Good morning manatees!  I'm all caught up on everyone's bio...loving this group!!!

What's on tap for today for everyone?

I've got yoga and a ride this afternoon

I tried to run this am; for the last 3 weeks I've been dealing with a hamstring injury and every so often do a "test' run to check its healing.  Well, it's not healed

This pm I will spend about 1 hour on the trainer.  At least I'll attempt to spend an hour on the trainer - on tuesday, my bike fell off 2x!

Fell off not once but twice! Sheeeesh, don't injure the other hammy! Maybe even wear a helmet...

I'm thinking elbow pads too!

Asalzwed - 2012-04-05 9:35 AM I also just want to throw it out there that I am a HUGE sucker for ALL ACCENTS. I just love it. I am also convinced that I do not have an accent. Seattle-English in the gold standard for normal Wink

I too get a kick out of accents.  Being a Canadian, I don't have one (close enough to Seattle-English that you can't tell, anyway).  We just like to say Eh? a lot.

As for training today, I am supposed to be doing a 75 min run.  May move the day off to today however, as I am feeling fatigued.  Another ice hockey player here, and had lead legs last night at my game...Game went to a shootout, with every player on both teams shooting before a winner was finally declared.  Sad; we are worse at the shootout than the Canucks Surprised.  Have a great day (or sleep) all!

Actually, the addition of the "eh" makes you super gold standard.

Another hockey player!!!! Of course, I just assume all Canadians play hockey. That is probably one of the things I most appreciate about Canada, including the fact that every game I have ever played in Canada ends with a case of beer in the locker room from the host team. What is this? Heaven?

I can identify a canadian accent in about 3 sentences, it's the hard A Smile...  And toques here are called tobagins, no idea why.  for some reason Quebec thinks Charleston is the best vacation area ever.  Which is great we love tourists!  I'm a transplant from Washington DC originally and while I don't have the full southern accent going yet (I believe that in DC you get exposed to so many accents there isn't one for the locals), "y'all", "bless his heart" and a few other southern terms are common fare for me at this point.

Nursing the Achilles back to health (no running) and battling what I hope is the tail end of a cold, so no swimming (hard to cough and breathe air, not water ) and said cough is keeping me off the bike, too.  Ugh, I hate being idle.  May try to do some core work tonight if it doesn't make me cough.  Hoping to be better so I can ride over the weekend.

Huh?  We have tuques (hats) and toboggans (sleds).  Never heard of a tuque being a toboggan?

ETA: Huh.  Just looked it up, and tuques are indeed sometimes known as toboggans.  Whaddya know?  Maybe because they are often worn while tobogganing?  I learned something new today!

Yesterday, it was sunny when I left home and pouring rain when I returned.  I knew that there were some storm cells in the area but they were pretty far away so I should have had time -- it was just moving a lot faster than I thought.

I ended up with very wet shoes.

I used my new toy to resolve that situation.

You all probably already know about this but I didn't.

My story...gall bladder surgery.

Ooooo, I feel your pain on that one. Mine was removed last year, after the WDW HM. Not fun.

Ouch! I'm amazed you were able to run with the pain.  I gave up after my twelve mile run while marathon training because I couldn't handle it, but that was definitely NOT a race!

Well, I knew the gall bladder was headed south before hand, so I had to adjust my food accordingly. Which sux, since I loooove all fried foods. I try not to eat them as much as I used to, but occasionally, I would partake. Anyway, they have the best fried chicken at the Pioneer Hall in WDW, and it was going to be my reward for my first ever HM. Until the gall bladder issue cropped up. The pain from fried anything was intense. So, for me, the worst part in having mine removed, outside of the pain after the surgery, was not getting fried chicken after the race.

Trust me, I've done the newspaper thing and it's OK but this is way better.  It deals with the wet and prevents the stink.

X2 on newspaper. I use it after every run.

And speaking of run, I hope to get one in on Friday morning, which will be my first this week. I've been fighting a head cold that had me floored. I nearly called in sick to work on Wednesday, and really, who wants to waste a day off being sick??? Possible bike ride for me tonight, but I'll have to see. Either I won't feel up to it, my wife will SUGGEST that I don't ride, or it will happen. 1 in 3 chance. Wait and see, I guess.

Hello everyone.. I am Kevin and I hope I am able to join this group. I have not done any triathlons in a few years after having some knee issues but currently I am doing P90X and working on a good cardio base. I have a couple small sprint tris and I am considering doing an olympic tri in Auguest (maybe even July). Most of my biking as of late has been either mountain biking or in spin class, but I will be hitting the roads soon.

A little bit about me. 38 Male from Mississippi. I hiked the Appalachian Trail a few years ago and can't wait till I can retire so I can hike it again. I enjoy beach volleyball, photography, and basically anything outdoors.

Hey Kevin! Welcome to the Manatees!

I just read A Walk in the Woods and am incredibly intrigued by the Appalachian trail. I suppose I should hit the Pacific Crest first before I go across the country. Anyway, that is really cool!

AWESOME! I sectioned through the smokey mtn ntl park and LOVED IT!  I'm a total lurker on the whiteblaze.net site.  I dream about hiking the whole thing but also agree that realistically it wont happen till i retire (which, is a L O N G way off)

Phew, I am finally home.  Here's a short bio:

Name:  Erica 33 y/o

Family status:  Married for almost 13 years to a sailor.  We have 3 wonderful kids, Alex (11), Cole (9) and Liam (8).

Current training:  Nada.  This has been a tough year or two for me.  I have next to no free time and am struggling to balance life.  I am a full time student at UCONN (go Huskies!) finishing my anthropology degree this semester (30 days but who's counting??).  The children have insane schedules that keep me taxing them all over our little state. My husband (Bryan) is getting ready to deploy for a year.  He leaves in June.  So, needless to say, we are super busy and always coming or going.

Last Year's Races (2011):  Newport Naval Station Sprint (slow but fun) and Wild Dog Spring (1st in Athena!!).

This year's planned races: None.  With Bry leaving, I do not have child care.  With Cole's special needs, childcare is impossible to find.

Weight loss:  A few years after Liam was born, I weighed in at 220 (I'm 5'8").  I got tired of being fat so I started to count my calories and started working out on the elliptical machine every day.  I dropped down to 175 and eventually started running.  I had always wanted to do a triathlon so I made a goal to do a sprint before I turned 30.  I dropped 10 more pounds and successfully completed my goal.  That was in 2008.  I completed a HIM in 2009 and then was injured in 2010.  I have gained back about 10 pounds that I really want to lose.

I am trying to start back slowly (walking) and plan to kick it back up in May, as soon as I graduate and have a little free time again.  Time is really a limiter for me but I don't want it to be an excuse.  I need accountability and I think you all can help.

Welcome to everyone who joined in the last day or so.

I had a crazy busy day at work today, so in no particular order, here are some of my comments/thoughts about what people have said over the last couple pages.

1) Wet shoes. Yuck. I will have to try the newspaper trick. I don't have to deal with it much here, but things have been a little wet for the past few days.

2) Gall Bladder -- I had a moment to post that I had mine out as well. I was in so much pain, couldn't eat -- my weight loss actually started with my gall bladder problems. I was hesitant to have it out, but having it out was probably the best thing I ever did. I felt like a new person, at about 6 weeks post op.

3) Depression -- been in the deep dark hole. Not fun. I was also on medication (zoloft), and I credit it with saving my life. Literally. My depression was from the break up of my first marraige -- bad, bad situation.

4) Accents. Mine is crazy. I'm from Oregon, lived in Tennessee, New York, Virginia, and now Kansas. I say "y'all" but I also have the very open vowels of someone from upstate New York. I grew up saying "pop," but now I say "soda."

I got to the pool this morning for 30 minutes and ran 30 minutes before dinner. That's it for me today. I am off from work tomorrow and Monday, so I am going to try to get a medium long run in either Friday or Saturday, and a 45-60 minute bike ride in this weekend. I have my first race next Saturday. I'm beginning to get a little nervous.

I know I've been around BT for a very long time (even longer than Yanti!), but I haven't been training much so can I PUH-LEASE be a manatee?  I've always wanted to be.

Pretty please, with a frosted cherry PopTart on top?

HA! Biscuits just walked in as you postedPOP TARTS DID YOU MENTION POP TARTS ... I have a dozen new Biscuits/Moose pics for you, but one I just took today.

Huh. Well, I suppose you of all people know what I'd do for a Pop Tart ... and you are my sponsor, after all ... so WELCOME!!!

It's a little intimidating (yes, you, smartypants) because you know everything, but then again, Lord knows I need you and everyone else too to flipper MY butt

Also, Jo (jobaxas) who's now a Manatee whom I met last week has a gorgeous, perfect little girl named Artemis.

Adorable!!  E's middle name is Artemis.  It seemed appropriate since I went into labor the day of a lunar eclipse and she was born the night of a full moon.

I really need a kick in the butt.  This running thing is hard when you haven't done it in 5 months!!

And you know I always love Biscuits and Moose pictures.

My gorgeous girl is my litle goddess Artemis!  My husband is Greek hence the name.

I also have no gall bladder - thanks to miss Artemis giving it a good kicking when in my tummy!  Removed in 2005.  Been soooo much better with out it!

Being from Michigan, I can hear a Canadian accent a mile away, A.  Not only the 'A' on everything but a-boat for about and pro-cess with a long 'o' for process.  I love my Canadian coworkers and their accents.

Too much family drama tonight so I blew off my 8 mile run to dive into a glass of wine.  The desire and the energy were drained out of me.

Yanti, where and when is the Light at the End of the Tunnel Marathon?  I love the name of it and I may have to do it just because of that.

Looks like we have a great group of new and vintage manatees in the pool this Spring!  Glad to see and meet everyone.  I've been enjoying reading about everyone's journeys.  Remember "just keep swimming"-Finding Nemo.  So profound!!

HI KEYE! Once a Manatee, always a Manatee

And as I've said before

NOBODY IS EXPECTED TO KEEP UP -- CHECK IN AND JUMP IN WHEN YOU CAN

It's an extremely lively group, it always is, and also--life happens to all of us. That's why we have two 'official' mentors (mentals? ha ha ha) but also, there's a great breadth and depth of experience in this group.

Also, we're happy to inspire and support whatever health goals you have--much of the last two years I've been recovering from illness. That sharply redefines one's goals! So wherever anyone is at and whatever you can put into your own life and this group is fine.
