Starting to freak out a bit that I have not been doing enough. I have been on a bare minimum plan (13 weeks to 13 hour Ironman) and am getting nervous. It will be nice to get out there and start racing. With this being my first Ironman I don't know what to expect.

I'm in.  Saw the markings on the road for the bike route when I rode the IMLOU course last weekend.  Looks like fun.

According to the Cardinal Harbour RD on facebook:
"Cardinal Harbour is now sold out. We have reached our limit of 300 athletes. It should be a great race. It looks like Maximilian Longree, last year Ironman Louisville winner will be there."

Wow... I'm glad CH sold out. I would have loved to do the race again, but I really need to save money. I guess the decision was made for me because even this morning I was still contemplating it.

egerrybarker - 2009-07-12 12:06 PM With a lot of folks out there, I guess it could get interesting going out and back on KY-1694. Since it's my first IM, I will stay out of the way of you more experienced long course athletes. I get a lot of mental strength from seeing people out there sweating and grunting along like me, so in general I don't mind more people. Since I get to ride the IM course because I live in Louisville, I'll let the out of town people know that the bridge at the bottom of the hills on KY-1694 is a little rough with newly placed asphalt patches over 1/2 to 1 inch deep holes on the concrete bridge. Also, I don't see how they will ever be able to re-open the bridge over Harrods creek on River Road in time, so I am counting on the doing the hills on Wolf Pen Branch road, and US 42. The rest of the road surface on the course hasn't changed much since last year when I did the Cardinal Harbor half IM distance. I am concerned about standing around a long time waiting for the swim start. Any thoughts on that? My buddy who did this in 2007 said the start went fairly smoothly, and he was in the water by 0730. That doesn't seem possible with 3000 people though. Any guidance on how the swim start gets set up?

The swim start actually went smooth.  Single file into the water.  The line goes rather fast.  Some people will line up very early and not even check their bikes one last time in transition.  Other people will line up last.  I was in the middle of the pack lat year.  I didn't see any real advantage of being up toward the front.  There were some issues with people jumping line and cutting (jerks), but it didn't really matter.  Your time starts when you enter the water.

Yeah, I think we waited in line for an hour before the start. Take something you don't mind sitting on the ground in, a water bottle and maybe some gel. I know I took a gel ro two while waiting in line.

Once they get the swim start going, it moves quickly. It's just waiting for it to start that takes awhile.

I know this has been discussed before but say I don't get into the water until 720 am?  Do I now have less time to finish or do I still get a full 17 hours?  That would mean people could be finishing after midnight....?  Trust me..I am one of those people that needs EVERY minute.

Knowing you girl, you'll go back out to pace stragglers on the course after you finish!

Hope you can race with me next year!   Is it too early to ask who's racing next year? LOL!

Last year a bunch of us wound up calling the office!  I checked back in my logs and I had my number on 8/21, I think they were officially posted a few days later.  Probably got annoyed by all of the BTers calling to ask for their number!
