Is it too soon to ask a training question?  Wink  Y'know how with running training plans, you build for 3 weeks then have a bit of a 'rest' week?  Should that 4th week go back to the 2nd week volume, so actually decreasing for a week, or just do the 3rd week again?  So fer'instance, using time:

Week 1: 2hours 33 min total for the week

Week 2: 2:45

Week 3: 3:05

Week 4: 3:05?  or 2:45?

Schpanks.

Kirsten, how is your achilles doing? If you are going to be building volume, make sure you keep enough flexibility in your plan to react to what your body tells you.

Chris, it's doing well.  I have had no issues with it at all.  I am absolutely listening to my body.  More on that in a minute.  All my runs to this week have been just super easy, barely getting out of Z1 on most of them.  I have pushed a leeeeetle bit on a couple of my runs this week, the short ones, and it is ok.  I have been running 6 days a week for 4 weeks I think and I am running faster at the same HR already.  I am trying to work on recognizing my pace without having to look at my watch....  ETA: just looked at my splits for my run, and the last 5km were actually pretty even.

So today I was out for my long run (6.5km!) and my right hip flexors are getting a little sore around km 3.  Nothing new, although usually it is after a lot more distance.  Started focusing on tightening my core--voila, hip soreness goes away.  Man, I gotta start remembering to do those damn planks!!!

Absolutely gorgeous day today--unusually warm for us this time of year.  The past two years at this time of the year it has been cold and rainy.  I gotta go see about getting a new lawn mower blade and get the grass cut!

Still not feeling it for the race.  It starts at 5 PM and will be downright COLD by the time I get going.  Mental shift to a supported training day and MAYBE I can make it through without a meltdown.

They have been running it all day with an age group then their awards, next age group and their awards.  It's a new race and the group that organized it is a strong coaching team.  This is the first race I have seen him put on.  Maybe by doing it this way he's limiting the congestion of bike traffic cause the area for the race is seated between a couple major roads but in a business park that wouldn't see much weekend traffic.

I went for a massage today and what I thought was an inflamed anterior tibialis is probably just more commonly ITB issues.  I don't like to be common.   Any one else have issues with your ITB?  I guess I need to use the foam roller that sits in the corner collecting dust.

While I have a quick moment I wanted to log in and say "Welcome" to all the new and returning Manatees. I'll put together a current Manatee table with links to everyone's log as soon as Yanti and Salty close this group up.  If you want it you can feel free to grab it out of my log, it should be there later in the week.  I'll get everyone into my friends list and you may see me checking up on you in the next few days Smile

I hope everyone had a great weekend!

Artemis - 2013-05-06 12:28 AMI bailed on the race this morning.  Woke up and my hip still really hurts.  I haven't been keeping up with all the stretches/exercises from PT like I should, so it's tight again.  Also, E didn't go to sleep until almost 1 and was up at 6:30.  Oy.  It's been quite a morning.  We're watching cartoons and playing trains right now.  I think the cat just stole one of her blueberries.
Ok time to harden up and do those PT stretches. Yeah the up in the night thing sucks! When Artemis was one she started waking up randomly I worked out she was a bit hungry so we started to introduce a half bottle of milk when we went to bed so we would wake her up at ten or eleven throw done milk in and she would sleep through to seven or eight...

amd723 - 2013-05-04 6:02 PM  Rev3 Venice again, as I had a great time doing that this past year. However, a certain Manatee has been riding me about racing this year, so I will probably fo the Oly.

I prefer to think of it as gentle nudging and you're lucky I didn't ride you about doing the HIM. . Actually, this is the firmest commitment I've heard about you doing the oly, so I'll take it!

I'll admit, gentle nudging sounds better. I'm not HIM ready yet, if ever. An Oly is all I got for this year. We have a vacation week planned in mid Oct, so that may mess with preparations, and I don't own a wetsuit. So I am only at about 68.9% committed at this point. Or I'm just looking for a reason to bail on it.

68.9% wtf get that 0.1% to 69% it's a magic number

Welllll...I have my first OWS swim under my belt. It was almost all the worst things I could imagine: first wave, swimming start, couldn't relax, couldn't get out at steps easily. On the positive side: small wave, all newbie women, 74° water, last 100 I swam, not last out. I'm still waiting to see times and working on RR. Non-sarcastic positives: DH brought the kids (bestest thing!!!), I rode hills and turns really well, massage and mimosa after :D

Okay, severely RARE occurrence RIGHT NOW:

I have a running question.

I have re-started my training, as I finally have NOTHING else going on in my life Undecided; and on my last two runs, I have felt pretty good, no pain in the ITB, none in the calves--life is good...but then later on, and the next day, my quads are really sore---am I running with bad form? and secondly, how do I fix this??? It doesn't matter what 'speed' I run (i.e. slow or slower....), they just hurt.

Please help!

How hilly are your routes?  A lot of steep downhill work?

Nope--the first run had a couple of moderate hills--nothing that caused any extra exertion; and I walked 1 of them... Tonight's run was flat as a pancake.   >mmmmm pancakes.<
