Subject: RE: June Bugschartierm22 - 2009-06-18 3:56 PM Do you all try to get a certain amount of protein and cals in your diet and if so how did you pick that amount? I try not to overthink it too much. Calories, no. Just focus on eating "real" food as much as possible. Small meals/snacks throughout the day. Since I don't eat meat I do look for good alternate sources of protein. Here is a link with a calculator to check out. http://nutrition.arizona.edu/new/files/02Protein_Needs.pdfPer your prior question on low cal sources of protein, check out quinoa. It's a whole grain that is high in protein. A bit like couscous with more texture. I eat it with stir-fried veggies. It would also be great with chicken as a stir fry or side. I'm also a big fan of brown rice and black beans, but if you're cooking for kids that might be pushing it. I seem to recall you were trying to back off dairy. Try Silk soy milk. I like the chocolate milk as an afternoon snack or post workout calories. BTW, Friday nights are "free nights" at my house. Pizza and wine. Occasionally repeated on Saturday. |
