A bit random... but made me think of this... I met a lady in a workout class the other week who said she had gained a lot of weight because she broke her wrist. And all I thought was, "that shouldn't keep you from doing cardio at the gym, etc." Trust me, I said nothing. But a broken wrist to me doesn't mean you sit on your rear till it heals. Just means you don't do workouts with that arm.

I've heard that before too... just because ONE part is hurt, doesn't mean you have to sit on your a$$ until that ONE part is healed... though written with the caveat that if that one part happens to affect a lot of other parts, you could have a pretty good reason to sit on your butt for a little bit.

What's the worst that could happen?   She gets offended and doesn't come back to you?

She gives me a bad evaluation it goes on some random website and I don't get more pts or worse medicare dings me for not being perfect.  I kid you not if you do not get PERFECT scores on medicare they ding you.  Its impossible. She is impossible.

And just to be more of a ray of sunshine in the medical world......they are about to switch us from ICD-9 codes to ICD-10 codes.  These are diagnosis codes.  An ankle sprain is not ankle sprain its 845.00  Mostly I think so they have a reason to not pay us.  As evidence insurance companies are telling docs to take out a loan to cover their expenses for 3 months because they will not get paid when ICD-10 goes into effect because they haven't updated their systems.  Its only been coming down the  pike for about 4 years now.  Just a reason to NOT PAY and argue about it.

I do not envy your profession at all.

You're surrounded on all sides with having to put up with other people's self-serving crap.... not sure I could find enough in it to keep it feeling worthwhile.

When I had my bike crash, I shattered the wrist and broke the collarbone (plates on all)... I couldn't even  jog slowly for about 4-5 weeks because the jostling motion was just plain uncomfortable.  By week 8, however, I was back in the gym lifting, so it was definitely temporary... and not long enough to gain significant weight.

FYI: I lLOVE my orthopedists! It's fascinating science and, at the end of it all, surgery usually works and fixes it once and for all. The 2 Achilles reconstructions I had done have been almost life changing.

But I totally see how people can be whiners about it. I think they need a dose of education about how long and how difficult rehab is.

i'm with you - the dentist is my least favorite of all doctors to visit.  i get panic attacks about a cleaning!  luckily i've been cavity-free for almost 5 years now so the visits have become less traumatic...

Me too. Theres nothing worse than the dentist. A week ago I had a piece of an old filling break off from the back upper left tooth. Twice they tried to just patch it and twice it fell out. They told me if it didn't hold the third time they'd have to drill out the old filling and put a whole new one in. On top of that they warned me it may not be pretty what they find under the old filling. Between the left half of my head being numb and being inclined at a slightly vertical angle so they could get a better angle at the tooth, and the water pooling at the back of my mouth from the drill, BLACHHH. Not very pleasant.

Going to the dentist is like an isometrics workout for me.  I stay catatonically tense the whole time.  Even my toes are curled up so tight they get sore.

JWKMH is at the dentist as we speak.

I should go to the dentist. It's been a while.

I think I'll wait until June when I'm full-time Army again though

I was just reading up on natural ways to get rid of tartar... apparently magnesium oil and oil of oregano (diluted) will soften and break it up easily. Allegedly no reason to have a cranky assistant punch your gums with a sharp tool repeatedly. I'm intrigued. I will report back!

Same, I actually start to sweat a little.

I just went.  Sad news, I require a deeper cleaning.  I need to go back in a month, get numbed up, and do it all over again.  I hate that damn gum check with the needle - ouchie...  They like 3 or less, I'm at 4's...  Damn...

Oooh, definitely report back on this.  I've always wondered about something like this.... there HAS to be a better way than chipping, grinding and scraping with steel.

My work is going through one of those "weird" phases.

People quitting, new hired maybe getting more money that old veterans just to get them in the door.  Lot's of closed door meetings in a "open door" office.  Work load is light, but a tidal wave is expected.  So we are all buckling in and waiting for it.  Meanwhile, my old company is wooing me to come back.  I would love to go back but I'm also loyal and this place has been good too (but again, been weird for a month).

Stressful, to be honest.  Better stress than NOT have a job or options though.

Sigh. TAN, there's a new chapter in my ongoing saga.

The harasser has resorted to anonymous means of harassment. Like, a complaint to animal control. And, yes, I'm certain it was from him and not a legit call.

Pretty sure my mom is one more incident away from driving out here, picking me up, and moving me home.

A chemical solution?  Interesting.  My dentist used water jets and follows up with lasers (if you pay extra - and it's NOT whitening, I asked).  No scraping.  They also said NO MORE WHITENING TOOTHPASTE.  The abrasives in them removes enamel over the long haul.

I guess it's just crazy, and no explanation will suffice.  Not sure what the goal is.  I guess if it's to make your life a hell, he's winning.  But wouldn't you want to see the results of your actions?  He can't see what doing any of this does to you - it's just in his imagination.

It's like dropping a bomb.  Wouldn't you want to go see what it did?  Not just press a button and assume what it did and never go look...

It's just weird to me.  I'm a bit surprised he hasn't gotten on BT - or does he not know about it?

He doesn't know about it... yet.

I'm just constantly waiting for what's next. It's obnoxious.

Lucky for me, the animal control people were very nice - and said in order for anything to come out of the complaint, the person who filed it needs to complain at least 1 more time, show evidence and show up in court (if it escalates that far). If he were to show up in court and follow up on the complaint, he'd have to be near my house to collect "evidence" of my dog barking all day and being left alone for long periods of time. This would be him admitting in court to being near my house, which is a violation of the restraining order.

I'm hoping that just ignoring him will make him eventually give up. I mean, that's what I was taught in grade school when I was bullied.

I am so sorry.  I have had a couple stalkers but changing phone #, blocking phone # a police report and a well worded letter from an atty have made them back off.   These people are control freaks typically.  And WAY too much time on their hands.  I hope it works out safely for you Elaine.  You have our sympathies for sure.

That seems the "normal" approach.  If you don't show it bothers you, then he will get bored.  That's was sane people think.  But again, maybe he need attention SO much, that it escalate until he gets a response?  Again, no predicting crazy.

Yeah, I wouldn't worry about the dog thing.  Just aggravating to get the letter like you did something wrong and have to deal with it.  As long as you follow up with them nicely, it shouldn't be an issue..  I had a dog problem once.  The first call just went into a file, a second may warrant a visit from them with a note on the door.  A third may have been a police visit.  I also think they would have like OTHER neighbors to complain.  Also, during ONE of those visits, they had to witness the problem.  I'm sure the protocol changes slightly, but their can't be a witch hunt for animals - there has to be proof of a problem.

I'm sure this is a one and done IF he finds out what he needs to do next to escalate.

Do you look up and down the street when you come/go?  Thought about cameras or security system if you don't have them?

Again, at a different level.  But this is like vandalism.  They get momentary joy from doing something that takes seconds out of their day, but screws you up for hours.  He could be going about his day and say "oh, time to make the call to animal control"  BOOM, 60 seconds later, he's back to work without a second thought.  You, however, have to clean it up for 10-15 minutes or longer.  Fines, paper trails.

Kid takes 3 seconds to run a key down the side of your car then goes about their day?  You are out of a car for days and $500.  They don't hang out to see the result of their work - they just move on and leave the mess for someone else.  SOOOO aggravating to me.  In a way, I would rather have a computer taken from my car.  At least they can use it or sell it.  Yeah, I have to pay to get a new one.  But vandalism or something like this?  They get NOTHING out of it and you STILL have to do all the work.  Shoot!   At least get something out of doing a crime if you are going to do it!
