i actually DID know that fact and have checked it.  you have to be kind of loose on defining where your forearm begins and ends, but it's certainly true!

I knew that as well.  I don't think it's spot on, but close.

Also, from the heel of you Palm to your elbow is very close to your hip width. Useful for sizing up pants in the store.

Well here, the weather is going to take a turn for the cooler. Day time highs will dip from 90 to about 80. A bike ride Saturday and a run Sunday on exersize front. Some strolling tapas and vino tonight on the relaxation front. Maybe a movie tomorrow night. And in case no one was aware mine starts in T minus 90 minutes...

Nearly nothing - and it feels amazing!

I've got a reverse brick, but that's about all I have planned.

T.G.I.F - very rough week.

From a workout perspective, 11 mile run, and maybe a little ride along the lakefront tomorrow. Softball game on Sunday (does that count, since it's a social league, and we drink during the game?).

Socially - Pumpkin Fest (http://www.brownstonetavern.com/event-1) tomorrow evening, then watching the Bears game Sunday afternoon at our softball sponsor bar. I LOVE SUNDAYS IN THE FALL.

Doing another 70.3, but it's not a REAL one, so it won't be as tough.

If you learn how to track stand, share the knowledge.  I worked on that for a while with no luck.

Well, I'm a wuss compared to the TAN workout gods...

Me?  Probably hit some golf balls for fun, make another batch of home brew, DRINK my previous batch of home brew, watch some football (GO DENVER!).  Catch up on some TV shows (Strike Back and Survivor) Maybe do some grilling.  I'm going to make some pumpkin bread.  Probably clean the house a bit tonight.  Since it's finally cool (if 70'2-80's is cool), I sort of feel like a trail run just to get out into nature.  Pretty boring stuff, I know.

Sounds lovely! MMMM pumpkin bread sounds delicious.

I found an easy low carb dessert yesterday if anyone else wants to try. Take a single serve container of Fage Greek Yogurt (2% fat, plain) and add sugar free Jello powder to it (1/3 package? 1/2? not sure exactly how much, I just eyeballed it). I'm sure there's ingredients in the Jello powder that will kill me, but it's freaking amazing with only a few carbs and tons of protein. I had butterscotch last night and could only eat 1/2 the container of yogurt.

I was thinking the same thing regarding workouts, although I am going for a 12 mile run tomorrow as my last big run before my first HM which is in two weeks.  Sunday is my usual big run day however a couple good friends are getting married tomorrow and the reception and after-party are likely to be epic so there is no way I'm getting up early on Sunday.  At most I'll drag myself down to the local sports bar for a late breakfast and watch the early NFL games.

Sounds like a great weekend, to me.   I've done WAY too much racing this year, and one of the things I've missed as a result is a chance to get out and golf.   I'm really looking forward to the end of my season so that I can finally just relax for a few weeks in a row.

Will do. I'm sure to learn something, since my handling skills aren't awesome. I mean, I can ride straight and drink from my water bottle, but that's about where I hit my limit.

ETA: I can drink with my RIGHT hand. Not my left. Haha.

I'm sort of the same.  I prefer my right.  I'll even grab from the left then hold it with my teeth and switch hands.  NO WAY can I take both hands off my bike.  I think it may be such a high center of gravity because I could go no hands all day when I was a kid.  I try it now?  I get the wobbles in half a second.

Looks like you MTB.  For me, a month of riding my MTB helps a LOT with handling for me.  I get on my road bike and feel like I can do anything on it after a month on the trails.  But after a month of smooth, straight roads again where you don't HAVE to really control it, I lose it.

I'm testing out my friend's wife's MTB this weekend! Super excited, because mine is a POS (like, shocks don't really work). I may actually fall in love with MTBing... we'll see.

I never really got the whole "the correct number of bikes to own is N+1" thing until recently.   I started off buying a TT bike, then I built (and rebuilt) a road bike.  Half the summer long, I had my girlfriend telling me to try MTB, and lately I've been getting an itch to try CX..... I can't afford all of the bikes I want to buy!

I think it's mostly loving the ones you have then "needing" the right tool for new jobs.

I have my old Cannondale MTB.  It's a 96!  Almost 20 years old.  No reason to keep it, but breaks my heart to sell it.  Got the NEW Full suspension.  But then I thought hard tail would be cool.  Got the TT bike of course for try, then wanted a road for groups.  No a SS or fixie sounds like fun.  Looking into cyclecross.

I may think that one of each style for me would work.  If I got a new carbon road bike, I would ditch the alu.  OTOH, that doesn't jive with why I have a 20 yr old MTB still.  Other than the fact it was my first and selling it would get me about 50 bucks, but it's worth a WHOLE lot more to me than 3 martinis or a tank of gas.

I wonder if I could give it to a good cause?  (not just dump it at goodwill).  It would still be sad to ditch it, but I haven't ridding it in 5+ years and probably never will.

I also have a couple old sets of golf clubs I should just toss...  But again, stupid to just throw them away, but selling gets you lunch at McDonald's and that's about it.

ETA:  Thanks for bringing up the subject.  I have been telling myself to look for a cross bike this week but kept forgetting.

By the way, today was a total TAN fail.  Everybody talking about using body parts to measure other body parts and there wasn't even one bit of innuendo in any posts.

There's a halfway house for kids at risk who have a fleet of bikes. These are kids in emergency situations transitioning into foster care. They have lots of bikes like your hardtail in the fleet. The kids ride the hell out of the bikes. Once a year, I go and overhaul them over the course of a couple of nights.

Maybe see if there's a place near you?

Training our bodies to work efficiently in Zone 2 will help us keep our HR and pace even throughout an Ironman. This theory would hold true for the bike and run portion of an Ironman race.
