Masters meets 3 times a week and I have to pay for the whole month, no matter how much I am there, or not.

My homework assignment is not up to par with others as I didn't race, so there was no real way to get a pace booty picture without the law being called on me.  So, here are my best submissions.

My recycling bin

and the only pace booty I saw this weekend.  This reminds me that the pace booty needs grooming!

rrrunner - 2012-09-24 3:26 PM Masters meets 3 times a week and I have to pay for the whole month, no matter how much I am there, or not.

First off, I would suck it up, pay and swim but I need time in the water.  I'd try to get to at least half of the sessions and not stress about the few that I miss.  That's me, not necessarily you.

If you do not do masters, where will you swim?  Is there an issue with pool access without masters?

yeah, that is what I was wondering. If you can just drop in to another pool for a few sessions I would probably do that. That way it takes the pressure off so you don't feel like you have to attend anything extra since you paid for it.

I say this because it sounds like you want to take it a little easy before you start ramping up training.

Hahaha, not too shabby! There is some nice diversity in that bin!

My cats pace booty could also use a trim. Good call!

I could still do swims on my own like I use to do BM (before Masers), as long as I can get a lane Undecided

OK, McManatees. I have been contemplating this "situation" for a few days now and thought I'd get your thoughts ...

Whether or not to pay for/go to Masters for the month of October

1) For the first week of October Masters would be the 1st and 2nd (Monday & Tuesday) due to pool closures

2) I have my OLY "A" race on the 7th

3) I will be on vaca the second week of October so not going to Masters that week

4) I have no training plan in place the 2nd-4th weeks of October because I thought I would enjoy/could use some "down time" before starting my HIM plan

5) Down time could include but is not limited to not getting up at 5:30am to be at Masters

6) The last week of October my plan includes swimming on the 29th & 31st

So essentially I have 4 planned swims for the month but may or may not swim during my off weeks if it is available.

Pod-thoughts?

As long as you have other opportunities/places to swim before your race, I personally wouldn't pony up the money for Masters.  Seems like you wouldn't be getting your money's worth.

That is frustrating.

There is a Sunday-only masters group here.  I will probably end up joining it when I start doing lots of tri training again.

I would weight the getting your money's worth for October against future participation in the group.  I mean, the coach invited TJ to go biking with the group.  There is a lot of good will there.  I would probably be inclined to go to the half that I care to and skip the rest unless it's common to go for two months and then skip a month and come back.

I was thinking something like this, too, but I couldn't figure out how to ask it. If you give it up for a month, could you lose your spot to someone else, or can you just jump back in? I really don't know how it works.

I don't think that ducking out for a month would be a problem. In a few weeks I've met several people who took a month or two off.
I think I'll mention it to Andie and see what she says. She doesn't usually do partial months but maybe she'll offer to let me come for, and pay for, the first and last weeks.

I am in a much better place this evening. I re-read last year's race report. I was happy with 2:46. But there was a similarity between the two races. I run by RPE, and in both races, I felt very good, by that I mean that my breathing was relaxed. I was never panting. I never felt exhausted on a cardiovascular level.

I think I know what that means, but I just want someone to double check my logic. My lungs and heart can work harder and go faster, but my legs -- for lack of training miles -- just aren't there yet. Does this sound right?

I promise to stop overly obsessing about this race. I need to move on to the next one which is in 3.5 weeks. Just a 15k, but with a killer one mile hill in the middle that we run up and then turn around and run back down. Fun!

A partial month might be a great solution. I hope it works out.

BTW
When are you planning on Oceanside? I looked at the swim map and it is in a harbor. That doesn't sound quite as scary as I was thinking it would be.

Yep, you are spot on. Get some miles in and make sure plenty of those miles are hilly. Aside from the fact your next race has a big hill it will help with your overall leg strength and power in your running.

Glad you are feeling better, Felicia.  I'll let the more experienced runners answer your question!

I have (re)discovered that I do not do well on rest days.  Mondays are usually my scheduled rest day, but took yesterday off too as feeling a little sore.  But I am all grumpy and jittery last night and today...  I always eat too much and crap on off days too.  I generally like the taper, but I sense a difficult week... Sealed
