So I ran intervals with Coach Marty today. We warmed up for 20 minutes and then did 6 x 2 with 2 minutes jogging between intervals. He said we held a pretty even pace over the six intervals. As expected the last was hard. He said I did well. It was a challange. He had good advice about raising my knees, how to lean into the hills, and to concentrate on form and being smooth over being fast.

Happy New Year!

Doug

jrj0924 - 2009-12-31 3:47 PM I am such a geek, I got let out of work super early today and I am sure everyone else was planning to get their drink on early but what was I excited about?  Getting to the gym and having the pool all to myself!  It was glorious!  I did 1650m continuously to use it as a baseline since I want to get under 35 minutes, did it in 40 min 40 sec so I have my work cut out!  Feeling much less guilty about all of the treats and bubbly tonight!  Everyone have fun and be safe tonight!

Not a geek at all.  I had the same plan in mind, got to the gym and the pool has been closed for an unspecified amount of time!!

One of my resolutions is to not stress about things as much in 2010.  This was the start I said what the heck, I will have to improvise.  I decided to go home and get in a longer run....

I plan on geeking it up tonight since my wife is not feeling well and we are going to be staying home.  This gives me time to post a new blog with some interesting pictures.  Lets just say it was chillly at best.

Happy New Years all! Be safe.

That's awesome!! Great work!

Hubby and I just came in from dinner after a movie. Cocktails, a bottle of wine, and specialty coffees means that I am feeling pretty good while catching up on posts as the Canada/US Jr. Hockey game finishes up. I think we're going to enjoy our New Year See you all in 2010!!

Happy new years everyone!

Lotsa football today.

Hokies won last night so I guess they are out of my dog house now...

Anyone have anything exciting planned for today?  Both Sam and I have the day off from workouts.

My Desoto wetsuit came yesterday.  The thing looks brand new.  I'll put it on and post a picture today for the ladies Wink

First day of the new year started like this:

I made it to the gym today with a plan of doing 1500yds total.  Unfortunately, being a holiday, I got kicked out again. GRRR Frown .  I only had 150yds of cooldown left when they shut the lights off on me.  When I called they told me they were open till noon, but I didn't realize that meant the pool closed at 1130...Oh well, got the important stuff in.

WU (500):
100Free
50 Kick
100 Free
50 Kick
100 Free
100 Pull

Main Set:

1x500 Free (9:27)

CD (350)
50 Kick
100 Pull
50 Kick
150 Mixed Free/Breast

I changed my warmup to prevent me from getting started too fast.  Then I really slowed down so I could make 500 straight.  I counted strokes a couple times throughout the 500 and was between 15-17 strokes/25yds.  Overall not a bad swim.

I have a trainer ride later in the afternoon/evening to cap of the day!

How are you all breaking in the new year?

Happy 2010!

In answer to your question Trevor, I did start the New Year with a workout this morning. The plan said to run 55 minutes which would be the longest I ever ran. I was also supposed to swim 600m today.

So, I got up at 7 this morning with a sore hamstring and dreading try to run with it today. I took extra time stretching and also did a set of core work. Then hit the treadmill. The gym was deserted, but it felt good to get started on the New Year with a workout. I did the 55 minutes, then did the 600m swim too. I took it easy on the swim and decided to focus on strokes and not pace/speed. Overall, a great workout and pushed my longest time distance ever ran to 4.5 miles.

A nice start to 2010 where I hope I will be running much longer distances faster before the end of this year.

I swam with a Masters group this AM. My coach runs it. I have not been in the water in 2 months. The group swam 4100 yds. total, I did 2200. Marty examined my stroke and said it was pretty good. I am uneven due to how I breath. He said it will even out as I swim more. I did the catch drill and the punch drill plus some kicking with a board. The planks from the core work help, but my shoulders are tired.

Glad to start the new year with some swimming.

According to Marty, yesterdays intervals were at 7 minute mile pace. So progress is happening.

HAPPY NEW YEAR EVERYONE!

Raced the Atlanta Track Clubs Resolution 5k.  Nice rolling course with a TON of people and the weather could not have been better.  Low 40's, sun out bright and not too much wind.

26:40...Wooo Hoooo.  I am very pleased with that time and didn't seem to have any effects of the vertigo from earlier in the week.  This was a race I wanted to push a little bit and see where my legs are and I am very pleased.  Still have a long way to go till March 21 and didn't want to crash today since I have a 10 miler on Sunday but the effort today made me smile.....and that is a good thing.

Off to cook some hoppin-john and some cornbread...it's a southern "thang"...yummmm.

speaking of hockey. wasn't that a great WJHC game last night. I haven' t seen one that good since last New Years Eve. Of course the correct and best team did  win.

My workout today consisted of taking down all the Christmas decorations putting them away and cleaning up after. I'll be heading out to the gym tomorrow afternoon to get 2010 underway properly. I'll probably just do some abs and stretching today.
