Spanish Train by Chris DeBurg

... And far away in some recess

the Lord and the Devil are now playing chess

And the Devil still cheats and wins more souls,

.. and as for the Lord well .... he's just doing his best!

And I said: "Lord, oh Lord, don't let him win,

the sun is down and night's driving in,

That train is dead on time,

Many souls are on the line,

Oh Lord .... don't let him win ........

There only two things in life that make it worth livin'
That's guitars that tune good and firm feelin' women
I don't need my name in the marquis lights
I got my song and I got you with me tonight
Maybe it's time we got back to the basics of love

In the Rush vein:

"You can choose a ready guide in some celestial voice.  If you choose not to decide, you still have made a choice.  You can choose from phantom fears and kindness that can kill.  I will choose a path that's clear; I will choose freewill."

That is a good one.........

Philosipher and ploughmen, each must know his part to sow a new mentality, closer to the heart;

You can be the captain and I will draw the chart...sailing into destiny, closer to the heart

Both lines from a great song.

C’est la vie. Have your leaves all turned to brown?
Will you scatter them around you? C’est la vie.

Do you love, and then how am I to know,
If you don’t let your love show for me? C’est la vie.

In the night, do you light a lover’s fire?
Do the ashes of desire for you remain?

Like the sea, there’s a love too deep to show.
Took a storm before my love flowed for you. C’est la vie.

Like a song, out of tune and out of time,
All I needed was a rhyme for you. C’est la vie.

Do you give? Do you live from day to day?
Is there no song I can play for you? C’est la vie.

"C'est La Vie" Emerson Lake & Palmer

Something is about to give
I can feel it coming
I think I know what it is
I'm not afraid to die
I'm not afraid to live
And when I'm flat on my back
I hope to feel like I did
'Cause hardness, it sets in
You need some protection
The thinner the skin
I want you to know
That you don't need me anymore
I want you to know
You don't need anyone, anything at all

"Kite" U2
-------------------------

Well Portland, Oregon & sloe gin fizz
If that ain't love then tell me what is
Uh-huh.
"Portland, Oregon" Loretta Lynn w/ Jack White
-----------------------------------

And one my husband wrote... Had to include it 'cuz it's stuck in my head this morning.

Watercolor sunset with a strawberry moon.
The stars that sing spacey love song
Her mind that wanders into outter space
Forever young and forever with grace

And the stars watching over you
And you feel like a summer rain
You don't know nothing's more beautiful than you
And you still don't know it's true.

"Spacey Love Song" My Pocket Zoo
-----------------------------------------------

And for the prog rockers out there. I know, I know...it's an obvious pick...but I like the song. Even before they used it in the advert for Big Fish.

Move me on to any black square,
Use me any time you want,
Just remember that the goal
Is for us all to capture all we want
(Move me on to any black square)
Yea, yea, yea.

Don't surround yourself with yourself,
Move on back two squares,
Send an Instant Karma to me,
Initial it with loving care
Don't surround yourself.

'Cause it's time, it's time in time with your time and its news is captured
For the queen to use.

"Your Move" Yes

One of my favorites:

As the radioman says
It is 5 am
And the sun has charred
The other side of
The world and come
Back to us
And painted the smoke
Over our heads
An imperial violet

Soul Coughing, Screenwriter's Blues

I think the whole song is pretty much poetry set to music. This part has always stuck out.

Rhiannon rings like a bell through the night
And wouldn't you love to love her?
Takes through the sky like a bird in flight
And who will be her lover?

All your life you've never seen a woman
Taken by the wind
Would you stay if she promised you heaven?
Will you ever win?

She is like a cat in the dark
And then she is the darkness
She rules her life like a fine skylark
And when the sky is starless

All your life you've never seen a woman
Taken by the wind
Would you stay if she promised you heaven?
Will you ever win?
Will you ever win?

It's late in the evening
She's wondering what clothes to wear
She puts on her make up
And brushes her long blonde hair
And then she asks me
Do I look alright
And I say yes, you look wonderful tonight

We go to a party
And everyone turns to see
This beautiful lady
That's walking around with me
And then she asks me
Do you feel alright
And I say yes, I feel wonderful tonight

I feel wonderful
Because I see the love light in your eyes
And the wonder of it all
Is that you just don't realize
How much I love you

She is frequently kind
And she’s suddenly cruel
She can do as she pleases
She’s nobody’s fool
But she can’t be convicted
She’s earned her degree
And the most she will do
Is throw shadows at you
But she’s always a woman to me

Red hair with a curl,

Mellow roll for the flavor and two eyes for peeping.

Can't keep away from the girl,

These two sides of my brain need to have a meeting.

I like to rock out to that song while I'm driving, among other White Stripe songs. I do not, however, like the joss stone remake of this song.

p.s. Bobby says it's fine, he don't consider it cheatin'

Yup:

WONDERFUL TONIGHT
Eric wrote the song on 7 September 1978 while waiting for his first wife, Patti, to get dressed for a night out. They were on their way to a party hosted by Paul and Linda McCartney in honor of Buddy Holly’s birthday. They were running very late and Patti insisted on trying outfit after outfit to find the perfect one. She kept coming downstairs wearing something new and Eric kept saying, "You look wonderful. Can we go now?" Eventually, he became tired of this and picked up a guitar to keep himself occupied and wrote "Wonderful Tonight".
