TriPatrick - 2012-05-16 6:53 PM Anyone see they just changed the bike/run course up? Looks like we will have a longer run after the swim. I can not zoom in enough to figure it out. They also said IMTX 2013 registration will not open until after meeting with officials. I wonder if they want to change date or if the township is fighting the event?

I saw the transition area this am.  Its less than 100 yards from swim exit to the tent.  This is a prety hoity toity development/community.  I am pretty shocked they allowed the race to be staged here and I am sure ther are lots of pissed off rich texans on race day

Is it still across from HEB in town green park?
The bike racks are set up in town green park. TAKE A  DEEP BREATH

The updated map shows that the new box section added this year around Mile 75 (right turn onto Mount Mariah & back to 1486 via Mock Lane) has been eliminated. Now we just continue straight on 1486. No worries.....last year the course was very well marked and wardens were at every turn. You would have had to been asleep to miss a turn.

The bridges were a little dangerous, but the more dangerous part is at the bottom of a hill on Taliferio road.  There is one downhill section where right at the bottom of the hill there is a big gravel patch.  It's a short road, so you will know it when you see it.  I'm pretty sure it's going to eat someone's lunch (although I hope it doesn't)

True, at this part of taliaferro you have to be careful.

What i dont fully understand is the change directly after t1 and before t2. Seems that there is some "round driving" instead of going directly via grogans mill rd to wl pkwy.

Luckily the swim course didnt change

I arrived in from Cincinnati this evening.  I am checked in the hotel and my bike is put back together.  It is making a bit of a noise that I can't figure out. I will take it to the expo tomorrow morning when I check in.  Pre-race jitters!

I went up this morning and got checked in and then drove the entire bike course with a few friends. We rode the Taliaferro road part out and then back plus a little more. The gravel at the bottom of that hill is a little dangerous but we did not have any accidents. There are a few monstrous pot holes on the far right side of this road as well so please, watch out!

I'm perplexed by the water temp! If it stays 76, I HAVE to find a wetsuit. Hmm.

This just got REAL!

There's a polling location next to transition. Election law has some requirements on access.

TJ,

What's the scuttlebutt on the delay in registrations for 2013?  Are they looking to change the date away from May?

There's an election for County Commissioner next week (aka those who approve road closures). While both Kenny Speight and James Noack have voiced support for Ironman, there's naturally going to need to be discussions anytime there's a changing of the guard.

an email to either relaying Ironman's positive impact on your life (and how much $$ you spend) might help show what a great thing this race is.

I didn't get a swim cap either.  Didn't realize it til later.

RE the run course I am confident there will be plenty of people in front of me to follow

What time should we meet for the swim?  8am?  I rode most of the run course today I think.  Nice shady trail................if I did it right.  Holy McMansions batman there are some HUGE houses here.  Like 10,000-15,000 square foot monstrosities.

Also it is one mile from transition to the swim start.  Clocked it on my bike

I will be at the swim by 9:00 AM. Yes, I have seen the area and parts of the swim, run and all of the bike course. With regards to the swim and run, I have NO CLUE how they got those people in the rich part of town to agree to hosting this race.

The Woodlands is a VERY healthy community.  always lots of cyclists and runners out and about. maybe that had something to do with it.  rich people like sports too!

Question about timing chip straps. At registration I tried to tell the guy that I did not need a strap for my chip since I'm planning on using my Road ID strap but he kept telling me they were told to give them to everyone. Does anyone know, are the straps expected to be returned too or are they are freebie? Strap feels new so I'm hoping they are a gift that does not need to be used but just wanted to check!

BTW, the forecasted wind for D Day jumped from 7mph to 11 mph over night. Hmm.

My bike is damaged.  Thanks Southwest airline and TSA.  It is with tech support now.  Hoping the can fix it enough for the race.  My bike guy in Cincy contacted Trek and they are overnighting the part to me at the hotel.  Hope it arrives before the 3PM check in deadline.  UGH!!!

I don't think this community needs the money

Amy,
Did you ask if you can check your bike in later given the circumstances? It never hurts to ask!!
When things like this happen before a race it is normally a good sign. You're going to have a great race. All of the bad stuff that can happen is now over with.

Good luck to all of the IMTX peeps! Great course! Have a great race!!!

the only thing that i heard that i didnt understand is if you get a penalty you have to stop at the next penalty box or its a DQ.Is this the norm? From the crowd reaction it didnt seem so
