Its real time on a separate website.   If you dont' mind waiting for updates hours apart that are frequently posted and hour or 2 after crossing the timing mat then ironman live will work great.  If you have someone with you wanting to catch you at a turn around or finish line I would not depend on ironman live.  THere are onl 2 timing mats on the bike i think and on the run there is one at in the statepark you go over on each loop and one at the 1/2 way point

thanks for the answers, ladies.  it sounds like the athlete tracker may be better option, particularly for folks who are going to be spectating at the race venue.

as for the wetsuit question, I'm going with a full.

Here's another question...Where are the special needs locations on the run and bike? Are they at the half-way point of each or further towards the end of each leg?

They are almost EXACTLY halfway on both counts.

As for registration, just get there REALLY early on Thursday.  I got in line at 9-ish on Thursday...it was so slow that I had to get out 1.5 hours later to go do an interview.  Went back after my interview and spent another few hours in line.  But the line only got worse as the day went on...so....just get in it EARLY.  Or send your SO to hold your spot so you can sit down somewhere else....

There are now three timing mats on the bike because they added that little out and back section halfway down 79 on the way back home.  I think the splits were 55, 40 and 17 miles last year.

I signed up to use Tri Bike Transport, this will be my first time but I've heard good things from other folks who have used them in the past.

Ill be sporting a full wetsuit.  Just upped to a blue seventy wetsuit, tried at Augusta and loved it.  Barely any water in the suit while I swam.  Much better fit than my last suit.

Recovery week for me.  Ill try to get in a few mid grade workouts where I can, but nothing long.  Duane, I would kill for that 50y pool.  Had a 33y lap pool at Disney earlier this year and it was great.  Im not a flip turn specialist yet so the fewer turns to make the better.

There are BP stations at intersections of 79/20 and 20/77.   There may be another stop on 77 South but I can't say for sure.  The 2 BP's are plenty.

I rode the course on Saturday.  Other than the NE wind (20+ mph), it was great.

Enjoy the ride.

The one thing I wish the WTC would do is do like a video of each course like they do with the Rev3tri series. I would like to see the bike course on video.

Its seriously NOT that exciting.  There is a bridge you go over twice which I believe is the biggest climb on the course.  There are some rolling hills.  There is an out and back section with REALLY crappy road.  There is an out and back with some really GOOD road.  It can be super windy along front beach road....and the wind whips off the beach.  Where there are buildings with parking under them it can become a wind tunnel.  Lots of empty road and trees is what you will see.  Thats about it.  Then again I am one of those people who NEVER drives the bike course because 1-I can't change it 2- there are always PLENTY of people in frontof me to follow 3-I don't want to spend a lot of time in the car esp not 112 miles

Bridge on 79, little burner on Blue Springs road, 2-3 rollers on Hwy 20 east of 77.  Those are your hills.  everything else is flat or a false flat.  I ride some portion of this course almost every weekend.  The out and back on 388 is a bit rough not horrible but not slick as ice.  Chances are anything you have riden is tougher than this course.  I did IM Louisville back in August.  The hills on that course might as well have been the Swiss Alps to me.  This course is nothing to worry about.  The wind coming back through the condos can be a bear.  Treat them like a hill, just sit and spin.  After all this is Ironman.

Should you predict a better/same/slower time on the swim leg based on your easy pace at the pool? (Better because wetsuit, draft, salty water: worst because congestion/not straight line)

Someone with experience how can compare the IMFL swim time with your easy pace at the pool?

I am in the 2 min/100 mts pace at the pool (when doing 4k)

Is that flat chip seal? Flat with cracks through it? Any rumble strips?

I agree with the request for video and I am very, VERY glad of the pics we've got. I'm thinking I'm going to start driving courses a month or so before races near me and posting the videos for people who want to preview the courses.

Changed my saddle out to a Adamo split seat. Unbelievable difference. I should have done this a long time ago. Now I feel confident that I can go the distance in a tri suit vs having to do a full change to a full pad.

Has anyone ever been seasick at this Ironman? I heard the waves can get pretty big. I do get seasick but not sure how Dramamine would effect my performance. Any insight would be appreciated.

The pool just adjacent to the Swan is where I swam in April.  Only about 4 ft deep I think.  Maybe 5-6 lanes.  Perfect time was dinner when all families were lined up for the restaurants.

I have and thank you but I am visual person. One person says hill( to one person big and others not so much) and others say rollers and I like to compare what I have here.

Example when someone on here (BT) said that New Orleans is flat and fast  and some rollers BUT when you did the race there where some steep bridges to cross over and some people where walking there bikes up going up on there way back to T2. I guess since this is my first Full IM I just want to be prepared. I am  ready for the swim and run is going to be what it is on the day ,just doubts on the bike how to approach it. Not going for time just to finish and enjoy my first one.

Yup. I was giving people who don't realize what good a good ride report and a good video (or at least darn good pics) can do for a person for pre-race confidence about knowing what the course has in store.

Going to give this a bump and hope for an answer as I am in the same time frame as you. I actually have that swim this morning. Usually have held that pace on alll my other long swims.

I just changed to the Adamo TT last week and am so glad that I did. I have been working with different seats all summer and was in pain the whole time. With the Adamo it is MUCH better. Just have to get the sit bones in shape.

Dunno about FL specifically but I believe I've done enough long courses to have an idea.

Dead flat water the general speed is about 10 seconds per 100 slower than your pool time.
The wetsuit generally makes you about 10 seconds per 100 faster than without.
If it's just a standard surf you're going to be a bit slower than that so make it another 10 seconds per 100 slower.

What this means is I tend to end up about 10-15 seconds per hundred slower in any water with a current wearing a wetsuit than my per hundreds in the pool.

Your findings will probably be different but if you want something to hang your hat on, that's what I've found about me.
