. Last year I believe they told athletes not to stand up because of debris on the bottom of the channel, such as cans and possibly glass. As for the delay I've heard that at two other IMs and they are only telling us how it would go down if there was a problem.

TriPatrick - 2012-05-17 9:26 PMI left after the swim director spoke. Anything mentioned that I should know about? Amy kona awaits you, get your bike fixed!
the only thing that i heard that i didnt understand is if you get a penalty you have to stop at the next penalty box or its a DQ.Is this the norm? From the crowd reaction it didnt seem so

I worked in the penalty tent once.  If you get a penalty there are 2 kinds one is a 2 minute and one is a 4 minute I think.  One is yellow (which I think is the 2 minutre one) and I don't remember the other color. If you have a 2 minute one you stop in teh tent they mark your bib and you sign a form and get let go so its really not 2 minutes.  If you get the 4 minute they will hand you a stop watch when you pull in mark your bib have you sign a form and when the stop watch hits 4 minutes you may leave the tent.  the thent is a big YELLOW thing that says PENATLY TENT on it.  Hard to miss.  If you get a penalty don't be nasty to the people in the tent.  They did not give you the penalty are most likely volunteers and are just the enforcers.

Screw that noise! Drove around for 30 min looking for a parking spot. They were policing everywhere. The ramp I finally found was probably almost 2 mi from the swim start. Hope others had better luck than me. Guess i will splash around in the hotel pool.

2 quick questions:

1. are special needs in the same general area as last year?

2. does anyone know where the penalty tents are?

I hope a crap load of people stood in line in the sun and heat to meet Chrissie Wellington today.  With over 400 in my age group I'm gonna need around 395 dudes to cramp up real bad.

If you're reading this and racing tomorrow please rest up and have a great race tomorrow.

If you're reading this and spectating tomorrow please hydrate and wear your sunscreen.

If you're reading this and aren't going to be doing either, have a great weekend.

As you can tell, my dvd player crapped out on me and I'm bored.  Going to sleep in 7 hours.

No Idea.  pain in the rear. I had a woman who questioned why my number wasn't on my bike, even though it was right on the seatpost.  Had to physically point it out to her.

I didn't have to wait in line to meet her, I met her at my hotel. She was working out in the gym alone. Pretty surreal.

Sweet, I was in the merchandise tent getting some crap when she came in to start signing. They must have sold a few hundred books in a few minutes time. Then they were out. Hopefully they had more. Not like WTC to lose out on an opportunity to cash in on something.

I was  a bit confused cause they had signs that said show us your IM tattoo. So I just started walking through when a volenteered stopped me and said we have to take a pic.

I too went to packet pickup early Wednesday and didn't get my cap.  I went back the next day and I was told that they would have them at the swim start.

I've got no swim cap either. I might have a can of lime green spray paint in the garage though. If I can find it, I'll throw it in the bag and bring it along. Worst case scenario, I'll stand in front of the body markers and paint people heads, then the markers can do their thing. Now that I think of it, this might only work for us bald guys!
