Melon Presser 52116 | Subject: RE: Mad Manatees Mentor Group - VERY CLOSED!!! Sorry! jogo - 2013-01-13 3:04 AM Longest run since the end of May. I was supposed to go 8, but made it 6. Not bad as that is probably the most I've run in 1 week since May and I did it all at one outing. I was running with a "slow" runner who posted up that she was just starting out. She failed to say that she was just starting out on her next marathon plan and that she has done 22 marathons on 5/7 continents so far and run Boston. So much for keeping it slow. I could slow her down to my sprint pace. I was toasted after 4.25 miles. She took off to do more mileage and I crawled back to my car (6 mile loop so it was a long crawl). Also, WTF is up with 50+ degree weather in Michigan? I was way over dressed with long pants. I rolled them up to capris but my legs were on fire. Women out in shorts and sports bras. I was thinking of stripping myself. YES!!!!! Wait, what was that about a run? Way to go getting it done ... 6 is fine. |

Master 2770 Central Kansas | Subject: RE: Mad Manatees Mentor Group - VERY CLOSED!!! Sorry! Nice to see you up and around, Yanti! I have a swim question for you -- I am trying to work short kicking drills into my warm up. I thought Sheila talked about kicking in her book, but I can't find it now. Can you (or other fish) help me out? Thanks! |

Master 2770 Central Kansas | Subject: RE: Mad Manatees Mentor Group - VERY CLOSED!!! Sorry! TriAya - 2013-01-13 10:28 AM Currently, if I just kick, I don't move forward. Well, very slowly, like 5 minutes for 50 meters, and that's not an exaggeration. I get that kicking isn't for propulsion, but I feel that my poor kick is slowing me down, based on my performance on the kicking drill.KansasMom - 2013-01-14 12:17 AM Nice to see you up and around, Yanti! Working that visualization as a "drill" may help. I would also barrel right over to swimsmooth.com and check out their Beginner section, the kicking part. |

Master 6834 Englewood, Florida | Subject: RE: Mad Manatees Mentor Group - VERY CLOSED!!! Sorry! rrrunner - 2013-01-12 7:51 PM I liked that coverage and I like how Rev3 supports organizations like that. I hope to do one of their races one day. IF I do long course, it will be theirs. They do the family finish thing, are supportive of the locale they are in and if you saw anything on the finish at Cedar Point in 2012, well, you know they are a little different. I've seen an interview of the CEO and it is obvious that he has a family first outlook. |

Oh my goodness. That IS you in your profile pic!
Yes, that' s me a few years ago. This is me as of 6 months ago...... Which is me rather drunk at a wedding, with my beer belly hanging over my jeans. This photo, taken by someone else, was the wake up call for me to do something about the weight I had gained blindly over the last ten years. I put the pic of me in the Army up as my inspiration to keep on training to one day get back to that weight. 28 lb lost, 21 lb to go. Seriously inspiring. Congrats on making a lifestlye change. I can relate. I have a love / hate relationship with old pictures of myself. Here's one that everytime I see it I say "I can't believe I let myself get that big". I didn't realize I was that big. My change didn't come because of that though...originally, part of my motivation was to get in great shape and show my ex (who had just left me) what she was missing! I LOL @ that mentality now. Then my motivation became to get in great shape because I knew that girls weren't crazy about middle aged, overweight guys... LOL I finally arrived at "I want to be in great shape for ME"... I love being an Athlete now, and I love saying that I am a triathlete. |

Veteran 416 Cleveland, Tennessee | Subject: RE: Mad Manatees Mentor Group - VERY CLOSED!!! Sorry! Since a couple people have posted some before/after pics I will throw a couple in. This is what I looked like in Spring of 09. I was 250lbs, wore size 38 jeans and was beyond out of shape. This was around September 09. i had dropped down to 185lbs, size 32 jeans where loose. This is also my three kiddos.
This is me coming out of the swim in my first tri this past summer. I was about 200lbs here. I would love to get back down to 185lbs or a little lower. Edited by jbwills 2013-01-13 5:17 PM |

Veteran 2441 Western Australia | Subject: RE: Mad Manatees Mentor Group - VERY CLOSED!!! Sorry! THANKS YANTI AND CHAD for all that great swim advice about 100 pages back. I got in the pool this morning for the first time in about a month. Decided that I would take it easy and do 10x100s on 2:30. I concentrated on my catch and pull trying to keep my entry wide, my elbow high and arm perpendicular to the bottom (like in Yanti's photo). I must say it took some major concentration as I was trying to over ride 20 years of muscle memory. But it felt good and even though I slowed right down I was still getting a good 30 seconds rest between each 100. I did notice as soon as I stopped concentrating I went straight back to my old form. Going to take some time to imbed I think and then I will work on ridding the s pull from my stroke too. have a great day everyone. I might even make it to work on time today. |

Veteran 2441 Western Australia | Subject: RE: Mad Manatees Mentor Group - VERY CLOSED!!! Sorry! So Iknow that the Manatees moto is just do eeeeetttt! Im just not sure if that is wise in this situation so wondering what you all think. Currently my long rides are at maximum 60-70 minutes and I am managing 25km during this time. Some work mates have invited me to join them for a ride on Sunday. The ride will be at least 75km long and the slow members of the group average about 20-25km per hour. What do you think? I'm not sure that can manage this sort of distance or a 3 hour ride. I'm also a bit worried about how it will affect my training for the rest of the week. Should just say thanks, but no thanks, or should I suck it up and do it? |

Master 6595 Rio Rancho, NM | Subject: RE: Mad Manatees Mentor Group - VERY CLOSED!!! Sorry! Stacey that sound to me like quite a leap from your normal training. After an hour or so you may find yourself tiring and still have two hours to go. Not to mention the fact that if you start to slow down you may get dropped and it could be a long lonely ride back. |

Im just not sure if that is wise in this situation so wondering what you all think. I think this is too big of a jump. You'd basically be tripling your distance while trying to keep your same pace. If you were going to go at a slower pace, then I could see it, but trying to match your pace doesn't sound smart. I don't think you'd be very happy.Currently my long rides are at maximum 60-70 minutes and I am managing 25km during this time. Some work mates have invited me to join them for a ride on Sunday. The other thing to consider is that whatever speed you go on a trainer is the speed you go on a trainer. This is probably not the speed that you will go outside. From a speed standpoint, I think that you will be more than fine with the 20-25kpm group. Do they have any other routes that they do regularly? |
