GOOOOOOOOOOOO....Easter Bunny?

Hope all you DL'ers heal up soon!!

Sorry I've been AWOL.  I went away for a blissful 5 days with no email or phone, and little internet access, then came back to utter chaos at work.  This is the first time I've had to even drop in.  I clearly have a lot of catching up to do.

I'm starting to gradually up my training from 3 days to 6 days/wk. and increasing the number of flights of stairs I do when I'm at my downtown office.  So far so good.

So here I am, having eaten wonderful food, stayed in a cabin along a creek at a B&B, soaked in the hot springs to my heart's content...aaaand 4 lbs. heavier despite walking every day and running and swimming.  Time to buckle down!!

Have a good weekend, everybody.

Heal up DL-ers!

Just talked to Garmin about my 920 not doing well with OWS and about a TINY hairline crack in the face.  They are sending a new one, no questions, no cost.  While their products can sometimes cause frustration if they get glitch, I have no beef with them.  Love me some GPS on my wrist!

Registered for a few races.  Finally feels like I'm back in action after a pretty wobbly 9 or 10 months.

Hope you all have a great weekend!

Matt

Does this mean that I should or should not upgrade my 310XT to the 920XT?  I was waiting until after Shamrock because I wouldn't be using most of the functionality and, to be honest, I kinda wanted the firmware to stabilize.

Happy Easter Everyone

Get better those of you on the sick/hurt list.

I'm working all weekend. The Church that is affiliated with the school company that I work for has a big Easter weekend convention each year and we all work at it. Someone in their infinite wisdom went "Stacey, she has no kids, let's put her in the mix with the 5 and 6 year olds." Yep cause that's a good idea.

I'm still a big Garmin fan.  Loved my 910 and now really really like the 920.  I was hoping it would get better on OWS accuracy (although most OWSs aren't longish laps like at Barton Springs, so perhaps the algorithm isn't tuned to turning around so abruptly).  Might be fine in longer, more linear swims - just haven't had a chance to test that out - yet.  In all other ways, it has performed well, and I really like it.

They think it might be this unit, so we'll see with the new one.  All in, even if it doesn't track zigs and zags perfectly in an OWS, I'd buy it again without hesitation.  It does everything else I want, and even some more.  YMMV, of course, but it gets my unreserved recommendation.

Hope everyone has a good weekend.  Been a rocky one thus far here, unfortunately.  There's no pain like seeing one of your kids in pain, at least not IME.

Matt

I happily pulled myself from the DL list today. I also love the fact that I'm referred to as "TheRealNancy." LOLOL

I'd been ignoring some tweakiness in my low back and mid back for a few weeks. I KNOW I should've gone to the chiro a month ago and this never wouldn've been an issue, but I kept putting it off. Anyhow, my incredible chiro put my Atlas back into place, adjusted my right hip and low back as well as getting my right shoulder cooperative again. A few days off after the adjustment (because I was sore as can be for 48 hours after) and I'm now good as new! Plus, it's spring break, so I have a whole 10 days off of work!

Some of you may remember about the bicycle/car accident that occurred in my little area of the world.   The driver has been indicted for the accident.  The driver's toxicology report indicated criminal levels of hydrocodone and marijuana  in his system at the time of the accident.    Maybe there is some small justice in the world.  It's tragic for all, including the driver.

Some of you may also remember that in October last year there was a fatal hit and run bike accident here. They caught the guy who did it and about a week ago he was sentenced to a 5 year jail term with 3.5 years non parole. No where near enough when you consider he was so plastered that hours after the accident his blood alcohol reading was 0.18 or something like that (our limit is 0.05).

Woohoo! All good news topped off with..."crazy" teacher stuff for a week. Students always tried to hijack lessons right before break- "So, Mrs. Clarke, do you have crazy fun plans?" Yep, I'm not going to grade papers or make lesson plans. Let's look at paragraph...

Allergies suck!

T/Thu are now my dreadmill incline days. Yesterday + today's trainer= sore. More incline tomorrow.

Registered for Pat's Run last night. Yay! Will be corralled with a big contingent of RWBs. Kinda cool.

J's job hunt continues, though things are finally getting busy. Phoenix interview on Friday, flying to Cali interview next week, govt position seems to be coming around, and company he left for AZ is showing high interest in his availability.  Sheesh.

Hope Wednesday humped right along for everyone!

Hope the job hunting ends successfully soon.  Sounds promising.

Pat's Run is a lot of fun.  I've gone down and done it a few times.  Pretty cool running into the stadium.

Thanks.

And we do enjoy this run (albeit an extremely crowded event). The best is going through the tunnel when any military groups are doing cadence or Hoo-rahs. Loud!

It was at Pat's Run in 2009 that I had my infamous finish photo.  I'm been looking for it but can't find it.  Just crossing the finish line, the guy right in front of me is whincing and arching his back like someone just poured water on him.  You can see this stream of puke shooting from my mouth to his back.  Yes, it's a very crowded event.  I don't think he ever knew what really hit him.

     (your story in emos)

Find it yet?

I had a small issue with my 920 and they replaced also. Had my new one in a few days. I've been very pleased with Garmin

Originally posted by Jet Black Well, if the high from my first triathlon hadn't worn off yet, then it definitely has now after a hard run this morning. Matt & Jonathan we've got 1.5 more hard weeks then two weeks gradual taper (at least that's what my plan has) before Galveston 70.3. They've posted bib numbers and the swim wave start times. I have to say I hit the lottery on the swim start, feeling very fortunate there. I think I'm going to go ride the course with a guy from work (also racing the event) next Friday if either of you are interested in coming down. We're going to try and figure out an open water swim beforehand if we can too.

Thanks for the notice!

But argh! I'm 2357 and go off at 8:04!  There are like a eleventy-three-gajillion waves in front of me.  Really bums me out, as the bike will be a total shyte-show by the time I get on the course (the swim always is, as I've yet to **ahem** take a pro card).   You definitely got a great wave!  Good to be young.

That said, I'm psyched to race again!  Been way too long and I'm really looking forward to this one, even if it's more completing than competing.  Who knows, maybe I'll catch some great, legal drafts!

So, 1.5 more hard weeks of high (for me) volume and some HIM pace intensity, then a week of moderately high volume with longer HIM intensity intervals mixed with easy ones (one week of peak, whereas I'd typically do two, with the second starting a volume reduction), then one week of taper.

My build schedule is more towards a late June, longer race, but I'll still be in B+/A- shape for this one (will actually taper at least some for it, so it's neither a PR attempt nor "training through").  My goal is to be fit enough to enjoy racing and chill enough to not be too bothered by placement (me being me, I'm always trying to race the best I can - this time just not gonna pay as much attention to the field and judge against what I thought I could do coming in).

Sux getting old and being in the back, but it beats the alternative!

Matt

(edited for emoticon appropriateness - some wrong lookin' faces)

This is my 3rd year racing Galveston and the last two years the 35-59 age group has gone early and the 30-34 age group has been late. This year i just moved into the 35-39 age group and guess what.....it's late. How does that happen?

Both of you guys have put in solid training and should have really good days. I really need another 60 days to prepare for this race. I took too much time off during the winter with my new baby girl and it's been tough trying to get back in race shape. I certainly in better biking shape this year so hopefully I can cut a few minutes off that but who knows what will happen on the run.

Still looking forward to it as always and can't wait for race day. Just something about the Galveston race but I love it.

Proof of life post.  Been reading all posts.  Got outside on the bike for the first time this year today.  Super cold to start, but sunny and warm by the end.  Nice brick run afterwards and even saw the Bunny dart off the path into the woods. He musta been done all his deliveries already .  The yard and garden are calling to me for the rest of the day.  Hope everyone has a fantastic Easter.

Well I have almost survived spending the weekend with the 5 and 6 year olds. We spent the day yesterday taking 42 of them to the wildlife park and a big playground. We didn't loose any and we even brought all of the right ones back
They were smashed by the time we got back and so were all 15 of the adults that went with them. My 5k run didn't happen, well not in one continuous run anyway.

Happy Monday, manatees! (or is it already Tuesday for our Aussie pals?  I'm so bad with time zones that are that far away)  I had the first semi-normal weekend, as in not jam-packed with obligations and/or travel, in a while and it felt pretty dang nice!  Both days were VERY windy (23 mph Sat, 20-25 mph with higher gusts Sun) for my workouts, which was less-than-preferred, especially on the bike, but hey, it builds character, right?  At least that's what I kept telling myself, amongst the fearful thoughts of actually having to do a big race in such conditions.

Glad to hear some of the DLers are improving and making that list shorter!

Requesting prayers, good thoughts, good vibes, whatever your preference or belief for Dad this week.  On Wed. afternoon we will get the results of his latest PET scan.  I'm a bit stressed already worrying about what the doctor will tell us.

Big/busy week for me. Busy at work thru Wednesday then Thursday we fly to Chi-town for DS2's graduation on Friday!!! Happy Momma! Somewhere in there I need to fit two 5's, a 10 and a 15 miler!
