As you know, I've done Beach2Battleship twice as a full and once has a half. Monica has done is as a full and has Tony.

Last night, at our tri club party, we were told that our president had been contacted by WTC about a mid-October event in our area.  Our president said something like, I hope that you mean Hilton Head because I'm a bit supporter of the cause that B2B fund raises for and...  It wasn't officially confirmed but it sounded pretty clear that, like Vineman, B2B is going to be a WTC event.

I've been seeing the rumors and was hoping that the were just talk.  Apparently not.

I was hoping the rumors were not true.  B2B is such a great race which reminds me very much like Vineman as a perfect sized alternative to the WTC crowds.  I've never done B2B but have had it on the radar for many years.  I signed up for the half once but couldn't make it because of work commitments.  The last WTC event I did started to ring a bit hollow.  Same feeling I got at last rock n roll event.  Felt like the efforts had shifted from how to put on a great event to how can they squeeze every last dollar out.  I'm not totally negative on WTC but also like to see races with a different vibe.

Too bad.   Is there anything they aren't trying to take over?

Originally posted by Hot Runner No racing this weekend, except racing to get some errands done that I've been neglecting due to finishing coursework and report cards! On the subject of "training races", if you ever want to do something truly ridiculous......try doing a run threshold test in a race that's not quite long enough. That was last weekend at the Terry Fox "Run" here. My coach was all enthused about me doing the test in a "race situation" and that is the only one in the next few months around these parts. Only it's not really a race, just a Vietnamese -style "happening", with 15,000+ (really--I know the organizer, and that's the count) people, 99% of whom walk, mostly as part of corporate "teams" with banners. It IS a race for the maybe 50-60 people, both locals and expats, who are actually runners and duke it out at the front for the chance to say they "won" Terry Fox (a non-race with no age groups, no timers, and no prizes). And, oh yeah, the "5K" is actually a 4.03K. (If it weren't, I would have finally made my youthful goal of sub-17 last week with a smashing 16:53!) Anyway, instructions were basically to "keep going for a few more minutes if you can to finish the test". It may not be a race, but in the eyes of my students and ex-students, many of whom were volunteering at the race, I had just "won" as I crossed the finish line ahead of any other woman and all but maybe five men (not a deep field this year!). They were high-fiving me, but I had to keep running, turned, and went on for almost another km. around the block dodging all these people and motorbikes and trying to keep my HR at 175 without puking in the 90-degree heat. People kept trying to point me back toward the course. They must have wondered who this idiot woman was who managed to get lost on a course with 15,000 people! By the time I finished the 20 minutes I didn't know whether to puke, roll around on the ground laughing, or both. Yes, I have actually rolled on the ground laughing after a race. Maybe this bunch will appreciate it. I'd just run a marathon at altitude (Crater Lake) and finished in 96 degree heat. Actually wasn't feeling that bad, considering. But someone at the finish line was passing out what turned out to be a self-published book about (I think) the Badwater ultra, called, "Marathon and Beyond: Into the Valley of Death". It was just the timing.... I laughed so hard and my legs were rubber away, just fell over and started rolling!

This whole thing made me laugh out loud.

Spent 15 hours with a friend's parade float because she left most of the construction and decoration to the last minute. Yesterday, the parade line-up started at 3:30...float was leaving her driveway at 4 and I still had kids to get ready to be on it. Really hectic! I had fun walking with the float and watching the kids (parade rules), but was pretty over it by 8pm. On the bright side, there should only be some adjustments and finishing details when she uses the float next year.

So, besides working on the float, we ran about 7mi on the mountain with the PureGrits yesterday morning. I wore them to the gym twice and around the house to break them in a bit, but I'm sending them back for the Cascadias. Even snugged in, the heels rubbed on both sides in the same spot so that I had blisters starting by about mile 5. I put on my Cascadia8s for the 3mi parade walk and my heels were happy. Not going to argue with them.

And we bought our Costa Rica tickets for March. woohoo!

Hey Chris, you know I was thinking about your action camera discussion.

When decided to make the  transition from a designer to a project manager who deals with more technical stuff I knew that I would have to fill a little bit of the creativity void, as it is something that is really important to me. I made a personal goal to post a photo a day on Instagram as a creative outlet. What I found as I (for the most part) have been pretty consistent with this goal is that it actually forced me to go cool places to be able to post photos that were worthy and interesting (to me.)  As you said I don't want to look back at and see a bunch of of photos of me sitting at my desk or taking the garbage out. So, in a really obscure way it's kind of pushed me to make a little more of my free time.

Very cool! I could totally do that.

I'm actually getting ready to start another project. I'd like to do one every couple of months or so. I could see myself really getting into this woodwork thing.

I think it's beautiful...and would love it as a functional art piece. How long did your table take?Check out this AZ company. It's a small business J has visited for work. He was really impressed with their pieces. Super expensive and custom, but he said when they're finished the wood feels like soft leather and it glows. http://westernheritagefurniture.com/

Yep. People around here were not thrilled when they took Soma. A 70.3 used-to-be-local "tune up" for IMAZ suddenly price jumped and now has the same feel (both brand and course route)...only 4 weeks apart.

Hahaha....update on that float ordeal. It won the "Most Humorous" category. Commented to her that I didn't know if I found it funny or not. My humor may have been lost on her.

Costa Rica. J's sister moved down there (with DH and son) for the year to "regroup". We're going to hang out for a week in mid March. Should be lots of fun (tropical version of sun, sand, trails, lizards), and kids are super excited. Plus, we got a great deal on tix $420 r/t.

I was cheering for Miriam too because I wanted her to finish, not only in her own right but because then Yanti wouldn't have to say she was the last official finisher. (Although maybe it would have been worth it if the prize was a kiss from Luke MacKenzie or something.....wait....she's married now. Must be the cougar in me projecting.....)

Funny you bring this up, guess what Amazon Prime delivered yesterday? After a bunch of back and forth, we ended up with a Polaroid, which was about $150. That is more than 1/2 of a GoPro and Steve's words resonated with me.  I really didn't want to go all in on something I'll use on occasion.  But it will be kinda nice to have it and play around a bit.  Look for some WDW campground soon. We leave tomorrow and will have our bikes for a night tour. People staying in the campground go nuts on the decorations. And you can't go wrong with Bailey's in hot cocoa and s'mores at a sing-along campfire, can you? It'll be a fun, albeit short trip. Oh yeah, it ends with a trip through the Tree-Umph Adventure Course.  In the very least, we'll get some camera testing in.
