Sup TAN. Today is going to be an interesting day. I'm starting my new gig as an operations manager on monday, but today I'm going in for a few hours to meet the staff that I'll be overseeing, which is about 25 people.

Then tomorrow I have a Skype video chat with the people I'll be in charge of at the Boston, LA, Atlanta, and Dallas offices.

This is job is going to be the most challenging job I've ever had.

 And I can't wait.

Man that is stellar. I am sure your up for the challange. I enjoy challanges myself. I am currently working towards getting away from Engineering in General and more into management and working towards an Operations Manager type of career as well.

It's a very rewarding gig! I've done some operations management before, but nothing quite like this. It's in manufacturing, which is where I've found my talent to be in. Plus this is the first job I've had that involves travel, which I'm actually looking forward to.

My experiance is in Manufacturing, Chemical and machining. But all process improvements and Lean applications. My strengths are def more on the technical side then the management side. Which is why I keep trying to improve that side of things and grow more and challange myself more.

I hope you enjoy the travel more then I did. I used to work as a technical service Eng for one company and travel to all our facilities to help with major problems and launching equipment and  I started to hate it after a while. But it was more international travel. If it was all withing US and Canada I would have liked it more.

Cool! Are you reading any books or anything like that to help improve management skills? I've been looking at picking a few up...

The Goal by Goldratt and other books by him have been quite good.  Combination of personal management as well as production/product management.  Written in novel style instead of boring text book style.

Honestly I re-read "The Toyota Way" again last year for lean management stuff

Also One Minute Manager by Ken Blanchard sp? Its not a major novel book but some great tips. Which I did find useful, now that I have a few people reporting to me in cross-funtional teams.

And I am waiting for two books from my buddy. "Leading Change" - John Kotter and "First Break all the rules" by ??? can't recall who it is by.

I accepted your friend request on PS3.  BTW, I was messing around with it around midnight last night and it says you were playing black ops...  Were you up that late???

Also, it's all fine and dandy that you are now one of my friends, but how do I find YOU in Black Ops and such?

Got several of my blue tooth headsets paired up so I can talk trash.  I had 4 laying around and figured I could use them for gaming!

My sister just sent me the following email.  It made me laugh so hard my stomach hurts, so I had to share...  Keep in mind this happened her second day on a new job.

"so yesterday this guy is trying to help me out (b/c i'm bored otu of my mind) so he went to go make a copy of these papers for me to read that were stapled together.  So, he's trying to get the staple out.  So i'm like... oh, here do you need help? do you need a finger? (like meaning a fingerNAIL, b/c guys never have nails)

and he looks at me like SOOOO offended, like WTF is your problem?

so i was like... wow.  wtf is HIS problem.

So we get back over to his computer, and he goes to type something and ALL OF A SUDDEN I notice that his finger is amputated like at the 1st knuckle.  Not super obvious, but VERY CLEARLY a stump finger with NO nail and very clearly NOT completley there.  and i'm like OMGGGGGGGGGGGGGGG he thinks i'm making a stumpy finger joke!!!!!!!!!!!!!

I'm such a LOSER.  "

Bet he gives a hell of a shocker!

Hi TAN! Waiting for dinner with the work folks. Should be good. Be back in the USA late Saturday. Good to leave on a trip and good to get home.

Nope, that was me. Turns out I was misled during the interviews, etc. Long story short, instead of working my way towards being a financial advisor, I was looking at being a phone jockey for the next 6-8 months, selling auto insurance in New Jersey.

About a month ago, a company that I interviewed with back in October came back at me with an offer that was basically my dream job. We did a lot of back and forth because, frankly, I wanted to make sure I knew what I was getting into this time.

We worked it out, and I gave notice and was terminated immediately. So, I got a weeks vacation, which was nice.

Ahhh.... It make sense now.

Congrats on the new roll... I feel it is about time for me to make a move here at work. I've been bustin' my butt with no real end game benefit. A "good job" email from your VP is nice, but with no place to go/move up that food chain... it only goes so far.

Hi TAN!

Both lawyers I'm working with are away for the next 2 days... I could either use this time wisely and get a whole bunch of stuff done that needs to get done before my last day, or I could spend the next 2 days in TAN... what to do?

Well I probably left my PS3 on last night I was charging my headset and probably forgot it on.

You can go into your friends list once your in Black ops and highlight the person and push the select button it will send them a game invite.

or you can click on them and try and Join their session they are already in. If there is an open spot you can get into the game. Sometimes on the wrong team. But then finish out the game and back out of the game and I can pick you up in a new lobby so your on my side. etc.

once you play around with it for a bit you will figure it out. Takes a bit. If this is your first go at any of the COD games.. be prepared to get lit right up to start. Just be patient. Spend some time on Combat Training if you have to. We can log in and do that at first.
