Fred D - 2012-11-03 7:43 AM Lots of great weight revelations and discussion. I thank you for that! Again, whether its 5 or 150 lbs we all can support each other. Also, give ourselves some slack as well. We have an 'ideal' weight many of us wish we were, but honestly many of us (me) have some OCD and need to be mindful of this obsessiveness as something to be careful of as well. I propose we start HERE AND NOW a goal for November for what to do about weight. Here I will go first.... I am currently 166 lbs. my goal for November is to snack less and drink a little less wine. If I can get to just below 164 lbs I will be happy. Yes this is a very, very small goal, but I am going to shoot for it. Anyone else interested in a weight loss (or not weight loss, but diet improvement) challenge? Runs from today until the day before thanksgiving. We can start another one after thanksgiving. Thoughts?

I am in !!

1kg = 2lbs by the end of November for me. I weighed in this am at 79.1kg so 174lbs.

Strategy - 3 less brewskie per week - Breakfast after morning workout. I have been cheating, do breakfast before then grab a snack after.

Hi everyone. I have juice and time so I'm catching up on some internet activity Things are settling in to a routine. I power up (devices and caffeine) at the coffee shop first thing. I don't have power at the house but have a gas fireplace so that helps a lot. The community here has been terrific. Churches are feeding everyone that needs help. The businesses are opening their doors for powering up phones. All in all, it's pretty civilized. I was glad to see the marathon cancelled. Something that many prob don't realize is how isolated most ppl are with respect to news.I have 2 iPhones, an iPad and a wireless Internet card for the computer. Even so, I had no real appreciation for how bad things are in other areas especially Staten Island. In this area, all you heard about was the shore...even though we're much closer to NYC. Internet and cell access has just been unreliable. The town is organizing clean up teams this afternoon, so that will likely be my workout for the day. Shane, a big thank you to your dad for coming down here. the guys working to restore power have an incredibly difficult job. I'll join in on the healthy eating/weight challenge. Well, maybe more diligently once I have power. Im ok as far as the scale goes right now. 5'10 and prob 135. I have been as high as 155 but that was quite a while ago. Now I have about a 5-7 lb range but feel best at 130. The scale isnt really my driver though, its how bad i feel when i eat junk. The challenge I deal with is the 'unreliable off switch.' It's all or nothing. I have never been good at moderation. Spills over into nonfood areas as well. I've found trying to eat clean is my best strategy. I'm going to work on that for the next few weeks.

I'm going to change it up for myself.  Instead of making an actual weight goal, I'm just going to stick with habbit goals.  When I think about weight, I often get discouraged when I don't see numbers on the scale, or even when I do see good numbers, I tend to give myself cheat days if I'm ahead of schedule and thus sabotage the whole process.

So the habbits I'd like to work on for November...

1. Keep the diet soda out.  Been about 2.5 weeks so far
2. Keep meal portions reasonable.  I tend to eat large meals, but at least avoid the really large 1500 calorie meals I can eat sometimes
3. Keep the snacking to a minimum, and when I do snack, make them reasonable choices.  PB&J sandwich (with lots of PB&J) is my crutch.  But...I just ran out of PB last night...so we'll see what I turn to next.

Hey all. Sorry I've been MIA. Still on pneumonia recovery and I ended up with a viral URTI this week. I think I should get a sickness free card for the next year now..I have been getting some short/low intensity workouts in and am starting a more regimented schedule this week. Im in for the Nov challenge. I lost some weight over with being sick and although I've been eating everything in sight--along with Halloween chocolate, I haven't gained it back. It would be nice to get down some more. I've been eating more due to stress lately than anything--(in the middle of residency applications and it's put me more than a little on edge). I'm going to focus on eating cleaner. One of my friends is a holistic nutritionist and she's been giving me some suggestions. I won't put a number on a goal because that will just stress me out more but I'll just say I want to look better in my swimsuits for my trip to Maui over Xmas!

Yes Melissa, you do need a sick free card for next year.  Hopefully this is the last one for a bit you have to deal with

I like the idea of the weight challenge. I know I just need a little more discipline with my diet and I'll be right there.

My goal is to hit and maintain 135 in the first go around. I need to be back down at 130 eventually but it's taken 2 years to slowly gain the weight, my body like to lose slowly. I'm carrying a lot more muscle than I used to so I think under 130 would be unrealistic.

I'm going to try the gluten free thing for a couple of weeks to see if I feel any better

I just finished up a nice 2 hour ride.  We've been lucky that the weather is still holding out to allow some longer rides outdoors on the weekends.  Hoping it keeps up but it's unlikely.  I managed to snag a Strava segment by a single second during the ride.

How is the weekend training going for everyone?

I'm going the opposite way for the weight challenge.  My aim is to add 1-2 lbs by the end of the month.

I wish I had a scale with a BF% calculator.  Even if it is not accurate, I could at least hope for it to be consistent so I had a sense of what type of weight I was gaining.

Beautiful day here too. 59 degrees at the start, 75 by the end of the 80 mile ride. I did most of the ride with a group. Pace was fast and furious as usual but I managed to hang in there

Busy day.

Long run this morning. Then tried to swim. I was toast. So 21km run, 1800m swim for me.

Given that I still recall what 10C feels like yes, I'll get my arse out the door now.  Course it finally hit 70.

Wat will I do in November regarding my weight? Well, simply go back to what I did early this year. Not going to detail it all here, but as others have said, the habit means more than the number. Though with my current status, the habit if kept will yield a pretty impressive number each month.

On another note, I just noticed my first black toenail ever. I only ran a few times since B2B and nothing over 4 miles since. Yt here it is. I feel like a real runner now.

I got my first black toenail in July.  I was sure I was going to lose it - I was so proud!    Then it just grew out normally and as of a few weeks ago it's just normal like the others.  Still not a runner.....

Fred D - 2012-11-03 6:18 PM Two things. Watched my oldest daughter at swim team today. She swam 1:32 for 100 and 1:38 for 100 IM. Won her heats and was likely top 10 overall in the meet, which has some of the best swimmers in the PA, MD, VA area. She is a rising star, very proud! Secondly, was impressed with Starkiwicz? Win at IMFL. 49' swim with a 4:04 bike. Gutsy win from the front of the race. Daughter accomplishments are much more impressive to me though.

49' swim and 4:04 bike is a crazy flyer off the front.  I like his style!  Laughing

Congrats to your daughter, those are some great times!

Does anyone have any races left this season?

Yep.  I've got a half marathon in December, and a couple of tune-up races soon.

Given my blow-up at IMWI, I've got a lot -- probably to much -- invested in this race...

I'm in on the weight loss thing.  To keep myself honest, I'll post weight tomorrow when I return home.  (I'm in the mountains right now, with no way to weigh.)  In fact, I'm also struggling right now with the 5-10 pound goal.  After reading through the past 36 hours of posts, I just stopped eating my dinner...  So thanks for that.  (I needed to stop.)

I wore gloves and a long sleeved shirt with light gloves when I ran this morning.  It started to drizzle near the end of the run...then turned to snow as soon as I was in the house.  Ride tomorrow morning will likely be a chilly one.

Oh boy.  I'm in.  Tipped it up at the highest I've been in about 4 years today.  191lbs...after my run! Won't even get into the details of my intake the past couple weeks because it really doesn't matter...wendy's / McDs / Burritos / pizza...yes having no power for a week makes it too easy with excuses.

I will admittedly drink 2 Magic Hat #9s though starting right now as I tend the fire to the woodstove and watch a movie with my girls.  They are in my fridge and must be dealt with tonight before I put in a good week next week.  I will need to be disciplined during the week and have just been notified that I have parties to go to every weekend from now until Christmas...should make it interesting.

<185lbs by Turkey day. Even though that's 6lbs.  First few should be vaporized quickly because of the bloat from the past week.

That's so funny. After one of my runs a couple months ago, I noticed one of my toe nails was discolored. I was sure I would lose it. I never did, and I'm not sure why not, but I also felt like a real runner.
