Good luck, Arend and Matt!  Enjoy your races.  And as Matt says, RR or it didn't happen!

Matt -- what's your bib number so we can stalk you during your race?

Bib # is 601 (hopefully not also my finishing time, but we'll see!).

Updated all my firmware (sounds almost naughty) and am packing up my gear, and I am, if you'll excuse the Boston idiom, WICKED excited!  Laughing

I had a blast in the TT + Road Race today.

TT was straight into a decent headwind.  9.6km - 16:35 / 33.7 km/hr - 297w.  I don't know what position that was exactly but there was one guy I was hoping to beat or be very close to and he beat me by almost a minute - bummer.  More on that in a bit...

RR was interesting.  Everyone started together, elite, sport and beginner, men and women (only about 25 still...).  On the first lap (6 x 10km) the elites blew the field apart on hill that's about 700m long and had a stiff crosswind.  I spent most of the race in a group of 3 or 4 and only 2 of us later on.  One of the guys was the guy above that had beaten me in the TT and towards the end of lap 5 I got a bit of a gap on him on a hill and decided to go for broke and try to make up the deficit from the morning TT.  I solo'd the last lap and managed to beat him overall by 15 seconds for 5th place - 7 seconds out of 4th.

It was a ton of fun and completely shattered me.  Laughing  Will do a full RR tomorrow.

AP 238w, NP 253w, 1:45:50 / 34.2 km/hr (faster than the TT - LOL)

My wife won the beginner division, beat the other women by 2+ mins in the TT and rode the RR on her own.  Had she entered the sport division and done the longer distance she would likely have won that easily too.

Hi everyone. Been a long time since I posted anything, but haven't really been doing that much. Getting hit by the car back in February kind of took the wind out of my sail. Just couldn't seem to get it going. However, kept training just to get back in shape. The arm is doing much better and almost looks like a normal arm. Very lucky not to have had it torn off my body. But anyway, this week I will be doing my first tri of the summer. It's a local one, for a good cause and right in my backyard. Done it the past two years and enjoy it very much. The folks who put it on have clinics for new people on Saturdays throughout the summer so I get to help them out.

I did the practice yesterday and on my swim I kept going off course. The right arm is much stronger than the left so I kept veering off. If I do a half mile circle is that legal? Then in Sept. I'll be attempting another one. The doctors I had kept telling me to use these as goals to get better and not worry what happens. So that's what I'll do. If I can finish even last I accomplished a great task. Some things have been positive. My weight is gone I gained from being laid up for four months, ran a stage in the cross country run 'One Run for Boston", signed up for the Brooklyn Marathon in New York in November, and I rounded up an old crew and we are going to back to MT. Washington to race it again next year. So slowly getting back on the horse again.

I hope all of you have had a great season so far and are able to get in a few more races. It will be good to actually get back into reading about everyone and all the accomplishments you have achieved instead of just doing my log. Hopefully next year I'll get to put into practice some of the advice some of you have given this past winter. This year didn't exactly go as planned. But I must say hanging out by the pool everyday for a few months wasn't bad. So on that note, hope everybody is healthy and hope to be chatting with you again soon

Sounds like a fun time.  Really surprised that your AP and NP were so close for the RR though.  But I suppose if the elites broke the race up on the first lap there may not have been very much opportunity to sit in with a free ride.

Nope, not much in the way of free rides.  First lap was 238/278 but then after that every lap was within 10-12w for AP/NP.

Thanks all for the congrats and for the help in getting ready for this one!  Yesterday was a terrific day, just great.  RR is here (and it's not a short one - no surprise there, coming from me):  http://www.beginnertriathlete.com/discussion/forums/thread-view.asp?tid=498435&posts=1#M4833297

A special shout out to Marc for his help in dialing in HR targets - super helpful, as I think I would have gone way too hard if left to my own devices.

Arend, congrats to you and Tab on a great day of racing.  If we had more events like that 'round here, I'd be doing more bike specific events - sounds like a great time and that you executed what you wanted to (shattered is an awesome feeling)!  As for racing with you in a HIM, that'd be great - name a venue!   I love a good footrace at the end.  Tongue out

I think my brain must still be stewing in endorphins, as I'm just super happy and grateful for this one.  Already thinking about the next one (what a sickness).

Matt

If you develop a strategy for the off-season, you can go into the next season stronger than you ended the past season.
