Oh and we stopped to help someone with a flat today on the road - DH noticed he signaled that he needed help and i  guess he took a pothole - so we helped him out with a tube, some CO2 and a tire lever ... turns out he was here on a work contract from Switzerland - i guess he'll be buying a tire repair kit .... but it was nice to be able to help.

rymac - 2012-05-12 12:26 PM 38:41 this morning at the 10k. Actually had 6.30 on my Garmin. Absolutely thrilled.Short story: ran sub 6:10s thru first 4 miles...then the hills hit...like a ton of bricks...6:15 and 6:19 with a pretty strong finish for last .2. I gave everything I had and it hurt...a lot.

Starting to get some pain in one of me knees.  I don't really notice it running but I notice it walking around.  I'll keep monitoring it I guess.  Hoping maybe the trail running is just causing some stuff to get stretched out or something silly and soon it will be back to normal.

finally settling in here in Payson.  Just planted the garden.   Should get my office setup this weekend and my life back on a normal track, so perhaps I can get back into a regular routine again.  Getting the runs in but that is about it

Had a very busy but rewarding day.  Got in a quick 30 minute ride this morning on the trainer then rode a mile outside just to get a feel for the tri bike.  Handling wise it will take me some time to get used to it.  Then my wife and I did some volunteer work at a halfway house for women.  Handyman type stuff for me while my wife did some hardcore cleaning.  I really enjoy volunteering my time and am trying to instill a sense of service into my kids.

Anyway, a 75 minute run this evening.  It was great.  Nice and slow.  Almost therapeutic.  One of my more enjoyable runs this year.

Hope you're all having a great weekend.  Anyone hear from Thomas or know how his surgery went?

You deserved a nice therapeutic run after devoting some time and skills to a good cause.

Great race Ryan! Great time!

Good for you helping out Jen!

Rode up to a 5K yesterday, about 26 miles or so to the race.  Had a good time at the race, but was a bit slow.  Not unexpected with the ride prior.  It is a great weekend weather wise here for a change, trying to take advantage of it!

Hi all, i have returned from Florida

Cliff notes.

It was actually nice to not be tied to a computer, and out of the loop, it reminds you how much we rely and how much time we actually spend in front of these little electric boxes.

So, i got sick as a dog last Thursday 102* fever and Morgan had gotten her first ear infection ever, nice.....

Friday took a sick day from work, still not 100%

Saturday we flew to Florida, Morgans first flight ever, flight was good, Morgan was good, my ears were clogged and would not unclog, we landed and my ears were killing me and head was totally congested

Sunday through Wednesday were typical vacation days, i ran and swam each day, spent a lot of time at the beach with the family, cough and congestion never subsided

Thursday i rented a bike, and tried to hook up with a local velo club for their 35-50 mile hammerfest, i went to where they were supposed to meet and got there 15 mins early and waited 45 mins and the ride never materialized, so i went for 35 miles on my own, Florida is flat and boring, but great for interval training.

Friday i swam a bit, and we got ready to leave on Saturday

Still have the cough, flight home was uneventful and i only put on 2 lbs from vacation. Nice place to visit, but i am glad i live in the Northeast.

There is still something in my chest, and my throat was sore from coughing all week, i will probably go to the Dr early this week.

And i got a nice suntan!!!!

Looks like i missed about 15 pages of stuff, i will try and scan through them, hope everyone had a great 2 weekends and week.

Ryan - great run.  One of these days I'll take a crack at 10K.

Rudy - welcome back, hope you enjoyed the vacation time.

. Where in the knee is the pain?

It is in the front of the knee, mostly above the knee cap.  I really notice it going down a steep hill or stepping up high but also when I make a quick move to the side, even a small move.  It feels like it is going to give out and has pain.  I wouldn't call it a sharp pain per say.

Welcome back.

How is the calf doing with running?

so far so good, have not had any pain, and when i do run, i make sure to take ibuprofen afterwards, it seems to be helping.

x2.  Smoking fast...and not much drop off in pace during the hills...impressive.

Had a really good training weekend to wrap up the meat of my HIM training.  Saturday long ride I just kept it at HIM effort (rather than blocks above HIM effort) to make sure I didn't bonk again.  Actually felt pretty good.  Followed it up with a great 15.5 mile run today.

Do you mean on top of the bony knee cap or in the soft tissue directly above the knee cap? Sorry to jump in! If you mean on top of the bony part then sounds like a prepatellar bursitis--inflammation of a little sac that helps to essentially lubricate to prevent friction between the patella and the skin during movement. Just my guess with your description!

More like the soft tissue above the knee cap.  There is no swelling and it is not tender to the touch.

Still not sure about racing this coming weekend. We will see, I would say I am favoring doing it, but am going to have to be willing to pull the plug if things aren't right.

Whats on tap for training today?

With all the problems you have had lately I would think just getting to the starting line would be a victory at this point. As you said, be ready to pull the plug if needed. As for me, had a terrible three mile slog this morning. Legs felt pretty good yesterday after Saturdays half marathon but today everything was just....off. Need to work out a decent two week taper for my next half so that I don't over do it but don't slack either. Will be happy to get these halfs behind me so I can concentrate more on Tri training again. My swim has all but disappeared in the last 6 months.
