sparco - 2009-06-17 1:12 PM Hey Junebugs, have been out of the loop lately.  It's performance review week.

I have a doctor's appt for a physical this morning (going to scout camp with my son for a week).

Work has been busy, but I should have time to get back to running tomorrow.

I'm not EVEN going to try and catch up on this thread.  I'll start here with a clean slate.

Welcome Back!

I lived in Chicago from 85-91 while attending U of C. Haven't been back since about 93. I'm sure I'd enjoy it more now than I did as a poor, stressed graduate student.

This is a recovery week--so volume is down.  I banged out 28 more running today. I have a 5K time test in the next couple of days.  We'll see how that goes!

I try not to overthink it too much.  Calories, no.  Just focus on eating "real" food as much as possible.  Small meals/snacks throughout the day.  Since I don't eat meat I do look for good alternate sources of protein.

Here is a link with a calculator to check out.

http://nutrition.arizona.edu/new/files/02Protein_Needs.pdf

Per your prior question on low cal sources of protein, check out quinoa.  It's a whole grain that is high in protein.  A bit like couscous with more texture.  I eat it with stir-fried veggies.  It would also be great with chicken as a stir fry or side.  I'm also a big fan of brown rice and black beans, but if you're cooking for kids that might be pushing it.

I seem to recall you were trying to back off dairy.  Try Silk soy milk.   I like the chocolate milk as an afternoon snack or post workout calories.

BTW, Friday nights are "free nights" at my house.  Pizza and wine.  Occasionally repeated on Saturday.
