Extreme Veteran 557 Woodland Hills, CA | Subject: RE: Ironman Arizona : Official Thread My garmin 305 wont last long enough to make it through the bike and run, so I'm going to set up a borrowed bike computer and then put on the 305 for the run. I just want to be able to see current mph on the bike and pace on the run. |

Sunday Wind: From SSE at 5 mph that sounds great! Speaking of weather...lets talk race day clothing. Wetsuit of course...with neoprene hoodie, socks to the start Tri shorts and sleeveless top under I am packing leg/arm warmers and a thin cycling jacket...at 50ish I doubt I will need the leg warmers...but the top pieces maybe (game day decision). Bike SN: Nothing clothing related Run, same outfit Run SN: UnderArmour long sleeve in case the temps drop |

This worked good at the same temperatures for Oceanside April. As others posted, with the cool morning temp the water will actually feel decent for the swim. Bike - Tri top / Desoto 400mile shorts. Long sleeve jersey to start, will figure out where to put it later on. I'm not worried about being too warm on the bike. Run - Long sleeve shirt or arm warmers in special needs and T2. It gets cold fast once the sun goes down at least for those of us used to hot weather. Will decide during the race whether to start the run with the extra stuff or wait until special needs to layer. |

Regular 136 | Subject: RE: Ironman Arizona : Official Thread Quick question. I know most MDOT races sell out within hours if not minutes. How fast does Arizona typically sell out? Did it take longer than a day to sell out last year? Also, around what time does the on-line registration open up? I know to plan on signing up right when they open but I may have an appointment that I can't get out of. Thanks for any information. |

Elite 3495 SE | Subject: RE: Ironman Arizona : Official Thread I would guess it will sell out in a few hours given what just happened with IMFL, its positive Nov. reviews, and its placement during the year. You can always ask or pay someone to do the online entry for you if they have the proper information. Just be careful what they put for your occupation haha. I was watching the streamed IMFL finish on 11/7 and someone was "blankety blanks "sexslave"" that mike reilly (sp?) hollared out. |

I know to plan on signing up right when they open but I may have an appointment that I can't get out of. Thanks for any information. FWIW, IMFL sold out in 2 hours online this year. I was surprised...I think that is one of the faster ones. The site (Click here) says 11am PST for 2010 IMAZ. Unless it's going to sell out in minutes (as in under an hour) sometimes it isn't worth trying to get in right when the online link opens up. Active just crashes and you end up frustrated. In past years IMAZ was not quite so popular as IMFL, but I would still expect it to be popular. I would plan on either having a very good friend sit there right when it opens and register for you, or try as soon as you finish your appointment. I don't recall how quickly it sold out last year. |

Have you guys practiced long swims with the hoodies on? They can rip the crap out of your neck if you are not careful. What is the water temp down to this year? I was totally fine with just a swim cap last year and if you really think you might get cold two swim caps should be enough. |

I was totally fine with just a swim cap last year and if you really think you might get cold two swim caps should be enough. I used the hoodie at the Oceanside half in April. Water temp was ~59 there. Bryancd's intial indications are low 60's for water temp at IMAZ. I'm planning on doing a practice swim on Friday or Saturday morning and finalize the decision but at this point sticking with the hoodie plan. |

Extreme Veteran 419 San Jose, CA | Subject: RE: Ironman Arizona : Official Thread I've done most of my OW swim practices this year in Santa Cruz - temp in the 50s. My last 2 miler there was in 50 degree water. So for me I'm expecting this to feel balmy - especially since the water is hovering around 66 right now and will be about 20 degrees warmer than air temperature at that time. Anyway...clothing for the day: Swim: Wetsuit, sports bra, tri shorts Bike: Bike jersey and bike shorts over the sports bra and tri shorts, maybe arm warmers if I'm feeling like a total weenie Bike SN: no clothiing Run: Tshirt and running shorts Run SN: Long sleeved top but I doubt I will need it - I just don't get cold on the run like that (and I know how the temp will drop after dark but it will only make me more comfortable, not less) and I hate long sleeves. |

Regular 106 SF Bay Area, California | Subject: RE: Ironman Arizona : Official Thread I'm going with the Desoto 400M (2009) shorts under the wetsuit. I have decided to go shirtless under the wetsuit as my tri-top sometimes rubs my arm pits when combined with the wetsuit. I also like putting on a dry shirt if it is going to be cool out anyway. For the bike: sleeveless tri-shirt and 400M shorts, arm warmers if needed. For the run: I will make a call at T2. I will pack both a fresh coolmax short sleeve and long sleeve shirt and running shorts. I will decide in real-time whether or not to change shirts at all or go with one of the warmer options. I'll bet I just change shorts. I know, not the speediest of choices but when you are racing injured, an extra minute or two doesn't seem like a big deal. |

Master 1759 Byhalia, Mississippi | Subject: RE: Ironman Arizona : Official Thread I agree with Brian - Tempe Town lake is murkey already (which probably keeps is bio-warm ()). I used a cap in Idaho but do not even recall if I saw more than a couple last year in Nov or April. |

Extreme Veteran 419 San Jose, CA | Subject: RE: Ironman Arizona : Official Thread Well, like it or not, Ironman is almost here! We took the dogs down to walk around in Tempe tonight and much to my surprise half of IM village is already set up! The stairs into the lake are set up (along with a strong prohibition not to swim outside the designated times or risk disqualification), the bike racks are in place, half the tents are up, the endless rows of portapotties are there. It's almost ready for us!!! |

Elite 3495 SE | Subject: RE: Ironman Arizona : Official Thread I dont think I will have much modesty during this day. Let them pull my shorts off-if they don't I will-I'm changing out of them to get the extra padding haha Take a look at the wind speed graph on this page: http://www.tempe.gov/wx/townlake.aspx This appears to indicate to me that the winds picked up pretty decently midday. You locals may have a better read on this though. I'm still in Ga. until Thursday lunchtime. |
