tracking with your friends/family as soon as you get your hands on it.

Crud, I just found out today that I'm not going to be able to make the race to volunteer.  dang work.  grr

So, My son and I are signed up for the last shift catching and my wife is signed up for the last shift finish line medals.  Before I just go drop our volunteer registrations do any BT'ers want to coordinate me dropping them so you can pick up some primo finish line spots? Let me know if you're interested.  If I don't hear from anyone I'll just drop them tomorrow.

so 2 catcher spots and 1 medals spot.

Based on the predicted overnight lows for the next week in Madison, I think you can expect a wetsuit-legal swim.

I'd like to join up for the swim around 7ish on Friday. I'll get to Madison sometime Thursday afternoon, I hope. Is the swim entry point pretty obvious if you haven't really scouted the area yet?

What time are you swimming?  I was going to go early, but it's picture day.  Rob doesn't do hair.  I think I have to get her ready.  She wants an owl ponytail holder in with owl clips in.
