Science Nerd 28760 Redwood City, California | Subject: RE: IM Louisville watching thread Current times for everyone. Two of the athletes (Melissa and Heather) have the wrong bib #. If anyone figures out the right number, we can add this in. I can't figure out how to make this look nice when I paste from Excel, so I'm just attaching the file. If you know how to get the pasting to work, let me know. NM...figured out a fix. Saved it as a web page (html) and then could copy and paste here. Edited by Artemis 2009-08-30 9:56 AM |

I volunteered at the swim start, and the chip timing guy said only 24-2500. |

Cycling Guru 15134 Fulton, MD | Subject: RE: IM Louisville watching thread Is his pace slower than expected Jorge? Seems as if I would expect him to be faster than that. Or is he trying to hold it back for the run? 1:03 + 5:48-ish + 7 for transitions = 6:58-ish off the bike to the run. I don't think he has a 3:00 IM marathon in him to break 10. What was the projected time he was looking for today? |

What was the projected time he was looking for today? Can't speak for Jorge, but yes, he is riding slightly behind where he wanted. He got burned last year at MOO by going too hard on the bike so I hope he is holding it back a bit. Either that or pick it up on the second lap. Guess we will see in the next hour or so. Looks like there were a handful of guys in front of him that aren't strong cyclist so he has passed 6-8 of them. Of course, there is no telling how many came out of the water behind him and are strong cyclist Edited by ADollar79 2009-08-30 11:50 AM |

What was the projected time he was looking for today? The plan was to take the 1st half steady and then settle into a nice rhythm for the 2nd half to pick up the pace. Still, while he has some power guidelines to pace his race he knew he had to go by RPE 1st and foremmost and use power to avoid doing something stupid and leave his chances at KQ on the bike. It is all about the run and he has to get with good running legs to T2 hence even if he ride 5-10min slower of what he can normaly do is ok as long as he can run 3:30 or better. IMO if he paced correctly he can shoot for a 3:25hr mary based on his potential and testing but we all know executing matters most. At this point he seems to be following his plan for the 1st half but in the last 45 we'll find out how well he paced and how much he was able to pick up the pace while remaining in control. When going after a KQ you are racing for placing more than time, yes we know what time he should be able to do based on training and historically what times have earned KQ but you also have to go with what the day throws at you during the race and face it as everyone does. Right now he is around top 10 of the top 20 guys through the 67 mile mark and depending on the remaining 45 miles I *think* he should be in around 5:30hrs, in particular since those who already completed the 112 miles seemed they increased their speed by 2+ mph on the last 45 miles, but we'll find out! |
