Proof of life post.  Been reading all posts.  Got outside on the bike for the first time this year today.  Super cold to start, but sunny and warm by the end.  Nice brick run afterwards and even saw the Bunny dart off the path into the woods. He musta been done all his deliveries already .  The yard and garden are calling to me for the rest of the day.  Hope everyone has a fantastic Easter.

Good to hear from you! Was happy to see you pop up on Strava. Happy gardening!

Might have been a little breezy on a nice Saturday ride when the mountain bike is bumping 30mph in places at a low aerobic effort.

Only time I've seen 30 on my MTB is after going over a small cliff.

Windy, indeed!

Speaking of MTBs...I am really thinking about getting one.

I am so on the fence between trying to find some sort of a cyclocross bike and getting rid of my roadie OR getting a hard tail. I was thinking if I get a hard tail, J could ride it (since it's much more comfortable than a roadie) if we did short rides together.

I can get 40% of diamonback bikes and they have some reasonable priced hardtails...

(or is it already Tuesday for our Aussie pals?  I'm so bad with time zones that are that far away)  I had the first semi-normal weekend, as in not jam-packed with obligations and/or travel, in a while and it felt pretty dang nice!  Both days were VERY windy (23 mph Sat, 20-25 mph with higher gusts Sun) for my workouts, which was less-than-preferred, especially on the bike, but hey, it builds character, right?  At least that's what I kept telling myself, amongst the fearful thoughts of actually having to do a big race in such conditions.

Glad to hear some of the DLers are improving and making that list shorter!

Requesting prayers, good thoughts, good vibes, whatever your preference or belief for Dad this week.  On Wed. afternoon we will get the results of his latest PET scan.  I'm a bit stressed already worrying about what the doctor will tell us.

Sending all the above to you and your Dad.

Hang in there. Try not to stress about anything until there is something to stress about. I know it's easier said than done but worrying never helped anything. Try to fill the time with something productive.

Ugh I am sorry though, that is a hard spot. Positive vibes for you guys.

I'm glad that all of the folks in the eastern half of the US survived the wind this weekend.

Nancy, so glad that you are feeling better!

Melanie, good thoughts for your dad.

Salty, a mtb certainly seems to be more in keeping with your current interests.

TJ, great training!  His move to Charleston must be coming up soon as well!

I'm having trouble keeping up with y'all.  I must be working too much.

Yanti and Melanie, ((((hugs)))).  Tough times for both of you.  I'm sending lots of positive thoughts your way.

Nancy, glad your back is feeling better.  A good chiro can make all the difference in the world!

Stacey, good job keeping up with that many ankle-biters.  What a task.  Makes taking care of puppies seem like a breeze, doesn't it?!  It's cruel that they do that to you right after you finish with the auditors.  Your comment that everybody was "smashed" made me giggle a bit.  When I think of smashed, I think of drunk.  42 drunk 5- and 6 year-olds would be quite the ordeal!

You mountain biking people scare me.  I think about taking it up every now and then, but reading about cliffs (Matt TX), tooth destruction (Erin last year), and other such excitement is just a bit more than this rickety body could take I think.  I think I'll stick to running single-track and leaving the biking to roads and gravel, thanks.

Matt TX, what happened to your kiddo?  Nothing major I hope...

Michael and Stacey, I wish drunk/high people wouldn't drive, much less run into cyclists.  Any accidental deaths are tragic, and those that could have so easily been prevented are SO much worse!!

TJ, I can't believe DS2 is already graduating!  I'm sure it's seemed like forever for you, though.  How exciting!!  He's off to the East Coast next, right?  Maybe Monica can give you some tips on where to get those runs in.

And yeah, Erin, I'm not *completely* sorry I was AWOL there for awhile.  I did miss everybody though and I'm glad to be back.  Things are pretty hectic right now so much as I'd like to, I might not be checking in as much.  Hopefully it'll settle down soon!

Man, I was just thinking that if I spend the summer doing trail running then transition into fall for XC, I won't even have run a marathon this calendar year!

That made me sad and I send in a time verification to qualify for Chicago...but I don't think I am going to run it, I just panicked lol!

I guess maybe I should plan to run something next spring. I really want to run one, it just doesn't fit in very well and I would hate to multi-task my way through cross country season again.  I should, however, probably start thinking about what I want to do next spring in case I would like to run one of the more difficult to get into events. Anyone have any recommendations?

Yes, DS2 will be Charleston bound on Saturday, after I've wrung every possible minute out of my time with him. As for my run, it's looking more like it will be in Milwaukee. Same lake, further north.

So many races, so few weekends!

It seems like you have really really enjoyed the cross country and you *do* have the whole Pacific Crest thing going this year as well!

Have you considered Houston?  How does that date work with XC?

I've been thinking about a CX bike, too.  When we move to the new house, I'll be able to access many miles of greenbelt trails and also be about a 10 -12 mile urban commute to work.  Was thinking a CX bike would be a good mount for both.  So, I'm not much help in the MTB vs. CX decision - sorry!

I have a VERY old MTB that is beat up but OK if it's not too technical a ride, but it would be a chore getting to work and back on it, and I have a bunch of friends who seem to think CCX is the shiznit.  Might give that a go one of these falls...

Hmmm... To CX or not?

Matt

DH has a CX bike and he loves it.  He was lucky enough to get it from a pro who was changing teams and needed to get a new one, so it has awesome components.  He pretty much rides it for everything.  Granted, he's not racing at all right now, but it makes a commuter bike as well as being good for gravel.  He's considering doing some gravel races, but doesn't seem to interested in CX racing. And of course he's thinking about getting a road bike because he doesn't have one and, you know, N+1.

I think I'm going to try out his old one so I can do some gravel riding too.  I used to ride his 100 lb. MTB so we could do some easy single-track and gravel but I'd much rather have something lighter if I'm going to do that!

Find a mentor. Make a list of at least three people that you could approach for help, list your specific needs and then be courageous enough to begin asking.
