just wanted to mention that Ive re-gone through the entire thread for IMFL here from page one.... wayyyyyyy long ago it seems that we were all saying "im in for 2011!" and talking about our upcoming training plans for this race.  cant believe it is so close now.  time has flown by this past year.  Its amazing to me how through the determination and craziness of the the training schedule, I have just now started to realize what i have actually been doing over the past 20 wks.  a year ago, a 100mi bike ride seemed a lofty goal - as was a 13 mi run or a 2.5 mi swim.  to now do these from one day to the next and just get up and do them and not think twice about them amazes me.

just visited john at racers edge in boca for the final bike tune up.  he asked me how i was feeling about the race.... i told him i couldnt wait... im excited to get things rolling.

juuuust a few more days with one more ridiculous sunday workout and its taper time

Yep, one more long bike this weekend and another long run early next week and then taper city.  I feel a little undertrained, but that's personal I guess. I'm sure I've trained more than some and less than others. I have a goal time and I think (hope) I will hit it.  I do hope to finish ahead of two of my my brothers that are racing...lotsa bragging rights at stake here.  We'll see.

Overall I haven't enjoyed the last few weeks of training.  With family, work, school, and training to juggle it has become a complete grind. I'm over it. Don't get me wrong, I'm really looking forward to the race, super excited and can hardly believe I will (possibly, ya never know) be completing the distance. But I am really looking forward to being done with this IM training stuff.  I'll stick to sprints, oly's and half distance races after this.

Your last paragraph explains everything that is going on in my life and I feel you 100%

It may sound crazy now, but I bet in 3 months, we'll be missing our crazy workouts

Kathy, what is the benefit of deleting the history? battery life? or will the satellite link come on line quicker? I have the Garmin 305.

I have a long swim and quickie run on sat, and long bike and quickie run brick on sunday

Have you ever been on a ride/run and seen "memory full. No further updates will be saved until you remove old data" or similar? Would you like that to happen during an IM where you want all the data after the race? It's a cheap insurance thing.

yeah i'd hate that BAAAAADDDDDD......thx for the heads up guys

Hang in there, tomorrow is another day.  In '09 I was training for IMFL and felt the same way you do today.  I adopted the motto "one and done" to get me thorugh the last weeks of training.  BUT As soon as I crossed the finish line I started figuring out where I could improve and trying to fit time into the family schedule to make it happen again.  Well, I'll be at the finish line this year cheering you on...and signing up for next year.

Probably last ows in MA this season today....water temps dropped to 60 near the shore over 4 days windy and wavy.

Plan to bike and walk today as well. Pushing my long bike to a school day next week so I can spend time with my family as my husband is traveling most all month.

3 weeks from today I'll be biking and that for me is super fun in IM!

Last long ride. 5:31.

Was averaging 19.9 for the first 62 miles then hit that 25 knot sustained headwind and ended up with an 18.2 average for 100 and change. THAT was a workout.

Constant "I've done this ride for XX years and have NEVER felt wind like that."

I'm tired. I figure that was good training for the last part of the IMFL bike course

Hey Dan - I hear you.  That was brutal today.  I was absolutely cruising at 21.5mph until the rest stop then it all went south (well West actually - into that wind).  Lost my riding buddy in some confusion at the Assateague rest stop and then had to knuckle down for the last 40 miles.  Boy I felt it !  Let's hope that Florida doesn't hit us like that wind today.  (And at least in 3 weeks time there won't be the snarls of the roadies as we go by - right ?!)

1.5 mile swim, Rode 70 miles on the flattest road I could find by my house in Madison WI - winds were outrageous was riding almost 35 with the wind and 10 against it, 1 1/2 hour run. I still have 2 more weeks of training and I only taper race week this time.  Excited for the race !

So close in distance your workout was to mine today.  I am in the all 3 back to back mode right now mixing up the distances.  You mentioned tapering in the last week.. That's what I always did for a stand alone marathon.  Can you give me some insite to your workout plans for the next 2 weeks. I want to be sure I am as ready as I can be.  I have always personally designed my own regiments and like to hear others..

Light week for me this week.  Luckily was on call, but hit all major workouts.  That is rare for call week.  Pain cave smacked me tonight, and I didn't appreciate that.  Planning a two to two.5 hour run tomorrow.

Next week will be lots of volume and planning the super brick for Sunday.  A buddy of mine and I will do 1.5mile swim, 80 bike and 18 mile run.  All spaced out over the day with plenty to eat breaks.  Not intending to do immediate out of water to bike or off bike to run.  That will be last big workout and then fingers crossed will be enough.  Will probably guilt myself to doing  something else the last weekend but hoping to keep it to taper length.

Once race guide came out, I knew it was getting close to go time.  That really brings it home.  Need to get bike to shop next week, warm up new shoes and get all supplies ready -- thanks for super posts about transition bags, it helps a ton for the first timer.

Going to try for some golf after bike check in Friday.  Something to completely remove my mind from the race and low risk for injury (physical that is, there will be plenty of mental anguish i'm sure).

Getting close guys!

We've got a nice crew volunteering for bodymarking, and a condo right on the run course.  We'll be right before the "girls stop" about 1.5 miles from transition, won't be able to miss our crew on the run as the LSU vs Bama game will either be starting at 2:30 or 4 pm and we'll be doing our best to follow all the action, on course and on the field.

Did a 17 mile run yesterday.  Only the last 4 miles were  miserable but I pushed thru it.  I'm gorssly undertrained on the run but relatively healthy (for me) so thats probbaly more important.  Off to bike long iwth friends this am.  Hoping to get 100 in last LONG ride

Next week I have to travel weds-sun so it will be mostly running for me.  WHY do hotels put stupid usless tiny little pools in?

RE: taper I think my coach has tapered me perfectly for my 4 IMs.  Things will be a little different this year because of my travel during what would be the last biggish week.  He usually does a medium volume week this coming week (less than 3 weeks but more tha 2 weeks out) then the last 10 days or so taper into the race.  I, personally LOVE taper.  Nice to feel rested and get all those things you put off during peak training done.  I'm also the least nervous racer you will ever meet.  Trust the training. Trust your coaches.  You have done teh training and lots of volume right now is only going to make you tired.  Be confident you have done the best training you can for your body and life and enjoy the ride.

OK, I rode the bike course yesterday. Here's what I observed for those who wont see it til race day:

Start to 79-flat w/cross winds (not bad)

79 to 20(Ebro)- flat, had a head wind, good road, maybe false flat?

20 to 77-lots of traffic, cross wind, slight elevation incline, very slight roller or two.

77to388-tailwind & FAST!!!!

388 to 20-you pay for that fast section on 77,slight incline back to 20. worse section of race!

20 to 79- fast w/slight crosswind, a few mild rollers & felt elevation decline-good section!

79 to front beach-Fast,Fast,Fast=tailwind w/ elevation drop. fastest section!

Overall roads are in great shape. Winds could change my report easily. Hwy 20 was a little scary for me being alone (2 lane w/heavy traffic, w/bike lane). Course is by far the flatest ive rode, but i was suprised that the section from 388 back to 20 did slow me down (but i am slow anyway!!!)  I know you have heard it 100's of times, but wind will dictate race day on bike. BTW-the bridge is nothing to worry about-easy spin both ways.

I"m open to questions-headed out to run 1 loop of the run course & pack for home. Roll Tide!!!

Did a Marthon Relay at Dover Speedway.  Set a new PR on the 1/2 marathon that has been standing since 2004!  1:45:11 was 1:50:51.  The Ironman training has definately payed off.

I have a Coach and she sends me training plans weekly, so I can only assume that I will have 2 long swim workouts, 80-100 mile bike followed by a run, a long run probably 2 1/2 hours, in addtion to short bikes 2 hours followed by 40-60 minute run workouts. I will most likely have 1 day off during the week to recover. For Ironman, I generally have a 2 week taper, but my coach said that I will only taper the week of FL, since I just raced IMMO. I had to rest, recover and build for FL leaving race week for my taper.  Nicole

Well...this was supposed to be my biggest (volume wise) week but I had to cut my long ride short today. I had 2.5 hrs swim, 8.5 hrs bike, 2.5 hrs run. Next week is my peak week 2.5-3 hrs swim, 10-11 hr bike and 3 hr run. I am really undertrained for the run but I figure it's better to be healthy than overtrained and injured.
