I was supposed to swim today but I'm terrified that I tore my muscles or ligaments so I aborted. Crappy luck! I've been training for a whole year for this event and managed to stay injury free and nine days away I hurt myself... I pray for recovery, and a fast one. I feel for you...while at work yesterday I was lifting an overweight patient up in bed and I pulled a muscle in my lower left back. It's pretty sore this morning and the pain is sharp. I am going to try to a massage therapist today to see if that helps and then maybe hit the hot tub at the Y. Evillarroel...how's your back doing?? |

Extreme Veteran 710 Wilmington, NC | Subject: RE: Ironman Arizona : Official Thread molly@rosenblumlawlv - 2009-11-14 9:57 PM For those of you doing it can you please explain the Janus CHarity Challenge? The Janus Charity Challenge is just where you raise money for a charity as part of your IM journey. Lot so people to do IM's for different reasons and some do it in honor or in memory of others and raise money along the way. You choose the charity and Janus provides you with a website and the tools to obtain your fundraising goals! It's been fun! My hubby and I have been raising money for the American Heart Association and have been doing all sorts of fun things along the way to raise money. Earlier this year before a local HIM we challenged our friends to donate...if we reached our goal (which we did) my hubby Scott volunteered to not only shave his head in a mohawk but to die it pink and do the HIM while wearing a skirt! It was awesome! Edited by canadarn2001 2009-11-16 5:14 AM |

They will not know if you are there or not - but it is a good info/movie/meet a pro and share stories dinner. I would go if I were you PJ, but to each their own. |

Elite 3495 SE | Subject: RE: Ironman Arizona : Official Thread Hope that you all get well in time for the dance! Too close to the end for bad things to happen. I was told about a guy (perhaps on this thread) who injured himself (i.e., separated shoulder) the day before IMAZ getting out of the water. Apparently its pretty treacherous. Extreme Veteran 357 Ft. Myers, Florida | Subject: RE: Ironman Arizona : Official Thread Ouch. The water is down to 65 degrees this morning. Does anyone know what the reasoning is for not allowing neoprene booties? I know the athlete's guide says they aren't allowed but if you do wear them is it just like having worn your wetsuit in a non-wetsuit legal race? I'm certainly not going to be in the hunt for a Kona or podium spot so if that's all I lose by wearing them then I may consider it. I have serious issues with the cold. |

Extreme Veteran 483 Pacific NW | Subject: RE: Ironman Arizona : Official Thread A tip I picked up while spectating last year -- After changing into your wetsuit, but before entering the water, wear an old pair of socks on your feet and another old pair on your hand as gloves. This might help keep you a tad bit warmer a little longer. Just ditch them right before entering the water. The warmest OWS I've had in a race is 68. The coldest was upper 50s. The coldest in training - 48...with a sleeveless. I guess this is one instance where my extra "fluffy" will come in handy. |

I'm certainly not going to be in the hunt for a Kona or podium spot so if that's all I lose by wearing them then I may consider it. I have serious issues with the cold. They provide a bit of a flipper effect and are only allowed if the water temps are REALLY cold. I don't like the cold either, but I swam this Saturday out at Lake Saguaro and it was actually fine. Tempe Town Lake is pretty comparable. Now, it's freezing here this am but is warming up this week, so the Lake temps will likley stay in the mid 60's. Race morning does look like 47 degrees air temp, so that will suck, especially on the start of the bike. The water temp will be so much warmer, it will feel good to get into the lake as opposed to shivering at the shore line. But, it will warm up to low 70's and doesn't look too windy...yet. I'm not sure what kind of penalty wearing booties might be, but I wouldn't do that if I were you, regardless of what you are shooting for. It's a race rule and should be adhered to.
