Master ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() | ![]() COgirl - 2005-12-15 3:02 PM I'm also a fan of Amazing Grace, especially by bagpipes.....seems like in my family's Irish tradition, everyone has this played at their gravesite. Danny Boy also makes me cry. Amazing Grace with bagpipes. They played it at a fellow firefighers funeral who died in the line of duty. Everyone was in tears, he was only 29 years young. |

My friend will play it just to see me cry- Must have been on the radio during some childhood trama or something Michael Martin Murphy. And no, you don't want to play against me in Trivial Pursuit. Wife, Mother, Friend. ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() | ![]() uh. I was at work when everyone was posting and I'll probably kill it. Amazing Grace. This was my grandmother's favorite song. They played it at her son's funeral (he died a year before I was born). Then my grandmother passed, I was very pregnant and couldn't travel 700something miles. So I went to Mass on the day of her funeral, and they played Amazing Grace and I just lost it. |

Champion![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() | ![]() "No Regrets" by Tom Rush I know your leavin's too long overdue For far too long I've had nothin' new to show to you Goodbye dry eyes I watched your plane Fade off west of the moon And it felt so strange to walk away alone No regrets, no tears goodbye Don't want you back, we'd only cry, again Say goodbye, again The hours that were yours, echo like empty rooms The thoughts we used to share, I now keep alone I woke last night and spoke to you, not thinking you were gone It felt so strange to lie awake, alone No regrets, no tears goodbye Don't want you back, we'd only cry, again Say goodbye, again Our friends have tried to turn my nights to day Strange faces in your place can't keep the ghosts away Just beyond the darkest hour, just behind the dawn Still feels so strange to lead my life, alone I've no regrets, no tears goodbye Don't want you back, we'd only cry, again Say goodbye, again |

Expert ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() | ![]() Simple but moving, The Moody Blues "For My Lady" My boat sails stormy seas Battles oceans filled with tears At last my port’s in view Now that I’ve discovered you Oh I’d give my life so lightly For my gentle lady Give it freely and completely To my lady As life goes drifting by Like a breeze she’ll gently sigh And slowly bow her head Then you’ll hear her softly cry. Oh I’d give my life so lightly For my gentle lady Give it freely and completely To my lady Words that you say when we’re alone Though actions speak louder than words But all I can say is I love you so To drive away all my hurt Oh I’d give my life so lightly For my gentle lady Give it freely and completely To my lady Set sail before the sun Feel the warmth that’s just begun Share each and every dream They belong to everyone. Oh I’d give my life so lightly For my gentle lady Give it freely and completely To my lady |

Extreme Veteran ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() | ![]() Jlee - 2005-12-15 1:50 PM I agree with a few of the other songs... Amazing Grace, such a wonderful song.... however it always reminds me of funerals. And my inability to change reality... It reminds me of funerals too, but the place that I heard it that for some reason gets to me is in the movie L.A. Story. Steve Martin is this weather man having a midlife crisis and a freeway information sign (the ones showing road closing, etc.) starts sending him messages to help him figure himself out. I've always felt pretty lost in the world so stuff like this resonates with me for some reason. Anyway, by the end of the movie he's found the love of his life, is happier and asking who, what, why the billboard is. It throws a little Shakespeare at him "There are more things in heaven and earth than are dreamt of in your philosophy" and then blasts out the Amazing Grace bagpipes. For some reason that just cuts right through me. Makes me feel very miniscule, but part of something pretty amazing. Anyway, good song. Good movie. |

Master ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() | ![]() Also my favorite Christmas song, and one I can't hear without crying either. Sorry for the loss of your dad. Thanks...been a while now but it's still hard. Guess it just reminds us all of the quality of life we all enjoy and how much we really need to keep it up! That's why we're all here isn't it? |

And how I hope that she is able to fly over whatever rainbow she wants!!! God, I love that little girl!!!!!) |

Master![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() | ![]() The Mansions of the Lord - West Point Glee Club Every time I hear this song I just well up. It was in the movie We were Soldiers with Mel Gibson. "The Mansions of the Lord" Words by Randall Wallace To fallen soldiers let us sing where no rockets fly nor bullets wing Our broken brothers let us bring to the mansions of the Lord No more bleeding no more fight No prayers pleading through the night just divine embrace, eternal light in the mansions of the Lord Where no mothers cry and no children weep We will stand and guard tho the angels sleep All through the ages safely keep the mansions of the Lord |

Member ![]() ![]() ![]() | ![]() "Ruby's Arms" - Tom Waits I will leave behind all of my clothes, I wore when i was with you, All i need's my railroad boots, and my leather jacket, As i say goodbye to Ruby's arms, although my heart is breaking, I will steal away out through your blinds, for soon you will be waking. The morning light has washed your face, and everything is turning blue now, Hold on to your pillow case there's nothing i can do now, As i say goodbye to Ruby's arms, You'll find another soldier, And i swear to god by christmas, There'll be someone else to hold you. The only thing i'm taking is the scarf off of your clothesline, I'll hurry past your chest of drawers, And your broken window chimes, As i say goodbye I'll say goodbye, Say goodbye to Ruby's arms. I'll feel my way down the darken hall, And out into the morning, The hobos at the freightyards, have kept their fires burning, so jesus christ this goddamn rain, will someone put me on a train, I'll never kiss your lips again, or break your heart, As i say goodbye I'll say goodbye, Say goodbye to Ruby's arms. Elite ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() | ![]() I've several songs that remind me of times happy and sad that bring tears to my eyes but right now, when my father not's doing too well, it's just that we've had such a great relationship over my lifetime and I am his namesake so the song that twist my heartstrings is "Leader of the band". I thank you for the music

Elite Veteran![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() | ![]() Daughters by John Mayer. I have a 17 YO daughter and when the song would come on the radio, she'd look at me and change the channel. I finally had to promise her that I wouldn't cry (much) if she let me listen to it. I love her a lot and hope I've been good to her; I know her father has. Cat's in the Cradle. For the reasons previously provided. A Mighty Fortress is our God. Picked it as one of the hymns at my mom's funeral. Powerful. Taps? Not so much....Since I live on base, I hear it every night at 10PM. But I can understand how it touches others. |

![]() OK, it sounds goofy, but at a race the Star Spangled Banner always gets me a little. Funny how Sarah M makes a lot of lists..... But she's on mine. Hold On, she wrote it after reading about a couple that found out just after getting engaged that the husband was dying, went through with it anyway and nursed him thru his death. Hold on Hold on to yourself for this is gonna hurt like hell. Hold on Hold on to yourself. You know that only time can tell What is it in me that refuses to believe this isn't easier than the real thing. My love, you know that you're my best friend. You know that I'd do anything for you and my love let nothing come between us my love for you is strong and true. Am I in heaven here or am I... At the crossroads I am standing. Oh God if you're out there won't you hear me. I know we're never talked before and oh God the man I love is leaving won't you take him when he comes to your door. Am I in heaven here or am I in hell at the crossroads I am standing. Hold on hold on to yourself for this is gonna hurt like hell. |
