I've never used MyAthlete, but heard good things from others about it. That's why we decided to go with MyAthlete. My wife just ordered it earlier this week.

What tracking company do you all suggest?  MyAthlete?  Thanks!

That's the one I ordered a few weeks ago. Ask me again in two weeks and two days

Wearing 2XU tri top and skinfit tri-shorts under my wetsuit and putting on tri-glide spray( made by the gods and brought to us by angels of ani-chaffing and blisters) and spray it every where you think you might and going to chaffe. I am only putting on Sun block and arm warmers in T1 and the normal , helmet, race belt, sunglasses, shoes and off I go.

There is a BTer who has a business that he makes something like a spreadsheet that gets updated automatically when folks go over timing mats and that information is uploaded to ironmanlive.com.

I hope he does it for us as well. He does it for free but if you like what he does after the race you can make a contribution for work that he has done.

Do you think we will have any/many competitors from the Cape Town Challenge? If so, do you think it will be enough to make a noticable difference in congestion on the course?

I am still undecided where to start the swim so I did the math and this is what I came up with. If the 1st turn buoy is 1/2 mile out then these numbers will work. Using the c= sqrt of (a*a)+(b*b). I was suprised! If I started 300yds from the buoy line then I will only be swimming 50yds more than if I started right on the line, and.....if the current is going from right to left then I won't have to fight it as much. Then by the 2nd lap I could probably swim closer to the line. Again I've never done anything like this before.

A= Buoy line distance (straight line)  B=Starting position (distance from the buoy line) C=Haw far you have to swim to the 1st turn buoy.

The difference of starting on buoy line or not isn't great if you swim straight to turn buoy.

If you start in the mass you will get more draft effect. The difference between my first and second loop was 10 minutes.

I'm going to look and see where the buoys are and then put myself on the opposite side of the starting crowd from them.

Sorry, once you get kicked all that nice neat math goes out the window

Well I was thinking of starting far right ( if the current is right to left) I would swim straight and get sling shot to the left. I might swim an extra 50m but with the currnt and postioning my body pointing to the first turn bouty I would use less energy and go maybe faster . I done this at the B2B race using the current to sling shot me around the channel when I postioned myself well with the current.

I agee with both your math and your logic, I was at the extreme west end of the start line last year, I'm a slow swimmer and it was the end of the first leg before most of the fast swimmers caught me - they had got stuck in the taffic jam at the start.

By the second lap it doesn't matter since eveyone is so spaced out by that time.

BTW, my swim last year was 1:19 - T1 was bedlam by the time I got there - no room to do anything!

I'd like to be 'slow' like you Glen

T1 is much more crowded if you come out in the MOP. FOP or BOP much less crowded.

I had a blast the year I worked women change tent both T1 to T2 from start to finish.

Bah!  I have a massage scheduled for Friday night...I really want to go up to PCB for the volunteer meeting to get my shirt and such (so I don't have to do it in the morning) but I haven't gotten a massage in over a month (scheduling issues with my LMT).  I guess I can call and try to reschedule but I've cancelled so many it's frustrating now!

    *sigh*

Part of me thinks it isn't worthwhile to drive all the way over to PCB Friday just to get a shirt.  Maybe I can work a deal with the person in charge of the change tent....

I mean, if y'all were up for partying Friday I would be TOTALLY there...but something tells me there won't be much of a party in PCB on Friday night!  Everyone will be sleeping!

I go see Pain Management on Tuesday.  I hope they can work a miracle with my leg.  Right now I can't stand up for very long which will make volunteering in the change tent very difficult.

i tried my athlete when I did louisville is 09 and my wife could not track me very well. the site crashed and would not load very well. we had blackberries at the time and phones have gotten much better now. I am taking my iPhone with me on the bike and run so my wife can just track my phone. i have a mount on the bike and a clip for the run. I have always trained with it so I figure why not. I know I can not use it during the race, but it is my bike computer and run computer right...nudge nudge wink wink. please ignore the orange garmin on my wrist haha

Do you know what the time slots are for finish line volunteers?  I want to be able to go back to the finish to catch Shaun.

to get my shirt and such (so I don't have to do it in the morning)

As an FYI at IMLP this year, the volunteer meeting was the day before the race but volunteer captains were explicitly instructed not to give shirts out until people actually showed up for their shifts on race because the shirts are now a "commodity" and people were just picking up the shirts and never showing up for the volunteer shifts.

I tried to talk Kathy into going bar hopping for her birthday on Friday night but for some reason she's hesitant to do so! Harumph!

Not sure about the math but that would be great. I am thinking the same thing starting out side the mass of people. I'd rather give up a few minutes and have a clean swim lane.

Hoping to have some math grads on this thread.
