bradword - 2009-05-14 10:29 PM Do we have to wear it for the race? If you have your race number on, I'd just accidentally cut it off

You will need it to get into and out of transition, etc. It is used for other identification purposes as well.

Yes, this needs to stay on to get your transition stuff, morning stuff, bike, etc.....

Alrighty so the age group waves for the swim sucks.  Why would you put the 3rd and 4th fastest age group waves last?  Yaya I can understand the daylight issue, but then start the darn thing 30 min earlier.  The last two waves are goning to be hitting heavy traffic for the entire race.  Why would you intentially plan a bottleneck in the race when the bike section is already on roads that are not closed to traffic?  And why in blue blazes are folks not allowed to aclimate to 60 F water before the race starts?  And don't get me started on the shuttle bus $$ not being lincluded in the entry fee.  Reading those zillion rules always makes me nervious too.  If you do x you will be disqualified, if you do y you will be penalized we will be watching....    Ok I am done, carry on.

Personally I hate races with 2 transitions locations. I guess if you want to swim in a lake and finish in town with spectators there isn't much of a choice. And if the attraction is to make it an event for the spectators (and athletes who like them at the finish) then you have to start the slow folks first so people finish closer together. But I can assure you that there are some (many?) of us 50+ men & 40+ woman that will finish ahead of some of the later starting youngsters.

As far as not swimming before the races . . .  just plain dumb. I'm sure someone is concerned with the liability issue. But if that isthe case people should be able to just show up and swim the day before like any member of the public. That is of course assuming the lake is open to the public for swimming.

Agree with almost everything you say :-).....especially the rules.  Oy, I'm worried as your run of the mill BOP AGer, if I somehow incur an infraction, I can guarantee you it will be inadvertent, and not some intentional attempt to gain seconds toward a podium spot :-)  Lord knows I don't need that anxiety....

but seems like most tris I've done, maybe it's just been coincidence, they have almost the very same sort of waves, pros, 40+women, etc, with the youngest men going last.

jkward - 2009-05-14 8:50 PM Yeah I'm not to excited about starting in the last wave 5min till 3. I thought that the 2 p.m. start was late.
I'm off at 2:40. That will be a long time to wait while watching everyone else is leaving. I just checked and sundown is 9:27. Thankfully this is one on the longest days of the year.

well, that's good to know, because surely there will still be that "twilight" and I'm hoping there will be some modicum of light when I finish.  I wonder what the moon phase will be?

I don't see anything different in the rules than any other 70.3 I've done or read the guides for. Better that they hit people with the rules as many times as possible so they get it, rather than have someone claim they'd never heard.

So enough with the negativity (especially from me!). I thought it would be fun to add our pictures to this thread so we can hopefully recognize each other when we're there. And maybe describe your kit and bike.

Kit: Sugoi silver, grey and black one piece tri suit
Bike: Red/Black Giant tri bike

Brad, What a great idea!  I'm getting so excited, both because I now know I will survive (like I've said before it ain't gonna be pretty) and because the hubster and I are headed to Yellowstone after the race so some nice R&R afterwards.

I have a Felt B2  and will prolly wear my Zoot two piece turquoise tri top / black shorts.  I never even bothered to look into more substantial tri shorts for the bike, I'm just gonna suck it up for the 56 miles :-

I shoulda grabbed a shot with my sherpa now that I thought about it, but our height difference is rather noticeable Tongue out

My start time I believe is 2:10 so while I'm delusional enough to think of it as a head start, y'all are gonna pass me by I"m guessing. I'm just hoping to hit the finish right around sundown, 9:27 p.m. Sealed

60 degrees?  You'll be LUCKY if it's 55 degrees.  (regardless of what the Race Director says).

There are two options to get 'aclimated'.  First; Discovery State Park is located directly below the lake.  You have to drive by it on the way to T1.  This little swim pond is fed from the bottom of the lake, so the water is as cold or colder.  Second;  Springshore Marina is about 10 miles further out of town on Hwy 21.  To the far left of the boat docks is a bit of calm, open water (close to shore).   Same lake-further upstream.

Good luck to all and WELCOME to Boise.

I checked your race log and saw you completed the Motor City Sprint Tri.  I am abit concerned for you in the swim leg of Bosie. In Motor City you list your swim time as

14:59:00 | 546.81 yards | 2h 44m 25s / 100yards

Almost 15 hours. Maybe I should pull you along, otherwise you'll never make the cutoff.

LOL, crap I never did change that, sposd to be 14:59 minutes/seconds not hours hee hee.  I better take care of that.  I make that mistake regularly in my log, putting the time I started versus time spent and couldn't figure out why my pace was so poor.  OY!

Ok so Friday 4800 yard OWS 60 F, yesterday was 100 mile bike, bricked with a 5 mile run and a 14.5 run this am, getting ready for this thing.

So question, do you have to attend the Athlete Race Briefing or just need to pick up your race packet on 6/12?

The race briefings are in the morning so I would have to get there on 6/11 insteady of driving up and picking up the packet after noon on 6/12.   It was not entirely clear from my quick read of the instructions.

Hehe I said I was going far, not that I was going fast....  My Fall HIM was 6:48:xx or some such, so just hoping to beat that.  This course should be a little more forgiving than the Las Vegas HIM and my training is a bit farther along so hopefully longer will = faster.  My swim isn't really any faster 2:00 /100 ish, my bike isn't really any faster 16.6-17.3 depending on hills, so the only place I will really improve is if I can maintain on the run with the better endurance this go around.  So 1-2 min faster pace on the run gives me an savings of 13-20 minutes probly so my guess is 6:30 or better.  Hopefully we get some hot days here to train in to get aclimated.  I haven't trained in anything over 85F yet so if Boise is mid 90s, that could be hurtful.

Even if you feel you are not going fast in your training, the amount of preparation you're doing is spooking me. I was feeling confident after feeling fresh after an Oly last week, but I am doing no where near the distances you are doing (except for the swimming which is easy for me). This will be my first 70.3 and am thankful that the run will be flat.

You SHOULD be okay weather wise. According to weather.com the average high on June 13th is only 79. We have been slightly above average lately but only in the low to mid 80's.
